  1. Thank you nightingalejules: Yes, you are right, I did more research based on your response.

They are here legally on their tourist visa which expires in 2016. They were here for two weeks and now are leaving. They have never been out of status with any of their visits. The AoS part of the question was a bit hypothetical (we discussed it last night with them to see if it was even a possibility) since they are never here for too long to do it. But based on what I am reading, some others have mentioned that doing the AoS on tourist visa could somewhat be an issue, because of the intent of I-130 vs the tourist visa.

There is DCF in Turkey but I did not look into into it because it requires the US Citizen to be there for six months minimum, and that is not possible for me.

Thank you again for your response. Now my only concern is, if we send in the I-130, (which could take a year to process and issue the green card), what would happen to their tourist visa? Is it void? The reason I am asking is, if the whole process takes a year but they want to travel here in the meantime (before 2016, while their tourist visa is still valid), would they have issues with entering the country? If you think so, would showing their assets and their return flight ticket at the port of entry help their case?

  2. Good evening all,

Newbie here... I am planning to send in the 485 and 130 for my parents. We are in Chicago.

In terms of the length of processing, do you suggest consular processing (them getting called to the interview in Istanbul, Turkey, or having them stay here in Chicago and handle all the steps in Chicago? I had heard that the consular processing may take shorter?

    Thank you all in advance.
