  1. Hi Everyone,

My wife was given her DCF last week in Mumbai and she is now here with me :). No hassles at the interview. One thing to keep in mind, even though the new rules states to only bring recent year tax return and not to have them I864 notarized. I suggest you still get it notarized and submit last 3 years. When she went to the VFS office in Mumbai, they asked her for all 3 years when preparing all the documents for her. Luckily I had sent everything. Also, even though my salary was more than enough, he asked for my bank statements and property papers.

My wife asked him why are you including these papers, when my salary is sufficient, he advised that it should be included just to be on the safe side. So I suggest, you send your spouse all the papers.

One thing to keep in mind, make sure you make photocopies of all your tax returns because they take them.

In any case everyone, thank you for all the help. You have all made this happen, very swiftly and painless.

I do have few more questions. When does she get her green card. They gave her an A# on her passport when she entered USA at the airport. Is that considered a temp. green card, until she actually gets one in mail? Also, do I need to go to the Social Security office to obtain an SSN, or will they send me one? I know I had checked "yes" on the DS230, PII form. Also, do I need to get a registered marriage done in NY?

Thanks again for all the help!

  2. Hi Jordaar,

My suggestion is that you should get her name changed after she goes to the US. Reason: Seems like you filed I-130 with her maiden name. If you change it now (while the visa process is in the pipeline), it will be confusing - the petition will be in her maiden name while the changed passport will be in her new name - just my opinion - please take others opinions also.

Also, how did you know that your petition was approved on 3/24? Did you receive a letter to that effect from the consulate in Delhi? Or did you call them or e-mail them to find out?

Also, once you submit Packet 3, they will give you an interview date right away, correct?

Lastly, I dont think there is a way to find out the case status at any of the consulates in India - call or email is the only way it seems.

Please keep posting and let me know what goes on between now and the interview.

    Thanks.

thanks agrawala for sharing your thoughts. we are going with her maiden name.

we sent DS-230 part-1 to Mumbai. have already applied for passport renewal. will send checklist in week to 10 days.

you are correct best way to communicate with consulate is email. i knew reading basanti's posting on this group that within a week papers reach Mumbai. so i emailed Delhi and they said oh yes you are approved we mailed it to Mumbai, if you have more questions you can contact Mumbai.

btw, do you know what is the procedure to obtain police certificate in India? where do you go to get such a thing? is there a standard procedure to follow?

I had filed I-130 in my wife's married name. I then went and got her passport changed right away with her married name. Besides she needed a new passport anyway.

As far as getting her PCC, you have to submit the request at the police headquarters in mumbai, who then forwards it to the local police station of your area, who then clears you of any problems and issues you a certificate. Do these things quickly, as our mumbai police can take some time.

Hope that answers your question. Let me know if more info is needed, i am midst of all this right now and I can ask my wife for more details.

  3. Hi Everyone,

My wife just got her packet 4. Thank God!!!!

For her medical exam, they are asking her to bring all her previous medical tests. About 1 1/2 yr ago, she had a procedure done to remove a benign lump in her breast. The lump was only 1cm. She is scared to take these reports to show them. Do you think it would pose any problems? Would it be fine if she doesn't take her previous tests? What kind of tests are done when you go for the medical tests? Please help. Thanks.

  4. Thanks for your reply.

Now this is the packet that was sent to my wife:

Under Police Certificates, there is part which list "Foreign Police Certificates". It says:

"Foreign police certificates: applicants who have resided in any other country for one year or more after the age of 16 may also be required to submit police certificates for these countries."

My spouse has never stayed in Romania for her studies 1 year straight. She would be there for like 8-9 months for her semester and back in India for couple of months and then back in Romania. So does it mean I don't have to get them?

I wish this stuff wasn't so cryptic :(

  5. Hi Everyone,

I need your help on this. She got a letter at home saying that her petition has been approved and has sent her DS-230, Part 1 and II to fill out. Stupid Question here, she is considered the applicant right?

Also, my wife was studying in Romania for last 6 years, but she was there for like 5-6 months for her semester, come back India for couple of months and go back to Romania for her next semester. Does she need her Police Clearing Certificate from there? Because it would be really tough for her to get the certificate, since she is back in India for good.

And what happens after the DS-230 form submission? When does she have to present the I-864 form?

    -Really Confused

  6. Hi Everyone,

You guys have been of great help. I filed from New Delhi on March 9th. Just got back to the states. What happens now? How long does it take for them to approve I130? Also is there a way I can check to see the status of my application? What does my wife need to take with her when she has next interview? Again thanks a lot you guys, you have all really helped me out.

    Amit.

  7. Hi all,

I have a question for you guys. I am currently in India and about to go file from ND in few days. Now my wife's current passport has her own last name in it. We have submitted for a new passport, which will have my last name in it, but it will take some time before we get that passport. In all the paperwork, should i put the last name that is in the passport right now, or can i put my last name in it?

Another question I had, was in her passport, she has her old residence address listed. Unfortunately, the registered marriage certificte has the same address, because they use the address on the passport. She doesn't live at that address anymore. Can I put her current address in the application?

I am really worried over these points, as I am hoping this doesn't end up delaying anything. Any help on this would be great. Thanks everyone.

    Amit.
