  1. Husband successfully cleared customs today in Vancouver - destination Utah.

He had his lease agreement, work letter stating his return date and a return ticket.

He got pulled into secondary and was stuck waiting there for about 20 minutes.

They were annoyed that he didn't have a the full copy of his immigration paperwork, but they let him through anyway.

Haven't seen him in 2 1/2 months and I get him for a week!

  2. Hubby has been requested to send documents (Marriage cert, police cert, photos)

We are a pivot case so this is all being uploaded to CEAC

What are the best photos to include?  Obviously wedding photos...but is this like a free for all and just add anything that could possibly be relevant?

  3. I'm filling out the Affidavit of Support for my husband.

I moved to Canada in 2013 and filed taxes for the 2013 tax year, but since then I haven't filed or paid taxes in the states.

I don't know why I'm just now realizing this is a big issue. But yeah...now I obviously don't know what to do.

Until 2015 I wasn't working at all, and after that I didn't make more than 25,000 USD a year.

Anyone have a quick answer for this and what I need to do about this?  Nothing I'm googling is simple enough and now I'm having a heart attack.

Wau, bless your hearth. You have been waiting since Jan 10 ? (that is what your timeline says) That is excruciating!!!  I am waiting since Feb 1 and still no case number, some pivot cases got case numbers at 9, 10, 11 weeks now 12 with yours , I am almost at 11 weeks. Really NVC needs to be restructured, for future generations. It is so unfair for, I know that the pivot thing is exclusive to some embassies and that you get case complete faster ( winch right now does not matter) , but that has been going on for years now,  they should have made everyone equal on wait. .... I am so angry... i am trying to vent here ..... on top of it my beloved embassy is taking months to schedule interviews, I was really hoping to see my mother soon after 6 years, at this point I dont think I will be able to go to the interview. I hope everything turns around and things get better.  Anyways congratulations on your case number assignation!!! I hope you get an interview sooner than the average time.

It has been excruciatingly slow and no one had any answers. I spent hours on hold with the NVC for 3 minute phone conversations only to be told to be more patient.

I don't even know what the current wait time is for a Montreal interview.  I'm too afraid to look.

Thank you for your well wishes, I return them in your direction!

  5. My husband is coming to visit the end of May for my birthday, from Western Canada.

He's got a return ticket,  this is the first time he's entering the US to visit me, since I just recently moved down to have a more solid domicile.

Really eases my anxiety about him being turned away reading all the success stories.

  6. Our case was received on January 12th and although our information has been uploaded we still don't have a case number.

Thankfully, I always get a really understanding and polite agent on the phone who assures me I can call them a thousand times a day if it makes me feel better.

So far I just call once every day.   We're coming up on the year mark since we started this whole process.  It's frustrating.

    I miss my husband :(

    You're calling the NVC?

I'm assuming you don't have an NVC number yet? Your case might be electronic. In that case, when you call NVC and they ask you to select options, you select "5" instead of "7"

Or that you haven't heard back from the Montreal Consulate?

I've been waiting since March 7 to hear from the Montreal Consulate. :(

I'm waiting to hear back from the NVC.   I only wish I was waiting to hear from the consulate! :(

Hope you get some contact soon!

  8. After an hour and forty minutes being tossed around on the phone, I finally spoke with someone that told me that they are changing system and thousands of documents are having to be manually entered into the system now because of this "new thing" they are doing... <_< ?

Our notice date that our case was being sent to NVC was dated January 6th.  I'm being told it's still too early to be contacting them....even though it says on the letter to give them 30 days. ....um...it's been way more than 30 days? It's been over 60 and we haven't received anything from them....

Am I missing something?  I'm getting frustrated because I keep trying to get answers out of these employees but they keep giving me the runaround and not clearly answering my questions - and I'm sick of being told to call back and pick a different number from the menu of options because that "department" can't help me...

Does anyone know what's going on?

  9. Hi all,

I hope this is in the correct place.

At the end of March I'm moving back into the US (without my Canadian husband) to solidify my domicile and to just get things prepared for my  immigrant hubby.

I'm driving a Uhaul and towing my car behind.  I've been in Canada for almost 5 years and 99% of my belongings I've owned for over a year.   I've itemized every box I've packed, gotten the EPA letter for my vehicle.  I'm still feeling incredibly anxious about the move though so I'm wondering if anyone else has any tips or pointers that has been in the same boat?

    Thanks!

    hi Missmatalini (and all)

We too got approved on 1/5/2018 and NVC got my package on 2/9/2018. NVC initially said I should by done in 14 days which is 2/23/2018, but as of today 2/27/2018 they are saying they are behind and very recently got flooded with approved visas from USCIS and no time frame when our visa would be processed, talked to supervisor and was told the same thing... Pretty frustrating...

Any update on your case? Any other ppl with similar timelines got their I-130 visas processed ?

