  1. Hello all,

Because this site has been such a blessing to me, I want to share with you my Green Card Interview experience in Detroit Michigan and answer any questions people may have with their process. I had a lawyer throughout the entirety so I know a hefty amount about the process

I married my Canadian girlfriend in June of this year. We went through some hickups along the way through the process (she was actually red flagged at one point after unsuccessfully crossing the border) but ultimately ended up at the USCIS office in Detroit for our Green Card Interview. We went through the K1 route.

We arrived at the office an hour and a half early and sat there for the same amount of time before being called in at the exact time of our schedule interview. The immigration officer, a female, was exceptionally kind and barely asked us any questions. Our lawyer had provided us a packet of original documentation, which she did not take. I gathered all supporting documents (insurance, lease, bank account, etc) prior to the interview and packeted them nicely. She asked if we wanted to give her anything, and that packet was all she took. We talked mainly about how we met, and in general, just shot the for a little while before she approved us. The entire interview process must have lasted about 10 minutes.

Our interview was on the 16th of December. My wife's green card is arriving at our apartment tomorrow, December 31st, just to give ya'll a general time frame of when you'll actually receive the card.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you want. I am more than happy to help.

  2. Hey all!

My wife (Canadian) just moved to Michigan with me and we got married on July 1st! Anywho, she has her K-1 visa. We are about to start getting things together for Adjustment of Status. Can we go to the Social Security office and apply for a SSN for her right now? Does anyone know if her name is officially changed to mine once we receive the marriage certificate or only after we get her a SSN and card? My lawyer told me otherwise but he has been terrible and I haven't trusted a word he's said. Thanks for your help!

  3. Hello to all!

My fiancee had her interview on the 2nd and got approved. Really the easiest interview ever. We just checked the CEAC website to see whether or not the Visa has been issued and it has! Good stuff. Anyways, just wanted to know how long some people waited before they retrieved their passport from Loomis. Her location is Loomis in Markham, but we havent received any email confirmation or anything. Is there anyway to track it without the waybill number yet? Thanks to all for your help.

  4. Hi everyone,

FIrst thank you to all that respond to this. I am an American, my fiancee is Canadian. She has her interview at the US Consulate in Montreal on Monday June 2nd. Anyways, we we first filed everything, Packet 3 etc., it had my parents address on everything because that's where I was living. I moved into a new apartment about 3 weeks ago and now have a new address. I put the new address on the forms that we need for the interview (I-134 & I-864) and just figured she would tell them that I moved into a new place. Is that alright, is there anything else that needs to be done prior to that? I may just be paranoid because we are so close to the end of this thing. Any help would be appreciated!

  5. So we got an email back from Montreal that said they did not receive our packet 3, even though we got confirmation that it arrived at the Consulate. Our lawyer also sent the packet 3 via email. Has anyone had this experience and is there any way to contact the consulate directly for matter like this. I am so utterly furious I cannot believe this entire process.

  6. Howdy everyone.

I am American and my Girlfriend is Canadian. I live in Michigan she lives in the greater Toronto area. We've been dating for a little over three and a half years and have been going through the immigration process. The Montreal consulate received our Packet 3 about two weeks ago on March 7th. I just wanted to know how long people waited to receive the Packet 4 from them with the interview date and the medical exam information. Any information would be beneficial. This site has been great.
