  1. First of all, congratulations on completing your bachelors.

In my opinion, it shouldn't be a problem. Unlike the last trip you took, which was 5 months and bordering on a grey area (Since you were studying for a long time outside the USA) it's obvious that your trip to Paris and UK will be a short vacation.

My only concern is that you might be asked questions about your 5 month study period in Pakistan when you return to the USA from europe (Since US CBP can see your travel history when they swipe your green card)

thank you so much.I wont mind if i am asked questions regarding my past travel cause i already did provided them the documents but i wont mind providing it again.

  2. Hey Everyone!!!!

I had my PR (10 Year Green Card) from last year September 2015 and after that i traveled back to Pakistan to complete my Bachelor.I only had one semester left on my 4 year studies; So I stayed outside US for 5 months and few days (forgot about the number of day) but it was less then 6 months before i entered back to US.

CBP officer did asked me couple of questions like:

    1-Why you went back ?

2- Why you stayed there for so long?

    ETC.

I had all my paper work with me so i explained everything to them so he entered all the information in his system.

So now that i have been in the US from march,I am planning to surprise my friends(paris) and sister(uk) on Christmas So my question is

1 - Is it ok to travel outside US the same year i have stayed for 5 months ?

2 - Will this cause any issues on applying for the citizenship ?

I will be spending a week in each country so the total trip duration will be 2 and half weeks.

side notes: I have electric bills, bank statements(renting an apt) and i have a company registered in the US under my name.

  3. If you delay your interview until June you may or may not receive a visa in time to travel during your vacation period. Many applicants go into Administrative Processing after the interview -- a process that can often take several months. So, if you delay too long and are put into AP, you might not get the visa until after your vacation time is over.

that's a valid point.IF this happened i will have few months to complete my degree that is if my project is accepeted. So i won't have any issue returning back home for few months instead of coming back for yet another year or so its a risk i don't want to take

Just contact embassy and reschedule its not that hard to do. But just know since you want to drag this ut to August you will have to get a new medical to enter the US more than likely.

8 months is a long time but I am sure you have your reasons. You need to get on the ball and ask to be reschedule now. Now they won;t say okay you have a June appointment. The embassy will only push you out to the next month. And most will only allow two reschedule.

I know I ent throw reschedulign and started at April rescheduled to July then settled in September.

i haven't did my medical yet or set anything yet i got the email 2 days ago..well i hope they approve me till june end or july, august even sep will work i have 3 months vacation then i will have my classes from mid sep.

    1. There is a time limit, it will be less than or equal to 6 months from the date the visa is issued. Visa validity is tied to when the medical exam was conducted.
    2. Won't matter what you ask since your studies are irrelevant to them in regards to visa issuing procedures.
    3. It is true that entering on or after your second anniversary will confer IR-1 status. The CBP officer will need to be informed and shown proof of when the wedding took place.

Don't bother asking the Embassy to customize a time limit, they won't give it to you. You may want to delay your interview to a timeframe that better suites you completing your studies.

Can i schedule/delay my interview till june 2015 ? also i heard that now a days most of the people are getting a 3 months visa from the date is it issued and not 6 months

Thank you for all the answers ryan

  6. Happy new year everyone sorry for wishing you all this late :P

My interview date is 24th Feb 2014 and i am kinda nervous on what to do.

A little background about me i am currently a bachelor student my wife is in USA,we were married in august 2013.I still have 1 and half year on my degree left so all the huslte of final year project starts this year beside i want to complete my degree from here (Pakistan).

I did read about the next steps after the interview about the conditional green card/permanent greencard and if i am revisiting again and again once i get into USA after POE.I have to make a re-entry permit or something. So i am quite nervous on what to do :(. Cause i plan to go once in my vacations till i complete my degree.

1- Since my interview is on 24th Feb,Ofcourse i am going to tell them about my studies situation but here is the confusing part once getting my visa what will be time limit or validity date of my visa?

2- Should i tell them/ask them i am in no rush on getting my visa or if i can be provided a time window till my vacation that is in summers(june-sept) to go to the states.Cause i don't want to mess up my studies and then revisit in vacations.

3- Following the Step 3 not only i will be able to visit states in my vacations but also i will be on my 2nd annisversary that means i will be able skip the step of conditional 2 years green card right ?

So should i ask them to provide me a time limit till the end august 2015 to make my first entry in the states or not ?

  7. Hello Friends,

I have been reading the vj discussions for quite some time now and finally decided to make my own timeline.

I am still waiting for my IV fees to become available, called yesterday and the guy on the phone confirmed that my DS-261 was finally reviewed and I should see the fees within 5 business days. I'm not sure if I should believe that? I haven't seen an email to confirm the review either.

    Don't know what to do.

when did ya send the Aos package ? and did it got reviewed yet ?

  8. my wife is going to call NVC tomorrow because they told her my AOS pacakge will be scanned to the system on 21 and you will invoiced IV fee by the 27th of July so far nothing. She even asked for the DS-261 it appears to be completed whethers its accepted or not ? they replied by saying it will be accepted by 21st July :/

i mean seriously why is it taking so long just to scan my AOS Package into their system.I am kind of worried now that it got lost or something :'(

  9. 27th July!! That's crazy! Where did their '30 days' response go? God pleaseee don't turn Nvc into Uscis! Been there done that :( u should be expecting it in 3 4 days. Keep us updated!

i know right it usually takes 3-4 days :(. i will keep u updated samreen

OMG, 27 of July? That's crazy. I cannot believe NVC has been such a lazy one like USCIS.

I hope all of us waiting for IV invoice will hear a good news soon!

they really are turning into USCIS...i have to wait for a month for the IV to be invoiced then another month for the checklist if i get any or for the case to get completed :(.

  10. hi guys sorry for the late update on my case ..i am not really an active guy on vj.Anyways so i submitted my AOS package last week so i am guessing it's gonna take a week till its scanned into the system.Yesterday i called NVC to ask them about IV,why it hasn't been invoiced. They told me you will be invoiced on 27th july.

Is this normal or i am the only one who is getting this await time?
