  1. "Unless the policy has changed recently, you do not have to wait for Packet 3 to go for a K-1 interview!!!! "

-- I had this same question, as this was what I had heard. When I called the consulate, they told me you do have to wait to receive Packet 3 before you go for an interview. They say that they are "processing" the paperwork and that you have to have the letter from the consulate to go for an interview. THey were very clear about this. Of course, they do often give incorrect information too.

What have other people heard recently from teh consulate?

  2. I'm feeling pretty annoyed today. I called the Ciudad Juarez consulate 2 weeks ago, and they told me that the average wait time for them to send out Packet 3 (after having the approved I-129F) was 2-3 months.

I called them today and the guy who I spoke with said the wait time is now 5-8 months?!? I made him read it off the computer screen because I was convinced he was wrong. He had no explanation for why this would be so.

I'm really desperate for any real information about what's going on there? Has anyone else heard this? Every timeline I've seen listed here for K1s in Mexico gives a much shorter timeline for sending out Packet 3.

    I need some hope.

    thanks!

  3. But, I do think you have to wait for Packet 3 to be sent out before you can go to the interview, you have to be "notified" that it's okay to show up. I think what they are doing is holding on "certifying" my fiance's paperwork (so they said).

Do I have this wrong? If he could just show up, he'll go tomorrow. I don't know why there's a wait. I can't imagine it's IMBRA-related, as they should still be processing all pre-IMBRA applications.

    Thanks for the thread.

  4. I was wondering why my fiance hadn't yet received Packet 3. They received the file from NVC on May 16. They told me that they are currently having waits of 2-3 months to send out packet 3 for K1 visas.

She told me to expect it in July or August. She didn't know any reason why it is suddenly taking 3 months instead of 3 weeks to send out the packet.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

    Thanks!

  5. Hi all,

I'm putting documents ahead-of-time for the interview at the consulate. I was born abroad to USC parents and so used the FS-240 as my proof of citizenship (not the birth certificate). Do I have to send the original with my fiance to the interview? (Unlike birth certificates, you cannot get another original copy from the State dept. unless your original has been lost or destroyed.)

Or can I send "certified" copies? Or can they just be "notarized"?

    Has anyone else encountered this?

    Thanks all!
