  1. I have been doing trips backs and forth to the States for the last 14 months with no glitch whatsoever. I have never been asked any proof that links me back to Colombia. Basic questions such as how long I will be there? who am I going to visit?. Tell her to keep it simple and just answer the questions. Be honest and she will be fine. I always carry any NVC notifications and copy of my return tickets.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

  2. I had my interview today. The outcome was not the one expected. I was placed on AP with no reason given other than they will let me know after more reviewing.

Question: If after reviewing my case and the final results come back positive, how long do I have to send my passport to the consulate?

This is my situation: I have a work trip I can't change in 2 weeks for about 10 days. Once it is over, it would be Christmas which I want to spend with my husband in Seattle. I would plan to come back home 1st week in January. If my case is finally completed while I am away, do I have a grace period to send it back to consulate?

Thanks a lot of any information on this.

  3. We applied for the I-130 abroad and then my partner moved to the US and I went to Colombia. My suggestion for you is to start trying to get a job in the US while the process is pending. She will able to visit you anytime. That is what I have been doing with no problems at customs. Just make sure she can prove she is has ties in Colombia (work letter, any real estate, etc) I have never been asked a single question other than why of my visit and how long I will be there.

I noticed that your city is Buenos Aires. Are you applying from Argentina? Probably by now you have realized that this process takes about 12 months or so. So very unlikely she will be able to move in February 2015.

Good luck and let me know if you have more questions.

  4. Actually that information is not completely accurate. She can visit you while the visa is in process regardless of the stage. I have done it myself several times with no problems at all. As a precaution, make sure she can prove at the airport she has ties back to her country. Work letter, any real state on her name, anything she can prove that she is just visiting and that she will return back to her country. As long she is truthful and honest, she shouldn't have any problems.

I have never been asked anything other that who I am going to visit and how long I will be there for. Of course, this is as long as she already has a B1/B2 visa. If she doesn't have one, then she will be denied one at the consulate.

  5. I have also been in your shoes and the recommendation from Sweetopossum is spot on. Be honest, stay calm and don't say more than what you are asked. During the last year of this process I have been traveling every 4-6 weeks and stay about 3-4 weeks in Seattle with no problem. I always say I come to visit my partner and the length of time I will be there. I also carry the NVC paperwork with me in case, but I have never been asked for anything.

You will be fine. Good luck!
