  1. Hi all. Just wondering how the k1 process would be affected if my fiancee was working in a country other than her native one. could I meet her in the country she is working in to meet the 2 year meeting in person requirement? Could we file for K1 while she is still in the other country or would she need to go back to her native country?

She is from the Philippines but looking into finding work abroad where she can find it.

  2. Have a safe flight. You should be ok with what the airlines allow with the check in and carry on baggage allowance.unless you need to pay extra for more baggage. Where are you flying to? I know going to Manila. you will fly united to Tokyo, then switch to ANA . You will land in terminal 3 in Manila much better then terminal 1 which is where a lot of international flights arrive

You think I will have to check one of the bags I mentioned ? I'm flying from Indiana to Manila. I will go from Indy to Chicago to Tokyo to Manila.

  3. no it is diffrent for carry on most airlines goes by Width lenght depth plus the weight each airlines assign which is less them what check in baggage is. You can go to each airline website to find out what is the limit. Also beside a carry on suite case you are also allow a personel item such as laptop or small hand bag

I'm a bit confused now. I made sure my carry on and my personal item fit the size regulations but it's the weight that is getting me. I don't see weight limit on United but I see on on ANA. I have one carry on bag that measures 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches and weight about 23 lbs with just my clothes and a stuffed animal. A laptop bag with my lap top and some candy that measures 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches and has my laptop and some candy (not sure on the weight yet). Does this sound like a problem ?

  4. I have flown from Denver colorado to Manila. Using United and ANA.The weight for each airlines is about the same.the baggage weight for ANA is actually 23 kg or 50 lbs.

Thanks :) You've really been very helpful giving me advice with pretty much every question I've asked and I REALLY appreciate it :) I'm a bit nervous for my first flight lol IS that 50 lb limit for carry on? Thanks again!! :)

  5. Hey all. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about airline changes are they the same as a codeshare? I am flying with United than switching to ANA. On United you are allowed up to 50 lbs for your carry on but ANA says 22 combined weight for carry on and personal item, which rule am I to follow? On ANA's site it says you follow the main airlines rules if it's a code share and I'm not sure what that means exactly. Leaving Sunday and I think my bags will be over weight if I have to follow ANA's rule.

  6. I will be going the Philippines soon to visit my girlfriend and was wondering what to do money wise. Should I bring US currency with me and just use that? or just bring a debit card and take out a little amount at an ATM? Some have said to exchange at the airport but I will be coming in late and don't want to keep my girlfriend waiting outside too long and not sure how hard the exchange process is.

I would appreciate any tips on if to bring US currency, how much to bring, if to convert and where to convert money.

  7. Hi :)

I will be traveling to the Philippines for the first time in a few weeks and was planing on bringing some gifts with me, but in my research on what to do I ended up gaining more questions then I answered.

I was hoping to bring some candy, a stuffed animal, a movie, small fabric handbag, a ring and possibly some cheese. I've seen a lot of people say not to declare the items as gifts, but to just stick in your check on luggage under some clothes and the two problems I have with that is first I was planing on just bring carry on luggage and second this is my first time going there and I don't want to try and do something secretive and have it come back to bite me lol

Does anyone know if I need to declare these items to keep from getting stopped by customs? If I do declare them is there a fee? and if so how much?

Some of my family has suggested just not bringing anything or bringing everything but the candy and cheese, but I was really hoping to be able to bring it all so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    :)

  8. Ok I' not sure if this question fits here but really could use some advice. My girlfriend and I were originally going to do a k1 visa and get married where I live in America as I had heard it was the easier quicker option and with my work and finical situation traveling and staying there long enough to get married might be a bit hard, but my future parents in law have recently stated they want us to get married there and do a cr1 Visa. I've tried doing some research but am still unable to decide if it is something I can do.

I've read it can take 12 days to get marriage licenses after getting a Affidavit in Lieu of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage which I read is not hard and then once I get home I can petition to bring her home which can take close to a year. But can I count on that time frame or would there be things that could keep me there longer? Will I have trouble bring her over and proving we have a real marriage if we just get married and I go back home right away and file?

I could probably spend a max of 2 maybe 3 weeks there if I push it do to my work so anything that could make it take longer might make it hard for me.

Other than having to go close to a year without being with my wife is there anything that makes the cr1 harder than the k1?

I'm having a hard time explaining to future parents in law why we're not getting married there so if I am able to do it I will try , but if what is right and it would be hard for us based on our situation I need to find a good way to explain it.

    I appreciate any advice :)

  9. I'm new here and not sure if this is right place to ask but hoping it is lol :)

I am going to see my girlfriend for the first time in February and have only flown once but only a short distance and am curious about some things.

I'll be having two transfers on the flight there and am curious what to do. First transfer is in Chicago then second Tokyo. After getting off plane what steps do I have to go through? Is their customs and security or do I just go to desk in check in then go through security?

Also I'll be arriving at the Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport in terminal 3. Can someone who is familiar with that tell me of steps I need to do after getting of plane and how to find my girlfriend as I read she has to stay outside of the airport.

I am very unfamiliar with flying so any tips and suggestions including things to bring would be greatly appreciated :)
