Hi all,
Just a quick question - thought some of you on here might have the answer. My husband's visa was approved 9/16/14 and he handed over his passport at the Sydney consulate. His CEAC status immediately changed to 'Administrative Processing' and then changed to 'Issued' on 9/18/14. However, now it has changed back to 'Administrative Processing.' I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this and if so, is this standard procedure?
Good luck to all. Thanks!

We only received a letter from NVC about the interview (the generic one) but nothing from the consulate specifically. I'm not sure that there's anything specific to Australia required, apart from the 3kg pre-paid express post envelope. We picked one up yesterday and unfortunately all they had in the 3kg range was the plasticky type, not a solid envelope we also received our medical results yesterday, so will take those in addition to copies of everything we've already submitted.
If you want to attend the interview with your spouse you'll need to contact the consulate via email and request that they add your name to their security list. I emailed last Monday and haven't heard back yet, so will follow that up today.
Other than that, I guess just read the links in the first post of this thread (which I gather you have already done) for tips I have been firing random interview questions at my husband the last few days - just to keep him on his toes!
The Sydney Consulate is fairly easy. Here are things to consider...
We were NOT asked for the DS-260 confirmation. We took anything that was on our interview letter (plus copies of everything else), but we were not asked for anything. Nada. Zilch.
The interview letter will come from NVC via email.
If you are going to the interview with your husband, you need to write the Consulate via email and get written permission to attend. They will send you an acknowledgement and tell you to bring the letter with you when you come. We had this, and were not asked for it at all.
And, if your hubby's results from his medical are on a CD-rom, he will need to show this to security, and make sure they understand what the CD is. If they don't allow him to take it up, he'll have to go all the way back down to the 10th floor and retrieve it!
Good luck!!!!

Thanks for the help! We were informed by NVC that we will receive an email from the embassy regarding the interview so I guess I'll give them a week and wait to hear. One more quick question (and I feel really dumb asking this) but how do I obtain the DS-260 confirmation page? Is it too late to do that now? I read on the travel.state website that you don't need to bring it with you as they have full access to it but would rather be prepared than not!
I won't be going with my husband to the interview as I'm already back in the US working so he's on his own. He should be fine though!
Thanks again!

For those holding out for their CC emails... Not everyone receives them. I had NVC confirm our CC but never received the email. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with when your interview is scheduled (ours was within a week of CC).. But don't stress if you don't get one
Hi there,
Thanks so much for the information you provided earlier in the thread. Would you mind giving me an idea of what my husband should be preparing for the interview? I've read all the lists but wanted to see if there is anything Australian specific that we may have missed. Also, did you receive a letter form the embassy with all the information they require you to bring to the interview?
Thanks and I hope it all goes well!

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck using the DHL tracking information? I have tried but haven't had any luck and NVC confirmed they sent our package on the 19th. Just curious. Thanks!

You are applying for a different Visa type, though, and the CR-1 takes a lot longer to process at NVC than a K-1 because all the NVC does for the K-1 is assign a case number and send it off to the consulate abroad. The NVC can take as little as 2 weeks to process some K-1 cases, so I doubt a senator would be as much help at the NVC level for K-1 filers.
This is true, as many people in the IR-1/CR-1 category have been waiting at NVC for 5+ months. But senators are there to assist their constituents with any issues so if you are having problems at NVC, I don't think it would hurt to contact your senator. You're obviously not guaranteed any certain outcome but raising awareness and advocating for yourself is never a bad thing!
-
Wow, how was that? Did you contact them after NOA2 and ask for that? Did you have a specific reason?
I wrote a letter of complaint regarding the NVC process (due to the long wait time, misinformation provided, etc.) to both my senators and was fortunate enough that one took the time to look into our case. I did not request an expedite directly but that was the outcome of our letter.

Hi, hoping someone on here can answer my question. My husband's file has been sent from NVC to the consulate in Sydney. Do we now need to complete and submit the DS-230 Part I and II and DS-2001 (?) immediately or do we wait to hear from the consulate? Additionally, would you advise we book the medical appointment now or wait until we receive the letter from the consulate. Any information, advice, or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!!

I know the uscis site says 5.5 months but I see some April and March filers are getting approved. It's just so unfair!!!!! It pisses me off don't get me wrong I'm happy for them but it's hard to wait!!
Anyway my question is does anybody here ever call their congressman?? How did it go? I called my senator office they ask me to release a privacy form. Any suggestions
Hi there, my senator was able to get our file expedited from NVC and sent directly to the consulate. It is worth a try. All they can say is no. Good luck!

