Our situation is like many on here but a little more complicated.
-My wife re-entered the country in May and we married shortly after.
-She received her green card in November.
-She works from home with a company that is based out of Japan.
What options do we have as far as filing taxes? I know I can file jointly or married but filing separately but which would be better given our situation. Also as far as her income, how much does she need to report? Everything for the entire year? Since she came to the US? Since she got her green card? Or not at all since the company is based outside of the US?
We're gonna consult with a professional but I thought I'd get some extra opinions.
