  1. Hi,

I'm a green card holder and would like to visit my sister in Toronto but my Philippine passport is about to expire.

Planning to cross the border on August 19 and stay for the weekend. My passport expires Sept 15.

Would I be allowed to enter Canada and go back to the US smoothly?

I did some research but I got conflicting answers. :/

    Thanks mucho!

  2. I am not a tax consultant, but I believe there is an agreement between the USA and the Philippines regarding "foreign income" that all is good as long as you pay the taxes in one country or the other.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I guess I should seek an advice from a tax officer just to make sure.

Below is the tax treaty, should anyone feel the desire to read it:

    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-trty/philip.pdf

Nosebleed!!! I shall try my best to read it, at lease some parts. Thanks for the link!

  3. It depends on your employment contract..I supposed you can be declared as an employee based in the US by the company so you dont have to pay taxes in the PHL. I know some ppl who works remotely for a US based company and they are declared as a PHL employee so they dont pay two taxes.

It seems like I have to pay two taxes. :/ i'll look more into this. Thanks!

If they can send you a 1099 form at the end of the year (http://www.irs.gov/uac/Form-1099-MISC,-Miscellaneous-Income-) then you can report the income and be in compliance with US law. Or you can declare it on your own when doing your 2015 Taxes.

Thanks for the advise! I'll probably just declare in on my 2015 taxes since it seems easier. I'll talk to the company about my taxes in PH.

    Cheers!

  4. You will have to pay US taxes on it.

You may have to pay taxes on it in Philippnes also, But I am not familiar with tax codes in Philippines.....

I'm planning to pay taxes here. They'll also deduct taxes from my salary in PH. :)

  5. Hi,

I am planning to work online for a Philippine based company.

Am I allowed to work remotely in the US as long as I declare my earnings on my tax returns?

Or does the company in PH have to pay US taxes as well?

    Thank you!

  6. mucho...??? Isn't it maraming...? :)

    Yup. Mucho = much. :D

If you do not receive your new card in another week I would contact SS by phone and inquire if there are any issues preventing them from issuing your new card.

Thanks for the advice. Will do!

  7. Hi,

I applied for my SSN before getting married and received it on the mail a week after. Went in again to the SS office after marriage to have the name updated

to my marriage name. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't received it. My concern is, do they assign you a different SSN after marriage? Or do they retain your old

one and just update it with your married name?

    Thanks mucho!

  8. The expiration date on the I-94 is 90 days from POE, you need to be married before the 90 days and you "legal status" expires then as well.. even though that isn't much of a concern.

You need to get your SSN at least a couple weeks before the expiration of the I-94 or you will have to wait until you have your EAD or green card.

    Got it! Thanks!

Some people advised to get the SSN before getting married because of the K1 status upon entering the U.S.

I'll get married early next month.

  9. One more thing, the expiration date on the form, what does it signify?

As said you get it online. You will need a copy for getting your SSN and for filing AOS

Ayt, I assume the expiration date is for getting the SSN and filing AOS?

  10. I had my interview July 23 and also hoping that i will get my visa at hand before the 29th of July because he already booked me a ticket but if in case it won't arrive on time, we don't have a choice but to cancel or change the date of my flight. What makes it hard for him is because we don't have any specific time frame on when we will get the visa. It feels like forever that you are waiting and no idea when it will come :-)..BUT KEEP THE FAITH!

Congratulations to us who got approved!

You might get your visa soon. Those who were interviewed last week are getting theirs already. :)

  11. Immigrant visa unit inquiry line for individual case number 023012000 extension 5184 or 5185 call them except 12-1 noon and during office hours.Guve ur case num ans passport as well as your petitioner.Keep me posted as we are in the boat!

A shame it's already the weekend so I'll give them a call next week. I thought the stress was over after I was approved!

Will keep you posted. Thanks mucho!

  12. I call usem manila and they said my status still on process and was updated last july 23 but i check online still july 14 was the last update so i guess ceac site not 100% accurate i think..best to call usem.

    Hi,

How were you able to get that info? What number did you call?

When I check online, my status was last updated last July 14 as well. Called the embassy (02-9825555 / 02*9028930) twice today to check if my visa

was touched or if there are any updates after July 14 but the call center agents told me they don't have access to that information.

A simple "yes, it was updated to blah blah" or "no, the last update is still last July 14" would have answered my query.

They just kept saying somebody will get in touch with you via email blah blah if there are some additional documents needed.

    I'm confused.

    Thanks,

    Ara

  13. Congrats!!

When will you receive the visa? 5-10 days from issuance (which is not the interview), maybe two days less if you pick up at MOA

    Hi Hank,

I've used your links countless of times and for that, I'm grateful! :)

Hey, had our interview july 14th and got approved. Already booked tickets for ttomorrow but had to cancel as our visa hasnt arrived yet. Saw news about the glitch on their database worldwide. Hope they fix it soon as my fiance is 8mos preggo and we need to travel while its still safe.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well. Hope our wedding won't be cancelled because of the delay! Stay positive!

Hi guys, had my interview last july 11 Philippines and went well no 221g given and verbally said im approved but till now no visa issue yet i checked online but my ceac status always ready and last updated july 14.Im a bit worried here, any help to lessen my worries?

We have the same interview date! My last update was on July 14 as well. Please let me know if there's any progress with your visa.

I read of news about glitches that caused delays on visa issuance worldwide. Even "Harry Potter" star Daniel got stuck in Canada because of it.

We call the US Embassy from time to time. I had my intvw for k1 visa and was approved too but still on "ready" status. US Embassy advises that it is already on queue for visa printing but they are just waiting for some update from the US before printing. You might want to call them.

I read about the glitch, too. I know some applicants who were approved (NO 221G) and are waiting for 2 months now.

Some, on the other hand, got their visas after a week. One lady had her interview last July 17 and received her visa July 23.

Called the embassy as well. :) Hope they'll step it up. Lots of backlogs already.

  14. Hola!

Had my interview last Jul 11 and I was approved (NO 221G). Let me thank all of you for the support

we received. It would have been one of a hellish journey if not for the guides and members on here. *bows*

So, was wondering how long before I can receive my visa? It's for pick up

at SM Mega Mall 2GO Branch. Trying not to pull my hair out because our wedding will be on Sept 5. :(

    Thanks mucho!

    Ara

  15. Don't worry about the address change, not an issue, my wife did an address change just before the interview. Besides you have a BIG address change coming very soon ;)

    Hi Hank!

Thanks :) Got my clearance and finished my interview at the Quality Control of NBI. Apparently, another person with the same name as me committed a crime.
