No, the CBP officer won't know anything about it. If you really can't wait, go visit the SS office a day or two after arriving to check it is in the system. Some people have reported success this way, others told to come back after a month if they havent recevied anything....
Okay i will visit the said office then. BTW if I decide to not go to the given address as stated on my Ds 260 (where the green card would be mailed), and decide to go enter usa through a completely different state and decide to live there, then how do i notify the authority that my new address is different to my ds 260 address? I mean I would like both my ssn and gc mailed at the new address. Does this address get updated at the POE? And will the immigration officers find it as an issue that i decided to live somewhere else other than the address mentioned on my ds 260?
-
Thanks. How do i know if my SSN is in the process of getting made? I dont really want to wait for 2 weeks and then finally go to the office as a last resort. Do I talk to the police officers about this at the immigration when i enter USA for the first time? I heard that when one enters USA, it triggers something in the system and the SSN automatically gets made and later sent at the address, given that the above mentioned question on the ds 260 is ticked yes?

Hi,
How is everyone doing? I would like to know when would we be able to receive our ssn after reaching usa? Do i have to go to some office after i reach there to get it? is it a physical card? Or do i just receive it on my email? In my ds 260 form there was a question that asked something like "do you want social security administrator to issue a social security number and a card? I ticked on yes there. so does this mean i will get it on my mail and not have to go to the office to apply? Thanks

doh... i just realized that and have been scheduled an interview for late feb.
thanks

This is the website which you need to check
https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC/(S(uol2eywywxm0il2pfkfmtb3w))/Secure/StatusCheck.aspx
It's the one where you got your first winning notification.
Most likely your interview has been scheduled and the details of your interview are available once you click the above link and enter your confirmation number (the one you got when you entered the lottery), last name, and year of birth.
hi,
i went to the link and entered my info but it says invalid confirmation number. please enter the 16 digit confirmation number. my case number is 2015as000033xx so it only has 14 digits. is there something im doing wrong?

Hi all,
I got an email today from state.gov saying that i have updates available at esc page and that i would need to log in to my original application to complete further processing. So i logged in to the website and my status says "completed" since i had completed it long time back and have reopened it and updated my info once already. anyways, the summary information says "Before we can process your Diversity Visa application, each applicant in your case must complete Form DS-260, the online immigrant visa application form. To access the online form, click on the link to the right of an applicant's name below, under the "IV Application" heading. If a person in your family is not listed below, please contact the consular post or embassy where your interview is scheduled. If you do not have their contact information immediately available, you may look up their contact information on their website. A list of U.S. Embassy/Consulate websites is available through the U.S. Department of State.
So i clicked on the "complete" tab and clicked on "sign" tab and it says "
Thank YouYour Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application form (Form DS-260) has been automatically forwarded to your interview location.
im from Nepal. so it means my case has been forwarded to the us embassy in kathmandu? i was so excited because i thought this was my second letter. it has no dates. So what do i have to do now? thanks in advance. my case number is 33xx and it bacame current recently.

I'm sorry I'm getting back to you so late. I've been away for a few weeks and didn't check the forum.
Basically, what I told KCC on my e-mail was that when I first applied I was living in Portugal and I read on the Portuguese Embassy website that all interviews were held in Paris. However, when I submitted the form I was already living in the UK (as they can check because I used my UK address) and I didn't know I could have my interview in London. So I politely asked if it was possible to change my interview location due to all these reasons and since I'm currently living in the UK. I told the truth and asked as politely as possible.
They got back to me a few days later saying that they changed the interview location but it wasn't necessary to unlock the form. When I get my second e-mail with the interview date it should say that it will be held in London and, if it doesn't, I can contact them again.
I hope this helps. Cheers!
Hey,
Im in a similar kind of position. when i first entered the dv lottery, i was in sweden and the confirmation page said i would be interviewed in stockholms, sweden. but while filling up the ds 260 form, i clicked the option to be interviewed in kathmandu, nepal because thats where i live now. so do you think i should still send them an email and confirm my interview location? i already unlocked my ds 260 once to update my passport info since i have a new passport now and i dont want to bother them too much. thanks
-
Yes that will be fine, many people do that.
Excellent, thanks
-
hey, the ds 260 has a section that asks to enter an address where they would send the green card by mail. so my question is if we would have to be at the location personally to receive and sign or something. i may not stay at the address given very long. so could i just ask my friend to mail the green card to the new location afterwards? thanks in advance.
-
Thanks for your answers. Our sponsor called my father and told him he had mailed the new form and from what I heard he had written this: I will provide anything necessary for at least two years until they find jobs. This seems like it will pass, but I would appreciate your opinion. I can't believe we're getting a refusal from this type of problem. At least luck is on our side that this is just the beginning of the fiscal year.
Yeah, at least they didn't flat out refuse your visa. I mean they put your application on pending yeah?

