  1. Of course you can do it yourself -- lots of urban myths swirl around this subject, so let's just look at what is on the USCIS web site:

    Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

    The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

    Certification by Translator

    I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

    Signature_________________________________

    Date Typed Name

    Address

    There is no written rule that says you can't do your own translations.

    Thanks for making it clear!

  2. Ok, I know in the past I have seen VJers saying that they (beneficiary or petitioner) did the translation and signed in this format:

    I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

    Signature_________________________________
    Date Typed Name

    Address.

    I remember reading somewhere (I believe it was a gov website) that the translation cannot be done by the petitioner or beneficiary even if they are fluent in the languages, it must be translated by another person who is fluent. If this is true, my next question is, can the translator scan and email his signed translation (then I print it and send it in the mail, making it a copy of the original translation), or must the original translation be mailed to me (the paper he physically signed) and I send that?

    I hope this makes sense. Thanks.

  3. For the following items, I put "NONE." Should I put "N/A" for some of these? I'm sorry but I really don't understand the difference between it's not applicable me or I don't have it. Those mean the same to me:

    C. 9;

    B. 10;

    B. & C. 11 and 12;

    B. & C. 14;

    C. 20;

    C. 22;

    D. 1;

    F. 1

    For item 18, if the USC is living and filing abroad, will anything be sent to the this address where the immigrant intends to live?

    For phone numbers, should we write our numbers abroad?

  4. no.. I was not married when I tried the visa..

    I was wondering if it's a good ideia if she sends a Letter to me saying that she will host me there during the non immigrant staying... I don't want to overstay or do illegal stuff that can ruin my legal permanency as a legal resident...

    I just wanted to stay there during a short period to know her relatives and know better place that she lives, so what do you think guys ?

    may this "cover letter" thing work ?

    just to repeat :I did not say that I was married to the official in the two interviews i had before because I was not married at that time...

    again thanks a lot for you guys, it's being really helpful, I really enjoy this forum! :thumbs:

  5. Thanks all, the answers where really objective

    I got the point.

    but my wife wants me to visit her in the us (she's american), I have no intention to do illegal stuff like overstaying the visa, but she was telling stuff like.. if it's a bad idea to say that I'm married to the consular agent ( in the interview for the tourist visa)?

    another thing I did not submit the marriage visa application.

    thank you again for the good answers!

  6. last year I tried the visa to the us, but I got denied, I want to know that the fact that I told them that I was going to go to minessota affected the result of the interview, I want to know if the place does matter, should I be focused only in the ties thing ?

  7. Is it possible to change the address from the US to the beneficiary's country? I was hoping I could start filing here in the US (had to move back due to very expensive Brazil) and move back after making some money. In the meantime, I want to get this process started.

    I'm guessing they will demand proof of domicile. Would a recent voter registration card and a screenshot of my bank account online (I signed up to stop receiving bank statements because of clutter) be enough to show domicile?

  8. work permit? about -18 seconds after exiting the POE door.

    SSN? About 3 to 4 weeks after POE, if'n you go to a SSA office 3 weeks after the POE date.

    I hope you weren't relying on the fact that you ticked a box in the DS-260.

    Does that mean that the beneficiary can only work after getting the SSN? I thought one of the benefits of the CR1 was to have the right to work right after arriving in the US.

  9. Hi I'm reposting because there was a misunderstanding that I was asking about DCF and then no one replied because of that.

    All I want to know is if there is still the possibility that the visa process becomes faster because the petitioner applies from outside the US. I'm not asking about DCF, I know Brazil doesn't have it. But there was a thread about getting an "auto-expedite" from applying from abroad, and I want to know if this is still possible.

  10. There is no more DCF (filing abroad) from Brazil, so you must file in the US with the appropriate lockbox facility; expect it to take around a year for the approval.

    I wasn't asking about DCF. I would send the documents to the US from Brazil. But I saw a thread that said that in countries where there is no DCF, applying from abroad makes it faster than applying within the US.

  11. Hello,

    I was wondering if filling abroad is still a faster process than filling from the US. I heard that these days, filling abroad does not process more quickly anymore. Is this true? I'm deciding where I will file based on this.

    As far as establishing domicile. I have this:

    • A checking account in the US (can I print a page from my online banking account or does it have to be a letter from them?)
    • I'm registered to vote (how do I show this? do I just say that I'm registered and they'll look it up to see that it's true?)
    • I have a valid drivers license (but the address on it is not the US address I will put, not even the same state, does that make it not ok to use as proof?)
    • How can I show that I am searching for employment in the US?
    • Could I also show email conversations inquiring about housing/apartments ads that I found Craigslist?

    I hope someone can help me to figure this stuff out. Thanks.

  12. I'm sorry if this is the wrong section

    but I was wondering if it is possible to expedite the visa in case my wife ( us citizen ) has anxiety and depressure problems, and

    that makes her life really painful and get her life stuck, like, she can't get a job and shen can't deal with people but in a really bad way

    is it a good idea to do it ?

    she really needs me and she go back there to get stuff done but she can be alone for a log time because her health problem

    I don't know what to do...

    I also, need to help her paying for the bills and stuff

    we are already married in brazil, but I don't know , is it possible to start a K1 visa in this case ?

  13. Rings aren't required. Just be honest if they ask (which they likely won't).

    why lie? Yell the truth to immigration, ALWAYS

    Shouldn't be an issue. Just say the truth if they ask. Very unlikely they will.

    Wow, so fast, everyone, thanks! I feel glad that they really don't care, and I don't have to buy some cheap ring just for show at the interview.

  14. Hi,

    My husband and I both agreed that we just don't care about a wedding ring--it's our love that counts. Also I really hate the feeling of rings.

    Will this be an issue (I know it's not for K-1) for the CR-1 visa interview? Can my husband (who will go to the interview alone) tell them this reason, that we don't believe in rings and tradition? Or should we say something like that we want to wait until he's in the US to save up for nice rings? I'm just worried that they won't believe him and think that it's a lie.

    Thanks.
