  1. I'm not sure how to proceed - just strange to get a totally different answer. I wonder if it has to do with the service center (I'm Vermont, looks like you guys are CSC). I'll give them a call, but I feel like I already know what they're going to say (file an I-90). I could also just try and submit the request again in the hopes of getting a different officer to respond? There's no way to respond to the email unfortunately.

I have an I-90 filed already, but that's not what they're asking me to do. I have to mail my card with a brief letter describing the issue to a specific officer/desk/whatever located within CSC and also request an expedite based on their error. I have biometrics scheduled for the I-90 I filed, but I will not be going to them now. Seems like the easiest way to "withdraw" :)

This really is great news! I'm also still waiting on a response to my service request - by the way, where do you guys see the status of your service request? I've been checking my USCIS account, but there's no mention of that e-request anywhere.

    Another follow-up:

I just got an email from the e-request that I sent. It says there that they will look into my file and send a new PRC if they see proof that my request (i.e. to correct the residence since and expiration dates) has been approved. It also said there that I can use my current PRC as it is valid.

I am not sure if the PRC they were pertaining to is the 2-year or 10-year card, but either way, it looks like I am covered.

This gives me hope that we may not have to go the I-90 route. Would be great if they notice the error and just send us a new card. Curious - does their response say the PRC is valid for travel?

I'm still waiting for a response to my e-request...

They've done this to the most recent batch of green cards to come out of there. The decent thing for them to do would be to re-issue them all without us having to file the I-90, but I figure they may not. I filed that form and also the service request. I'm hoping they'll notice the sudden uptick in errors and rectify the situation.

I just filed the service request; Supposed to get an answer by April 29. I'm seeing just now in the monthly filer threads how widespread the issue is. I do think they should send us new cards - going the I-90 route and waiting another year (!) because of a mistake we didn't make doesn't seem right.

It's a legal document/identification card with the incorrect information.  Using the card as proof of status when filing for naturalization later on or renewing your 10-year GC later on, or even on-hand accurate proof of when you were approved of LPR status should any legal/immigration/criminal issue arise in the future----- not getting your GC card reissued now with the correct info as your main piece of US-based identification when you initially became a LPR can come back to haunt you.

It's irritating to deal with, no doubt---but at least you won't have to pay a fee for USCIS to correct their own mistake.

Do you guys think it's ok to use the card for travel? I have a trip coming up in a few months, but wouldn't want to use it if it causes issues coming back.

  5. Hi everyone,

We successfully removed the conditions on my green card and got the new card in the mail yesterday. Unfortunately USCIS got the "resident since" date wrong - the date printed on my card is from last week (the same day they approved the card). However, the correct date would be from almost 3 years ago when the conditional green card first was approved.

What's the best way to fix this mistake? It seems I can file an I-90 (which would take another year!!), but I've also seen I can file an online service request for a typographical error (https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/Intro.do). I haven't found much info regarding the latter. Does anyone have any experience with a service request regarding a typographical error?

On the other hand, would there be harm in not doing anything and just keeping the card? Can I travel with the card? Thanks for any insights!

  6. Question for everyone at Federal Plaza. What room is mentioned on your interview notice? Our room number is 4-437. I was just reading some articles to prepare for the interview when I found this one: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/immigration-fraud-agency-green-card-marriages-real-article-1.1064417 The article says people in room 437 are waiting for their Stokes interview!! :o I'm probably overreacting because our letter says absolutely nothing about Stokes interview and it's probably just the waiting room for everyone. Still curious about your interview notice!

  7. I was so surprised to hear that they separated you, as well, MrsHopkins. I'm glad it worked out for you though! We will definitely be studying more tonight. And I've put together a whole binder full of evidence. We do have joint bank accounts and credit cards, but some of the other things, like utilities and car insurance are not joint, because it just hasn't made sense yet to do those things. But we have tons of pictures, we filed our taxes jointly, and he's on my health insurance, life insurance policies, etc. So I don't see how they could decide we weren't bona fide.

    Fingers crossed though!

Good luck!! I totally hear you about being nervous, but it looks like you have plenty of supporting documents, so I am sure you will be fine! :)

Let us know how it went!

  8. We just got our interview notification. Interview will be on May 22nd, finally!!! After 3 months of no updates. Our NOA date was December 9, so the interview will be about 5.5 months later. Looking at the timelines on here, that seems to be a pattern. I'm thinking that you guys who filed in late December, your interview will be mid-end June. Just my guess, but it seems realistic! It's good to know that they're working on it behind the scenes although we don't hear anything.

  9. Thanks, znl!

    Things like:

    What is his bank

    About his military career

    Who pays rent

    Who bought the furniture

Who are these people on the picture

Why didn't you bring your savings from your country

Did you look for a house to buy

    Who lives at your house

    Did you live here before

Why did you get married so fast

Why did you buy a new car

Does your hubby make payments on his car

How much of rent does each of you pay

Etc.. She asked much more to him. She didn't ask me where we met, how was our wedding, where we worked, but she asked all that to him.

Congrats MrsHopkins!! Interesting that they separated you... I think they way they handle it really depends on the local office. Did you bring additional evidence and did they want to see anything? Or just asked questions?