Hi there,
My husband's case was expedited and we are waiting to hear from the consulate in Sydney. Just wondering if anyone else has had the experience of expedition and how long it typically takes to be scheduled for an interview, etc. Thanks!

Hi all,
Has anyone confirmed if it is 60 days or 60 business days? Thanks!
-
Nothing about the IV is dependent on AOS You could have your IV reviewed without ever mailing AOS in.
Thank you for this. I was unsure how it worked exactly. This whole process is doing my head in!
-
Hi all, I have a quick question for all - I feel really dumb asking this. Does NVC not even touch the IV packet until they've accepted/approved the AOS packet?
Thanks!

Hi all, my husband and I received a checklist from NVC which we sent back last week. We were informed 20-30 business days for review but are wondering if anyone has any experience with this being faster? We've been in the NVC stage since April and it feels like it will never end. Thanks!

I believe you need your dad as a Co-sponsor they want to make sure the Beneficiary does not need public assistance so why not just go ahead and have your dad fill it out. That's what we did my father is the sponsor and my mother the Co-sponsor and actually only needed my father. Just play along with the idiots I mean NVC.
Ha! Isn't that right. Thanks very much. My dad is self employed so his income varies greatly each year - I think this is what has thrown them off. I don't think they could make this process any more difficult. And I have been through it myself in Australia - was way easier and more streamlined.
Thanks heaps!

Hello,
I have a quick question for you all and I apologise if this has already been answered in the thread. To give a brief overview - I was living overseas with my husband until the end of May when I returned to the US. I am actively seeking employment here but have not had any offers as yet. Becasue of this, we were required to use my mom as a joint sponsor. However, we just received a letter back to say my mom does not meet the income requirements (she is under by about $400) and they have requested we have my dad fill out an I-864A with his income information. I have spoken to several representatives at NVC and done a bunch of research but keep coming across different answers. Here is my question - my parents HOUSEHOLD/JOINT income is well above the poverty guidelines for their household size. Will this be acceptable or is the joint sponsor required to solely meet the income requirements independently?
Thank you to anyone who has advice, suggestions or experience to share.
Cheers!

Hi all,
Not sure if anyone on this thread can answer these questions but hoping you may at least be able to direct me to the right place. I am the peitioner and have been living overseas for the past four years with my husband. I am aware that I cannot technically be his sponsor because I have no income earned in the US but am still required to complete an I-864 form. I do have foreign earned income and have filed taxes in the US each year. I am wondering if I list my foreign earned income on the I-864 form or list it as '0'?
Thanks for any and all help!

Hi
i called NVC today and they told me that they just put our case in their system. The lady was very nice and gave me the NVC case number and IIN. but i need to call back tomorrow to give them our email addresses.she explained since they just entered it, she cant add anything on it yet? they recieved our case on 03/03. so it took them exactly one month. yaaayyyy finally more moving than waiting is happening
Yay! Thank you! Your case was received one day before ours so hopefuly we will get a file number soon. The last lady I spoke with was really rude so I haven't wanted to ring back. Fingers crossed.

Hi y'all,
Have any of you have been lucky enough to receive an NVC case number? Our case was recevied 03/04/2014 (or so they tell me) and just wondering where everyone else stands.
Thanks!

Try this link, it gives you all the info you need, practically step by step .

Also, from what I understand, the affidavit of support needs to be completed for each sponsor separately.
Thank you!

Hi all, congrats to everyone who was approved! We got our email on Saturday afternoon (we're in Australia, so would have been Friday night). Huge relief to say the least, hope everyone else gets their approvals sooner rather than later! I have been doing a lot of research but I am somewhat confused about the NVC process. Would someone be able to send me in the right direction about what the next process looks like? Also, I am currently living and working overseas with my husband and am wondering if we will need a joint sponsor for the Affadavit of Support. Does anyone have experience with this? Would be great to hear any suggestions/advice. Thanks for the help!

Hi there, so glad to find this forum! I filed my peition for my husband on August 13, 2013 and we received an email notification to say the case had been transferred to our local USCIS office on February 11th. Finally! Fingers crossed everyone gets approvals soon.
October 2014 Interviews

Hi there!
Thanks for the congrats. My husband said the overall process was pretty smooth. He waited for 2 hours and was one of the last people to be interviewed. He said they asked general questions about our relationship, how we met, where we got married and where we'll be living in the US. Apparently the entire interview took about 15 minutes, they then took his passport and advised his visa had been approved. All in all, a positive experience.
Good luck to your husband!
