  1. I am a green card holder. I with my wife (who is American citizen and my sponsor too) came to Pakistan about 2 weeks ago. When I tried to fill in the AR-11 form online, the website stated that it is only for the American address and for any foreign address you should contact US embassy in your country. So I called the US embassy in Pakistan and told them about my address change. But the guy whom I talked to, did not seem to understand as why I wanted to change my address in USCIS record. I tried to explain but he said that I don't need to change my address now but when I go back to USA, then I can inform USCIS about my address change.

    My house in USA was rented one and I was planning to live in Pakistan for a longer period (may be for about a year) since I could not keep paying the rent, so I had to leave that house. Whenever I will go back I will have to find another house. I have given my friend's address to the post office to forward all my mail there. Now I want to know that do I have to inform USCIS about my address in Pakistan or not ? If yes, then how? because AR-11 is only for the USA addresses.

  3. My N-400 is under process. My green card is marriage based. I was interviewed (and passed the test) on August 10,2007. Since then I am waiting for the oath ceremony. I have contacted USCIS many times and even my congressman's office (on my request) contacted them, they told that the delay is not because of my name check , but they are not telling how long it will take to call me for the oath ceremony.

    I want to know if an immigration lawyer can help me in this situation? I mean can a lawyer make this process go faster? if so how much it will cost? --- Thanks.

    Now I am planning to go out of USA with my wife and kids, may be for more than 1-2 year. I am thinking to get a re-entry permit. The problem is that I am renting the house and if I leave the country, I will have to vacate the house and find another one on coming back. Of course, it will change my address.

    My questions are:

    1. how long it will take to get the re-entry permit ?

    2. can any one give me any suggestion, as to what should I do in this situation ?

    3. Do I have to inform the USCIS that I am leaving the country for a long time?

    4. Can I give them my address (that is outside USA) and request them to send me call letter for the oath ceremony at that address?

    5. Would USCIS people do this?

    6. Is it going to affect my naturalization process?

    I want to know all these answers. I would highly appreciate if any one could answer all these questions. Thanks.

  5. I filed N-400 in March 2007 and I was interviewed on August 10,2007. Since then 8 months & 14 days have passed and I am still waiting for the oath. My case status is not updated on the USCIS website. Someone on this website advised me to got to the local USCIS office & ask them why it is taking so long. So I did go to their office & asked them about my case status. The officer looked into his computer & then told me that my case is with the supervisor & that he can not tell me how long it is going to take. I want to know what should I do now ? I would appreciate any help/guidance. Thanks.

  6. I found the following information on USCIS website, in a booklet (pdf) named "Citizenship in the United States":

    "Rescission

    Individuals who are U.S. citizens by birth cannot involuntarily have their citizenship taken away. For naturalized citizens, citizenship can be revoked only if the government is able to prove that such action is warranted. Rescission of naturalization, or denaturalization, is recommended only where there is objective evidence to establish one or more of the following conditions: 200

    • Concealment or willful misrepresentation of material facts related to the naturalization application and proceedings;

    • Illegal procurement of naturalization;

    Residence in a foreign country within 5 years after naturalization;

    • Refusal within 10 years after naturalization to testify as a witness before a congressional committee concerning subversive activities; or

    • Becoming a member of any proscribed subversive organization within 5 years of naturalization."

    I did not hear before that residence in a foreign country within 5 years after naturalization can result in termination/cancellation of the citizenship. Any comments please!

  7. Hi everyone.

    It has been more than 4 months since I have taken the test/interview for the citizenship and now I am waiting

    for the oath ceremony. I want to know that can " Case Status Portfolio with Updates via Email" on the USCIS

    website be used to know the current case status i.e, to know how long it will take until the oath ?

    When I enter my application number to see my case status on USCIS website, I get the following message:

    " * Case Status Retrieval Failed

    * The status for this Receipt Number is incomplete at this time in this automated system and can not be displayed. Please check your case receipt number to see if it is correct. If you have questions or concerns about your case status, please contact the National Customer Service Center.

    Any input please !!!!!!!!

  8. Regarding the naturalization test, do they ask ONLY the questions from the study material available on the

    USCIS website ? or can they ask any question which is not in the 'sample questions' ? I am scheduled for

    the interview/test for naturalization. When I went for the fingerprinting, I was given a booklet with the

    study material by them. I want to know do I have to study JUST that booklet ? Please reply, thanks.
