Thanks, keeping fingers crossed and hoping for the best. good luck!

I wonder if the timeline of getting passports back from the embassy will be faster or slower due to this change from Loomis to Canada Post

Thanks for the heads up. I see two locations for Montreal:
225 BRIDGE LOCAL 4 (next to costco)
7640 BOUL ST-MICHEL
if anybody goes to either of these locations to pickup, please share with us how easy/difficult it was to find the office.

i checked out several for a move from hamilton, ontario to reno, nevada
i got quotes online from upack, pods and the relocation group and also had 4 big moving companies come to assess my goods and give me better estimates.
i chose not to go with a self pack company although they were significantly cheaper because i was not prepared to pack the cube myself and wasn't interested or trusting of others for hire to pack it. along with personal belongings I had several pieces of furniture, lots of glass and many mirrors to move.
after reviewing the 4 international companies quotes (atlas, united, north american and allied) i chose atlas. they were: less per pound, offered more insurance for the $, gave me great assurance on their packing/wrapping techniques, offered the best information (the others were in and out quickly and assumed I knew everything about moving which I did not) and had the best 'fine print about additional charges' . ***remember though the agent coming to your house is merely a sales person, a representative, and not the actual packer/mover in most cases.***
the day of the move 3 very mature guys showed up...not young boys and they knew their stuff. after completing the inventory sheets for customs, the driver personally wrapped all furniture inside the house and then again on the truck and did all the packing in the truck while the other 2 did the hauling of my goods. even though the driver, from oshawa, never worked with the 2 guys, from hamilton who did the hauling, everyone was in sync and knew their job. needless to say, i was impressed. that bulkhead was packed very tight!
my stuff, just over 5000 lbs, should be arriving any day now; atlas gave a 7-13 day delivery window. there were 3 more households being moved with my goods (this was the only downside of going with a mover--i did prefer a self contained cargo box). i will update when i have more to report.
hope this helped.
How much did the quote come out to per pound?
Did you only need to fill out the 3299 and supplemental? Or also a power of attorney?
-
The US citizen is hiring moving company to move household goods back to the US from Canada. The moving company asks for form 3299 & Supplemental Declaration for Unaccompanied Personal and household effects.
On the "Supplemental Declaration for Unaccompanied Personal and household effects" it asks for:
Reason for moving
employer
position with company
length of employment
nature of business
name & telephone of who can verify the above.
I am not sure, but do you know if this is asking about the USC's previous employment in Canada? or the future job offer in the US?
Why does the USC need to explain reason of moving? Would "moving back home to be closer to relatives" be sufficient?
and if no previous employment.
It doesn't really make sense why a USC would need to fill this out, as it makes more sense for immigrants to fill it out, anyway movers asked for it. Any guidance would be appreciated.

So it says at NVC, then TRANSIT then READY . So what happens after ?
I don't remember seeing mine in TRANSIT.
Mine said At NVC for a couple days, until it said In Transit only for a little over a day, now it says READY in Montreal.
I didnt notice IN TRANSIT either. oncefuturealien, your status only says READY, correct? and not "READY in Montreal".
i wonder if we are all seeing same thing.
mine shows: READY, case number followed by 01 MTL, case creation date, status updated date: nov 17
Your case is ready for you to schedule an interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal. If you have already scheduled an interview appointment, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the Consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3731.html

Hmmm, do you think this means all our files are at MTL already?
-
my case on CEAC site changed from At NVC to Ready
and the Consulate Appointment & Courier webpage https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ shows
Current StatusAttend AppointmentSame for me. I guess once they mail our files to MTL it will change to IN TRANSIT

I have a question about ais.usvisa-info.com
after you register there, you select a document collection location. So, I selected QC and branch in Lachine.
It also asks to enter the name & address as it appears on the driver license .
On the page it says "You can collect your passport after visa processing from the document pick up location you select below. This service is included as part of your visa fee. You will be notified by email when your passport is ready for collection."
So, the way I understand it is I will drive to Lachine location to pickup the passport and they will not mail the passport to my address? only pickup at Loomis location, right?
Just want to ensure they won't mail it to my driver license address I provided on this site.

sorry to bring back this thread, but I was hoping someone can share any additional experiences of getting a mortgage after moving to the States with IR1.
In our case, neither of us is able to show 2 years of US tax returns. I've been self-employed in Canada and will be self-employed in US. We both have good credit history, due to having lived in the US in the past.
I do have a TD Canada Trust and HSBC accounts in Canada.
40% as down payment would be difficult, probably would be able to do 25%
Do you think finding co-signer would be the only way of buying a house without waiting for 2 years?
-
ok, based on that I'd say stamped dates are not required. That seems to be more of gov't of Canada requirement.
-
Good luck to anyone with December Montreal interviews!
-
For those who had their photos done for the magical and the interview. The photo studio said there is only one size for US - passport photo. Did you have each individual picture stamped and dated or every other ?
stamped and dated? I got my photos in a US costco. There are no dates stamped. Can someone else elaborate on whether this is really required to have dates stamped?

