  1. This is probably a stupid question but I'm a Canadian citizen but hold a US green card and reside in the US. Am I able to travel back to Canada for work for short periods of time without causing any issues? I'm talking a week or so at a time every few months so nothing major. As a Canadian citizen I assume this wouldn't be a problem on that end either? Thanks!

  2. So I am seriously stressed out and confused. My husband and I are moving to the U.S. On Saturday. My mother is giving us her 2007 Honda Civic but we are terribly confused about what we need to do.

Do we need a letter from the car manufacturer?

Also, the car is just being signed over in my husband name on my mother's ownership papers but we are just getting temporary plates from Ontario (10 days). Is this all we need to cross into the U.S.? We are stopping in Colorado for two weeks (where the 10 days will expire and we may need to get a second set of temporary plates) before driving to our new home in California where we will get the car plated and complete the transfer process of the car from my understanding. Is this going to be an issue? I'm really worried about all this but from my understanding the temporary plates are far cheaper than having to get the car replayed in my husband's name both in Ontario and California.

  3. Hello everyone,

my husband and I are both living in Canada but he is American. We are applying for a green card. We are ready to send out i-130 package in and just wanted to be sure we have everything we need:

    -cover letter

    -I-130

    -$420 cheque

-US citizen birth certificate and passport

-Canadian citizen's birth certificate and passport

    -marriage certificate

    -husband's divorce document

    -g-325 for both of us

-passport photos for both of us

    -joint lease

    -joint bank account proof

    -photo evidence

    -affidavits and letters from parents

    -g-1145

Am I forgetting anything? Also, does the marriage certificate have to be a certified copy? Does anything here have to a certified copy or notarized?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi guys, I have a quick question about third party affidavits.

My parents as well as my husband's parents each wrote and signed individual affidavits. They included details of our relationship, dates, addresses, etc but did not get them notarized.

At the bottom, they are dated and signed but they don't have the part that says "Sworn before me this _______ day of _______, 2014 __________________" that I saw on many visajourney templates for affidavits. Is this ok? Notarizing seems pretty expensive in my city and I didn't want to bother if not necessary. We have proof of a joined bank account, photos, as well as these affidavits. Thanks!

  5. Hi everyone,

my husband and I are beginning our green card process and are quite confused.

He is American and I am Canadian. We were married two years ago in Toronto and he has been a Canadian permanent resident now for over 6 months. We are wanting to apply for my US green card and relocate to the states.

Where do we begin? Is it true that there is no longer direct consular processing for Canada?

    Thanks!

  6. Yes, your husband can sponsor you to the US. He should file his US tax returns even if he doesn't owe anything or pay any taxes as US citizens are supposed to file returns regardless of where they live. As he has no income, it won't cause him any problems. The main issues you will face are: 1) finding a joint sponsor who will complete and sign the Financial affidavit of support that is a requirement of immigrating to the US since your husband does not have US income to do this on his own, and b) proving or re-establishing US domicile. The process otherwise is the same CR-1/IR-1 process that would be used if he were still physically resident in the US. There is a great link in the Canada Regional Forum about how to prove domicile - as well as a lot of other Canadian-American couples, many of whom have gone through the experience you are now considering. Here is a link to the forum - the domicile topic is the first thread pinned at the top: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/93-canada/

The process can be very confusing, and it will be more challenging that your sponsorship of him to Canada but it is doable and you should be able to find a lot of the answers you are looking for here with our members.

welcome to Visa Journey :) .

    Thank you so much!

His parents have offered to co-sponsor and he has mail and such sent to their address (where he used to live). We do not intend to move to the same state as where they are living in the long run. Is this a problem for co-sponsoring?

  7. I am extremely confused by a number of things and was wondering if anyone had any insight onto what I need to do in my particular situation. I am Canadian and my husband is American.

My spouse came to Canada in 2012 and we married and filed for his Canadian permanent residency. He received his canadian permanent resident status in October of 2013.

We are now unsure we want to be living in Canada as, work-wise, for what he and I do, it is limiting.

Given that he now has permanent residency in Canada and is living with me in Canada, can he still sponsor me for a US green card?

Also since he has been in Canada for these past few years, he has not had to file any US tax stuff as he has earned nothing there and I have been supporting him in Canada. How do we get around this?

I am so confused and reading a lot of contradictory information about this entire process and feel so defeated. Please help!

    Thank you!