  10. I have a feeling its something to do with New York, there are so many applicants in New York it seems the local offices get over loaded and can not cope, Also it seems like one of the local centers in NY has been closed for a few months which will also be delaying things. If you do make an inquiry kindly update us on the outcome.

P.S Some of the January filers have gotten their interview dates as well

    Hi mayfield,

I also think New York is slower than some other offices. I think you're right in that it probably has to do with the number of applications they receive here... Looking at the timelines, it seems like New Yorkers who filed in October are having their interviews in March and April. I'm a little surprised, not very many New Yorkers seem to be on visajourney! I was hoping to have our interview in May, but it seems more like June... We will see!

  11. Hi Mayfield,

I actually just got a change on my case, it says card has been mailed on Feb 27th. I didn't receive a tracking number though. You're right, it's about 10 days from card in production. Let's see!

You should see the change to 'card mailed', but if you don't just wait for it in the mail.

Not everyone gets all of the notices and changes on the case status page!

You should get a separate update saying that USPS picked up your case. I didn't get a tracking number until that update.

On a different note, my EAD suddenly showed up in my mailbox today. I don't know if it had to do with me calling USPS, but there wasn't a tracking update for 8 days. Ironically the tracking still says "on time - expected delivery date February 23" It's really pretty useless.

  12. I can't believe the terrible luck we've had with the postal service. First they lost our biometrics appointment. Now the USPS tracking says the EAD card was delivered on Tuesday, the 24th, and we never got it. So the postman gave our EAD priority mail package to someone else I guess. We were hoping maybe it went to a neighbor's mailbox and that someone might drop it off, but nothing. So now I get to call USPS today to complain. Fortunately, husband doesn't have a job lined up yet, so we have some time, but now I'm terrified that the Green Card will go missing in the mail too!

Similar situation here. My EAD was mailed last Friday and I got a tracking number, but when I check the status, there has been no update since the 20th (last status: letter departed Knoxville sorting facility). I'm worried that USPS lost my letter!! I called them yesterday and they opened an inquiry, so we will see what happens.

  13. adjusting from H1-B,

    with a prior F-1

that's the type of 'prior' I'm trying to refer to.

as to the ex-wife, well, it may or may not be an issue

but they have to look hard at these types of AOS,

as it's seeming 'just another way' to stay in the USA.

A supervisor has to review all. Time and Timing? Unknown. The portion of the Dallas office (in Irving) that I was dealing with , wasn't the portion you two are dealing with. That place is huge.

as to 'not turning on the computer' - look - if the A-File was in front of him, then no need to turn on the computer.

But I really think it's going to be the totality of the circumstances, not just his current status that he's adjusting out of .

I wish I could be more specific, but I am not meshed into the brain of the adjudicating supervisor - please cut me a wee bit o slack, aye?

In general terms, based on my personal experience, I absolutely hate and loathe the Dallas Field Office in Irving, TX. personal experience listed on my profile page. <EOM>

May I ask why you think adjusting from H-1B with a prior F-1 makes this a more complicated case? The H-1B already has dual intent and I would imagine it's easier to do AOS from H-1B than from other visas. I would agree and say it's more likely that it has to do with the petitioner's sponsor history...

  14. Hi guys,

My status changed to "ready to be scheduled for an interview" on December 17. There is the general description:

"As of December 17, 2014, we are ready to schedule your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status..."

However, originally the message said I should receive my interview notice until January 16, if not, I should contact them. This part of the message has disappeared and it only says:

"We will schedule your interview and send you a notice" without referring to any deadline. Is if fine? And what has it been changed?

    Thanks

My status says the same. Ready to be scheduled for an interview, as of January 13. No mention about another date or deadline that we should receive the notice by.

  15. My case status changed to ready to schedule an interview. .. tht was fast .. anyone status Changed to this?

    Same here.

As of January 13, 2015, we are ready to schedule your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSCxxx, for an interview. We will schedule your interview and send you a notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

It doesn't say though when we can expect the interview notice. Has anyone else's changed too?

  16. Had an odd situation two days ago. USCIS received the package which we sent via Express Mail. The check was cashed almost immediately (!!)....then I go up to 16 texts and 16 emails notifying me of receipt with three different MSC numbers....

I called and spoke with a Tier 2 Officer. They assign different numbers to each document eg I-485, I-131 and the EAD application. He told me the GC would take a year LOL.

The EAD and the Travel Doc takes three months....

    Let the waiting begin.....

Same here - I got 30 (!!) text messages and 30 emails on Wednesday evening. They just wouldn't stop coming. They also cashed the check on Wednesday.

A year seems long to me... we were hoping more around 6 months to get the GC.

  17. Hi,

I am currently on OPT with an expiration date of June 30, 2014 and my company is going to sponsor me for an H1b in April. After my H1b petition is filed, am I still allowed to travel and will be able to come back without problems? I know that I cannot travel during the cap-gap period from June-October, but what about the time before June? I plan on traveling home in either April or May. Wondering if that would be too risky because it is too close to the OPT expiration date.

    Thanks for your help!