hey, my case number is as 33XX awaiting the 2nl for dv2015. i was wondering if i would be eligible to apply for dv2016 also. or would it cause problems in the future?
-
hey, no its not the interview location. the interview location is fine in the form. its just the current address i am living in and the passport numbers and validity date that nee to be updated, which are pretty important too right? already have the police report for nepal. just need to get the report from sweden even though i only stayed there for 11 months just to be safe
When you say new location - will that change where you have your interview? If not I wouldn't bother with unlocking and updating the DS form. If it is, send them an email (with name, d.o.b. and case #) and try ensure they know you need to change interview location. Hard to know exactly but It looks like either Dec or Jan for your interview. You may want to double check all your paper work is in order and start on the police certificate if you don't have that yet.

whoa! it says 2950 for asia so mine is 33xx. should i expect anything next time around maybe? i have to update my ds 260 form with regards to my new passport number and new current location but i dont hear anything from the kcc guys. they just told me it would be unlocked for update in the same order the forms have been processed. what shall i do? im worried that my interview date will be pushed back
-
hey, does anybody know when the nexy visa bulletin (october) comes out? werent these suppose to come out 8th of every month? impatiently waiting
-
help, i emailed kcc about updating my passport information and current location and they said they would unlock it in a few weeks but now it shows AS 2500 cut off number for asia and mine is 33xx. idk when theyre gonna unlock mine and im worried that when they do unlock mine and i resubmit, then my interview is going to get pushed back coz they wont have enough time to process my form. what should i do?
-
hey everyone,
i sent KCC an email telling them if i would have to update my ds 260 form since i moved from sweden to nepal recently. so i asked them if i would have to change this in the form or i could do it at the embassy during interiview. i also asked them if i would have to update my passport info (i have a new machine readable passport now with new passport number and a new validity period). A week later i received an email saying thanks for your query, it might take some time to unlock your ds 260 form as we have to go serially and we will send you an email... blah blah blah... they didnt really answer my questions. idk what i should do. any ideas guys?
-
They want to see proof that you won't be a public charge, which is why they may ask for bank statements, assets details etc during the visa interview, They won't force you to do anything with them, if that is what you are worried about... Although do be aware that, as a LPR, if you receive income on the property you will have to declare that as part of your income to the IRS, and bank/stock accounts in excess of $10k held outside the US need to be declared annually.
As Harpah says you can choose to remain an LPR permanently, though personally I would not be comfortable with that.
understood. so if i receive dividends, real estate rental amount, etc income from other sources in Nepal, then as an LPR, will i have to pay any form of tax to the US government? I will be paying taxes to the Nepalese government thats for sure. Furthermore, if i do sell my properties in Nepal, and bring the money to the USA, what percent of the money goes to the US govt? thanks
-
This must be a Nepalese law. The USA doesn't care.
In most/many countries:
- A) You can be a dual-citizen
- B) Foreigners can own land
Out of interest, how will Nepal know if you become a US citizen?
in most cases they wont know but i suppose when i get an american passport it triggers something in the system.
-
Well, that will depend on your country laws then, not the US. The US doesn't mind where its citizens own property, and a fair number of naturalised citizens still have property in their countries of origin. It also sounds like you will have to give up Nepali citizenship to take US citizenship from what you say (that you will not be a citizen anymore)? Many countries allow dual citizenship.
Personally I would rather sell my properties as soon as I moved to use the money to make a new life in the US...
yeah, thats the thing, they dont allow dual citizenships here, not yet. And i cant sell my house yet coz my parents live there. hmm.... i may need a lawyer. btw in dv process, at any point will i need to show my properties/assets/bank statements for reasons other than proving that i wont be a public charge? Will showing or not showing these assets cause any issues later on when im in us? Im asking this because i hear the us govt is recently asking for all documents such as bank statements, property valuations from immigrants from other countries.
-
Why would you have to sell your overseas property?
Hmm.. on what basis will i hold my property in my country if im not its citizen anymore? Thats how it works here anyways
-
Hey, so from my understanding, after someone wins a dv and gets a green card, it will take them 5 years to get a us citizenship right? So what do i do with my real estate properties if i have any. Can i keep them for the first five years and then after i get my citizenship, i have to sell them yeah? I dont want to sell what i have over here... idk what i should do.
-
i still dont see where it says it is mandatory to present and Affidavit of Support but i hear it helps to have one.
-
Yes you can mail them to check that everything is fine.
Fees to be paid are (1) interview fee of $330 per person, paid at embassy before your interview - whether or not you get the visa (2) USCIS immigrant fee of $165 - to be paid online after you get your visa, before you enter. You won't get your physical green card unless this is paid.
hmm. so we dont have to pay any amount untill the interview yeah? So there is no processing fee for the ds 260 application?
-
hey,
my CN is 2015AS33XX and i submitted the ds260 in the beginning of june 2014. I was going through the visa bulletin for previous years and from the looks of it, i will have my interview in jan or feb 2015 (hopefully). so does this mean i will only get my 2NL or hear from the KCC only when its like november or december?