Yes I found it it's a AAxxxx. Now it says Current Status: Attend Appointment. It looks like it's a confirmation to attend appointment and loomis delivery package.
Now all you have to do is get your medical, read all the things a few more times , make sure you have all your paperwork, and go!
ETA: a note to read everything again. I can't wait to see what I missed so far!
I think after I input all the info into the usvisa-info, their website showed the correct interview date and time. I guess this website has access to verify case number and confirmation number

It's page 2 of the PDF that you are instructed to download from the NVC page that is *referenced* in your appointment letter.
I have cut and quoted exactly what it says, I can only assume that all appointment letters tell you to go to the NVC site and download instructions specific to your consulate, since there's one for every blessed consulate.
Ok, registered on https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/iv/information/iv_services
what about the page 2 of the emailed pdf. Is yours also empty?
-
FOR MONTREAL on the NVC appointment letter down't actually say to go anywhere and confirm appointment. I downloaded a P4 packet instruction for MTL and it gives this link
https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/iv/information/iv_services
Do we need to ?
It's clearly an important step, so I'm surprised this info hasn't been included in the NVC appointment letter . Also I went on the MTL Consulate website and don't see any info on confirming appointment.
It's in Step 1 of the Before Your Interview page (page 2) of the MTL Packet 4 instructions PDF that the appointment letter instructs you to read.
(Appointment letter says
...I think they do it this way so they don't have to keep track of every consulate-specific instruction at NVC when they're doing appointment letters; they just tell you where else you need to look.)
If there's anything this whole thing has taught me, it's that no matter how awesome you think your reading comprehension is, you need to (in my case) print things out and read them again, and then read them one more time. I have constantly caught things on second and third read.
My P4 that was emailed also doesn't say anything about the https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/iv/information/iv_services
The problem is that 2nd page is completely blank in the P4 pdf they emailed me. Is your page 2 page not blank? Can you scan or take a picture of the 2nd page of instructions (without personal info) and post here.

I have a good feeling about tomorrow, Nov 13th.
Last year, the only Canadians to be scheduled during November, were scheduled only on Nov 13th. All six of them were scheduled for December 17 & 18 interviews.
So, let's see if I'm right
Makes me wonder if there's only one person who schedules for Montreal and they're out sick or on vacation or something.
I'm glad it's not just me, but I'm sorry that it's all of you, too
I got good news. It seems this time my prediction was right and I was told that we're scheduled for December 11. Phew!
-
called again...still no interview. now 115 days since case complete.
The last 14 Egypt cases took on average 125 days, but as much as 160 days. Based on this I would guess that you will probably be scheduled in November and will go to interview in December or January. Good luck.

called, still got nothing. I thought Montreal appointments wouldn't take that long. Day 17 for me since CC.
jj2543, oncefuturealien, Roni07 you should try calling in 2 hours, maybe they'll make something happen at the end of the day.

Black Ink is what it should be. Have not read anyone required to use blue ink. So no you should not redo.
I think people keep saying blue ink, because, considering that most people fill out the form on the computer and print, how would an IO be able to distinguish between an original blank ink signature from a printed/copied version?

Received P4...
Interview scheduled November 10
Email received November 11
Interview Date December 29
Finally the countdown has begun
Cool, so after you find out its scheduled, it only takes 1 day to receive the interview email ?
-
I just got off the phone with NVC, no date yet. I guess the MTL consulate is dragging their feet. hopefully soon
yep, same here.

So I guess tomorrow nvc is closed? Veterans Day?
N400 application & home ownership title
in US Citizenship General Discussion
Posted · Edited by canuk2usa
I'm getting ready to file N400 in a few months, under the 2yr9mo rule, GC via IR1 (married in 2008)
I noticed that people tend to include their house title or rental lease with their application. I'm about to buy a house, but with title held as "married man, as his own sole property"
Could this be a problem for my application if I don't put the house title under both our names?
