  1. It might all depends on the job you are applying for qualifications and skills you have. I have a bachelor's degree that allows me to work as a teacher since my studies are recognized here. However, after one week of receiving my EAD, I got a job at my husband's office where I will have a fixed salary and also make extra money through commission which could potentially be 3,500, 5000, 7000, 9,000 and even more depending on your performance. I got the job because of my communicative skills and the fact that I am bilingual I believe. I still consider working as a teacher because I love that. I think it could be easy for you to get a job since you obtained your degree in the US.

  2. I applied for my SSN today. I showed my EAD & passport. I changed my name so the EAD is the only way to prove that and I had to show the passport to prove I had the other name listed on the SSN application form. You mainly need the SSN # for work related matters so I'd suggest to try to get when you have your EAD with the name you choose to have. According to the SSN lady my card would be mailed to my house in 2 weeks.

  3. I don't think the CO does any really deep evaluation of the evidence. Everything is done beforehand in all those offices that check and handle the cases. I believe CO's job is mainly to verify that the people are actually the ones on the evidence and reinforce or refute the overall evaluation of the case done by other people. My interview lasted around 8 minutes, he took my fingerprints, he asked who was sponsoring me and when was the last time we met, walked away to calculate the time of the last meeting and that's all. We had been on a long distance relationship for around 5 years so when we sent our case, we sent a lot of very detailed evidence. I think that's what is really important. Evidence that is very detailed such chat logs. We basically sent a thick book of yahoo chat logs, around 8 letters from friends, pictures from the 7 opportunities we had to be together, which actually showed how we had physically changed through the years, personal written recounts of our relationship. The most we stayed together before the K1 visa was 15 days, so I don't think living with the fiance is actually required.

  4. EADs based on a pending I-485 are valid for one year, and can be renewed for free multiple needs if needed.

The only way you would have gotten a 90 day EAD is if you applied simply by virtue of being a K-1 after PoE. Given that you have to pay the fee, it's only valid for 90 days, and it takes about 90 days to process it, then it's essentially worthless.

I get it now! Thank you! :D

  5. Thanks for this, nice to read British experiences for AOS.

I'm waiting for my interview letter now so it's good to see what I could and should be collecting for it.

As for being white, I understood what you meant, it wasn't you being racist, you were generalising how it can go for certain people.

To be honest it is always easier for lets say a white straight couple than any other, which is sad.

It is the same for everyone. Let's not spread misconceptions. I've read on this site stories regarding successful interviews of same sex couples. If an officer made a distiction, he/she would be breaking the Federal law.

  6. My apologies! I wanted to make sure I said that so others who come from say a gay couple who are refugees would understand that my situation is admittedly different

By the time you go to the interview, the officer may have already something in mind. It is a bona fide relationship or a fraudulent one. That's all. Being gay wouldn't make no difference and probably being a refugee neither because what needs to be proved is that the relationship is real.

  7. Being white, heterosexual or any other kind of thing makes no difference because you are dealing with the Federal government, which has the obligation of coping with the cases based on the *federal rule of law*. You can be as white as snow as well as English as Queen Elizabeth, but if your marriage is fraudulent, the officer will make no distinction and handle the situation they way he must and vice versa.

  8. I got two notices:

    I-485:

On December 31, 2014, we accepted the fingerprint fee for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSCXXXXXXXX. Our National Benefits Center location is working on your case.

    EAD:

On December 23, 2014, we received your Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization , Receipt Number MSCXXXXXXXX, and sent you the receipt notice that describes how we will process your case.

    ***************************************

I'd like to know if they are reviewing what I sent and might send a RFE later. How do the RFE is work? I'd liek to know if everything I sent was correct and don't have to worry about paperwork anymore! :)

    Thanks in advance!

  9. I will get my vaccination records sealed by a panel physician. I was Googling the form and found one that is the same but with different design. I also says the expiration date for the one I found is 2017. Is that the same? Does this mean that mine, whose expiration date is Aug. 2014 isn't valid anymore? Just curious. Here's a link of the new format: https://panelphysician.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/DS-3025-fillable1.pdf
