  1. We are an American and Japanese bi-national couple. We met in the spring of 2005 in Japan. We became officially a couple that summer. We married in canada the summer of 2010 surrounded by family that had traveled from America, Canada, and Japan to be with us on our special day. We had a son in 2012 and settled in to spend the rest of our lives here in Japan...life is Great but work opportunities slim for this American. I was ecstatic when DOMA fell. We got our paperwork together and sent it in. Our NOAI is February 2014. I applied and was accepted to Grad school and am looking forward to pursuing better opportunities for my family's future. Finally we have the medical appointment next week followed by the interview next month. We are so excited to get on with our lives. I'm nervous (for my wife) about the interview... :)

  2. I sent in two immigration packets, paid 2 IV bills and the 1-per family AOS bill. I got the standard, .." we will review your paperwork in 60-day on October 1. December, I got word about my wife's packet...there's a mstake, fix it, send it back...DID...got the "...we will review in 60-days.." February 1 ..you'Re clear and we'll let you know when we schedule and interview...Still NO WORD about my Son's packet since October 1!!! What's going on? does anyone else have experience with this..Is it because he's 2? and everything will eventually catch up?

  3. I sent in a packet, one for my wife and one for my step son to NVC AT the end of September. I got the notice saying that the NVC a at received both of them (2 separate notices) and to wait 60 days for them to be reviewed.. Beginning of December I got a notice that there was an error on my wife's affidavit of support, correct the error send it back... Nothing about my step-son... Corrected the error, sent it back.. Beginning of February: got a message that my wife's case was complete at NVC and we'd be notified about an interview... Nothing on my step-son... Is there somewhere that I can find out the status of my son's case IMMEDIATELY? It's Sunday in Japan and I'm going crazy! I can't get in touch with NVC until Monday 07 eastern standard time!!

  4. I dont want to start a new thread if I can get an answer here....about a "similar" issue

I received notice today that stated, "The NvC recently completed our review of your visa case. While you meet the minimum qualifications for a visa interview to be scheduled your AOS contained one or more sections with missing or incorrect information...blah, blah, blah. Once you have completed the new AOS, please provide it to the principal applicant to bring to his or her interview...blah, blah, blah...

-**the mistake was -I put my address in the states instead of the principal applicant's address-- :(

    My questions are these...

!. Does anyone else have a first-hand experience of having to submit an new AOS at the time of interview.

    2. Will this delay the "approval" of our visa...assuming that our visa will be approved (eventually)...Ive heard of visas being approved within a few days of the interview...I'm wondering if they'll take the 864 and send it back to NVC...make us wait 60 days..and then tell us if the visa is apporved or not...

    Thank you...

  5. My Japanese spouse has a biological son with a Japanese man. Her son is on HER family registry, not his. The father is acknowledged on HER registry as the boy's father. (ninchi). There is NO such thing as joint or shared custody of a child in Japan and the non-custodial parent has no right to visitation under Japanese law. Will we need his father's writin permission to leave Japan with "her" son? Does anyone have first-hand experience with this?

  6. I'm currently waiting for green cards for my wife and 2-year old "step-son." What will be my legal rights over my "step-son" when he finally obtains his green card and he enters the United States as my family member. Will I still have to go through an adoption process before I'm able to make education/ medical decisions for him? Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you

  7. According to the form directions, I must apply for I-129f (k3), for my spouse in the country in which we were married. We were married in Canada, but I'm American, my spouse is Japanese? And we live in Japan... So? What happens when we apply in Canada??

  8. Yes! It is so clear that if should be sent to Chicago!! We live in Japan!! I asked him why he sent it to texas and this was his reply!

"You mail it to Phoenix because that is where they process the payments. The service centers don't have cashiers. After they process the payments the file is sent to the respective service centers and in your case Texas as that is where you are planning on residing (question on your I130).

Believe it or not I have been doing this for ten years and i do know what i am talking about."

He tells me texas.. I question him ANC he says Phoenix!!! My lawyer is an idiot! What do I do??