I finally got an update that On January 24, 2018 our case was sent to the department of state.

I had sent an email to the NVC email address and it stated  we should be getting further instructions in 4-5 weeks :\

Hey, do you have an e-mail set up where you could receive notifications for your case? I actually received NOA2 12/11/17 and then on 01/03/17 received an email from nvc stating they had received my case. From there the e-mail states the 6 steps you are to take.

I do have an email set up.

Also have had the online confirmation that it has been sent to the DOS.

Guess I'll try giving them a call :\  Thanks you guys!

  12. Hi all,

We received my husbands NOA2 in January, with the Notice Date being January 6th, 2018 (Priority date May 10th, 2017)

We haven't had anything come from NVC and my email has been left unanswered for over a week now. I know it's only been just over the minimum 30 days before contacting them, but I'm kind of lost on how long it takes to hear from them at this point?

Sorry if this is my own ignorance and inability to navigate pages.  Any answers or reassurance sure helps though! :)

    Thank you!

Nebraska is very slow, they are processing february

I'm holding onto the hope that the Processing times listed here on VJ are more accurate than the USCIS processing times..

On VJ timelines it's historically taking 198 days....apparently processing applications received on May 5th.  I know Nebraska is slow :( Just keep telling myself 1 more week....1 more week.

Thankfully I'm with my spouse, we are living abroad in Canada currently.  I know I'm lucky to not be separated and others have it much worse than I do.  I just wanna come home already :(

  14. So I'm assembling my i-130 packet, and then it dawned on me.

If I enclose a cheque, from my Canadian bank for the $420.00....after the currency exchange it's not going to be $420.00....

With the constantly changing exchange rate, how does this work? Do I send the CAD in the exchange rate so that it will equal $420.00 USD?

I'm so confused :\ please advise!

  15. Current timelines say Outland is 15 months. Inland is 26 months.

    http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp

I've seen both as low as 4 months. When my husband petitioned for me to move to the USA in 2012, it was 6 months for inland. We chose the USA because he had a better job than me and he had VA benefits (like no down payment on a house.)

Since this is the Canada forum, and the OP is in Canada at the moment, it is relevant to the conversation. Road to Canada is a great website for moving to Canada though, so should the OP decide to go that route they should.

ANYHOW, the only route to US residency currently is the CR1. I suggest highly reading up on sponsorship and domicile. Montreal is very strict on domicile.

I didn't intend on my response to you to come off snarky. I apologize if it did.

Timelines given by CIC aren't the best to go by necessarily, it's better to look at spreadsheets set up based on where you are immigrating from.... Wait time according to CIC when my husband and I applied was 32 months. Like I said previously, I got it in 9.

I've never heard of Road to Canada, I specifically used the Canada Visa forum, was a great resource.

I've lived in Canada now for 3 years, and am applying to sponsor my Canadian Husband in January. Excited to finally move back home.

Best of luck to all of you.

  16. Outland is faster but may not enable him to provide for his family since inland you can get a work permit in about 6 months I believe.

It's kind of a gamble honestly.

I've seen Outland applicants processed and completed with residency in as little as 4 months for those coming from the USA. I received mine in 9.

I know someone doing an Inland right now, it's been a year and they are still waiting for a work permit.

AND not to mention with Inland, you can't leave Canada without the risk of your application being thrown out.

Irrelevant to U.S immigration so there isn't a point to discussing it (There's a super helpful Canadian Immigration Forum if you do find that is where you'll stay, I used it and it was so helpful)

    Best of luck to you!

  17. Just apply for an extension, should be $100 * might have changed since it's been over a year since I've had one since I'm a Canadian PR now*

Usually you can request the length of it (I asked for 18 months as an extension and it was granted)

Still need to know how long you've been in Canada though...assuming it's more than six months you might need to flagpole instead - which is risky cause they could deny you re-entry

Also I don't recommend going Inland if you choose to stay in Canada.

You can apply Outland, while in Canada. It's quicker.

  18. The Canadian subsection has a thread talking about this over here which might be of use to you (skip later in the thread a bit for more current info): http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/164618-proving-domicile-when-not-living-in-the-us/

Basically, you either try to prove you HAVE a domicile or that you are re-establishing one. The latter tends to be easier for those outside the USA (so you show your tax returns and then that you have a place you plan to live, maybe a job offer lined up - that sort of thing).

Oh, and in terms of applying - you probably want to get your petition filed at least 9 - 12 months before you want to move back permanently. It's not a quick process!

    Thank you!

We aren't in a super huge rush. We want to try and save up for the fees and the costly trip for the interview (Last I heard you had to go to Quebec and we are in B.C so that's not gonna be cheap) I'd "like" to be back in the USA by the latest 2018, that gives us the time to finish school here and save up enough to move.

    Thanks for the reply!
