  1. Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out how to file my Canadian taxes, and it feels like I can't find the right answer! I arrived in the US at the end of November and did not have any US Income because I did not have my EAD until 2015.

Can we file online? or do we need to do this manually?

    Anyone else in this situation?

Also, in future years, will I need to file a Canadian tax return (although no Canadian income) so that I can claim my National Student Loan interest credit?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

  2. I filed for my EAD on December 29th and require an expedite due to personal financial loss and I have a pending job offer. My first request for an expedite, I received a letter stating that I need to complete my biometrics and then request a second expedite. I then received an RFE for my marriage certificate and they said that they needed this in order to move forward and for me to request a THIRD expedite.. They claim I should hear something this week.

If I were you, I would try and put an expedite.. it can't hurt.

  3. Hi everyone,

I'm technically a December filer, they received my AOS and EAD packet on the 29th. I had requested an expedite on my EAD and I received a letter stating that they needed me to complete my biometrics appointment before they make a decision; I went to my appointment on January 23rd and had to request a second expedite once completed. At the beginning of February they sent an RFE for my marriage certificate (which I know for a fact that they already have a copy in the packet), once again they stopped my expedite stating that they required this to move forward and for me to request a THIRD expedite. My EAD case number still states the original message, that they received my I-765, however, my AOS now is showing that they received my RFE and that they should have a decision or an update by April 6th..... WHAT??? I'm confused.. So they will have an update on my Adjustment of Status BEFORE I even get my EAD? This is getting ridiculous.

Sorry, a little rant-ish, but this is where I am so far. I can't wait for it to be over.

  4. Hi everyone,

Just an update; Finally received my passport back last Thursday but had to wait until Saturday to leave due to the snow storm in Buffalo.. Let me tell you, 9 hours of driving with Christmas music really gets you in the holiday spirit! We are doing the whole court-house wedding (big wedding in the future) and flying grandparents in.

I'm relieved and anxious because I know we are past a major hurtle but now we have to file for AOS/EAD... grrr...

Did anyone else see the fox news broadcast where they say that people who filed the LEGAL way are just chumps, because of Obama allowing the illegal immigrants the opportunity to file and remain in the US? I'm pretty sure ALL of us deserve our paper work to be completed before any of theirs get touched! - Just my rant for the day haha.

  5. Buffalo, good luck with that! I don't know about there but it's supposed to get to a high of 10C here over the weekend. SO hopefully that will get rid of all this nasty white stuff that keeps falling from the skies :(

Does your case say AP on the CEAC website? or READY or ISSUED? Trying to gauge how long of a wait I have since I'm reading AP... And have been for 2.5 days ....

God I hope we all just get our passports and can spend Christmas with our loved ones. this is the wooooorssst

Thanks! I am really hoping it clears up.. I just want to get home.

My case status on CEAC states the following:

    U.S. Department of State

    NONIMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION

    Issued
Application ID or Case Number: VAC********** 01 MTL Case Creation Date: 13-Nov-2014 Status Updated Date: 17-Nov-2014
Your visa is in final processing. If you have not received it after more than five (5) working days, please visit www.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/us_courier_information to track your courier waybill, to check your profile at the appointment website, or send an email to Contactus_en_ca@usvisa-info.com to determine the status of your passport.

For more information, please visit U.S. Consulate General Montreal.
  6. I just contacted Loomis and they stated that there is absolutely no way that they would pick up documents without waybills and that the embassy should never have stated the above in your email; The lady stated that we should contact them again and tell them this and to confirm where exactly are our passports.

    So frustrating..

  7. Hi everyone,

My interview was in Montreal on November 13th, on Friday it was changed to Administrative Processing, and this afternoon my status changed to ISSUED on the CEAC website. There hasn't been any change on the CSC website where they receive updates from Loomis. Fingers crossed that it will be here this week!!

  8. Hi everyone, another K1 Montreal filer here!

Had my interview on November 13th and was approved within 5 minutes! Now I am just waiting for my passport to be returned.. I have been checking excessively since the CO stated that I will have my passport back in 3-5 days.

I am driving back to Maryland and I'm hoping for a speedy return on my passport so I don't have to drive through all the snow.

  9. Thanks Tina! Wishing Andy could be here for the interview but he can't take work off and someone has to take care of our dogs.

Positive thoughts for Johan's EAD - I just wish that they would think to approve it as part of the K1 process... very annoying to not be working for that long!

Good luck Nicvno!!! I'm looking forward to finding out how it went. :)

As for EAD, we're still waiting for Johan's. A LOT of people who filed back in September are getting theirs already, and here we are, filed Aug 2nd, and still nada. :( It's supposed to take 60-90 days. and most are. but we're currently sitting at day 94. :ranting:

  10. Congrats on all the latest approvals!

I had my medical in Toronto last week and it took all of 35 minutes - not what I was expecting. Parking was available outfront and I paid $6. My interview is next Thursday in Montreal!

Just an FYI for Canadians, some people claimed they havent received the email but the embassy is advising to bring the petitioner's ORIGINAL birth certificate. My binder of information weighs about 5lbs - I am so ready for all of this to be over!

Has anyone on the Feb Form, who has been approved already, receive their EAD yet? How long did it take for you to receive it?

  11. Congrats to all the recent approvals! For those who are still waiting, hang in there!!! I didn't have much hope for ours, especially since they claimed that they had to finish contacting all of my former US employers (which they didn't do at all); We finally contacted our local congressman, who was a great help, and one of our city representatives (they actually contacted the Canadian Embassy, not sure if that helped or not), and then one night I received a text message stating to check my status.. the emails didn't arrive until the next day. It doesn't hurt to contact your local representatives!

I waited two weeks after my approval notice to start calling NVC, when I did call they told me that it was already on its way to the Vancouver Embassy... problem is, we submitted an address change so that I would be at the Montreal Embassy! Now I am waiting to hear back about what my next steps are..

  12. I have a TD Canada bank account with a Borderless Plan and a TD America Bank account. You can send me-to-me transfers to pay bills and they will reimburse you for the charge. I transfer money to and from my TD Canada Bank Borderless Plan account because they stated that you get the best/most accurate exchange rate this way. Hope this helps!

The first time I tried this, the US Bank didn't know that this existed so you may have to educate them on this (Very annoying that some don't even know their own policies).

  13. What do you mean exactly by changing the status of your SSN? I was under the impression you simply go to a local office once you get your EAD after filing for AOS and they provide you with a new card?

I already have a SSN and on the actual document it states that it is only valid for work with DHS Authorization; my question was, will I just keep this SSN card in the meantime until a new one is issed once I have my PR.

  14. Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where I can find information about changing the status on your SSN? I have previously held multiple work permits and was assigned a SSN, however, it clearly states "Valid for work only with DHS authorization".

Hopefully NVC has received out case now and we are trying to get all of our paperwork in order for the final interview, marriage, and AOS.

    Thanks!

  15. My fiance (I'm the beneficiary) had to submit a letter stating that he needed to change my address from XXX to XXX, and he had to provide some sort of evidence that I had changed my address (sent a copy of my recent dentist appointment that had my new address). They accepted this.. However, we have now received our NOA2 and I need to change my address again.. they have told us to wait for NOA2 to confirm which address I will need to send the change to - For me, this will affect which Canadian Embassy I will have to travel to for my interview.

    Hope this helps!
