  1. We went to the DMV today, they let my wife to take the written test for learner's permit, she passed and the application is process is done but in the end, we were not able to get her learner's permit because her name in EAD doesn't match the name in SS yet even though we have everything including the receipt from SS Office that she changed her name to married. We just need to go back once her name is changed in the social security database or something and DMV will issue the permit. What a hassle, and it's a waste of time but I guess it's my fault that I forgot to change her SS name immediately after getting the EAD around couple weeks ago. I wonder how long does it take for DMV to see the updated married name in SS database. We are planning to go back next week and see if DMV can check the married name in the SS database.

  2. Thanks guys for the reply. We went to the SS Office and we were able to change my wife’s name to married but they said it might take 4-6 weeks to receive the card.

I called DMV and explain everything and the phone rep said my wife can get Driver’s License/Learner’s Permit with just EAD and SS card with maiden name as long as she brings the receipt from SS that she changed her name. (I'm thinking maybe they will check in the system)

We were hoping there will be no hassle when we go to DMV sometime next week. We really want to get her permit now so she can start studying. Will post an update for anyone in similar situation. :)

  3. Hi ianhalliwell186,

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, she applied for the SSN before the marriage. We just want her to get a learner's permit so she can start to study driving here in the states. I think you are right to change her SSN name to married before going to DMV. So we can change the SSN name now with just EAD(married name) and marriage certificate right? Will the note in the SSN about work authorization go away with just EAD?

    Thanks

  4. Hello,

We are now in the process of getting my wife’s Green Card. She already got her EAD with married name. My wife SSN still has her maiden name and with not allowed to work note (she got SSN after arriving as k1).

Can she get a Driver’s license just with EAD and SSN with maiden name?

Also, can she change her SSN name now to married name with just EAD and marriage certificate?

We were from the K1-process btw and we are now happily married :)

    Thank you.

  5. Hello everyone,

I petitioned my fiancee (now my wife) thru K1 visa. She got her Social security number now and we got married recently. Now, we’re ready to adjust her status.

Based on my research, I will have to send I-485(AOS) and I-765(EAD) together with supporting documents.

She had her medical prior getting her K1 visa as a requirement. Here’s her DS-3025 looks like.

    1.png?_subject_uid=212922089&w=AADJtSLb8

Now, I’m confused on I-693. It says

    2.png?_subject_uid=212922089&w=AACgpT-Z4

I also heard that AOS only need MMR Tdap or Td or DTP (within last 10 years) Varicella (or VH if had chickenpox disease). Flu shot only if exam during flu season. If she had all the required shots at the time of the medical or if the form says incomplete but have a blanket waiver the ones needed for AOS., then we don t need to see civil surgeon. Is that correct?

Can someone please evaluate her DS-3025 if she already have the required vaccines and we dont need to see Civil Surgeon? or can someone please advice us on what is the next step regarding I-693/DS-3025?

    Please help.

    Thank you so much.

  6. 1. Yes, you can mail all forms in one envelope. However, it's a good idea to have something to separate each forms and their corresponding requirements in an organized manner like paper clips, folders, etc. But all the files will all be sent together in ONE envelope.

    2. Note that each form has its own supporting documents. So, yes on the duplicates. 4 pictures if you're submitting AOS & EAD. 2 copies of I-94.

Also, might be a good idea to include an I-131 (AP), since the fee is waived when the EAD & AP are filed with the AOS. This has a separate set of requirements too. If you do, total number of pictures will now be 6.

    All the best!

Thank you so much for the reply. That's all I need to know. I appreciate it. :)

Yeah, we thought about AP, but it's a little complicated for us since we don't know what to put in Intended Departure, Length of Trip etc. We are not really planning to go outside the US right now til we get the Green Card.

    Again, Thank you.

  7. Hello everyone.

This will be my first post but I’ve been reading in this forum a lot. I’ve learned a lot and I owe this forum cause it helped us to move forward on things.

    Now, my questions are

    1. Do we mail the EAD together with AOS in one envelope?

    2. Do we mail duplicates requirements? Example, AOS requires 2 passport photos. EAD requires 2 passport photos. Do we have to send 4 passport photos? Another example is the I-94. Do we mail 2 copies of I-94?

    Thank you so much.
