  1. Thanks for the reply. Basically we just want coverage for me in case of emergency until Sept 1st. Since we are tight on fnances right now (Im waiting for my EAD and not working) we thought it would be better just to get "just in case" insurance instead of spending an extra 400 this summer on increased premiums.

If I want emergency insurance, is it better to go for catastrophic insurance that is usually available to people in the US? Initially I was thinking of the travelers' insurance but then I read that K1s are ineligible for that.

Thanks again for your help :)

  2. Hello everyone

I have read quite a few threads related to health insurance while adjusting your status from K1 holder to permanent resident. However, none of the conversations seem to really apply to my circumstances.

    Here is the data :

I have entered the USA, june 17th

    Got married july 1st

Applied for AOS, EAD... july 8th

Requested SSN july 13th --> have a two week waiting period before obtaining number.

Living in NY state ( Brooklyn)

My wife is intending to take me under her health insurance. However, she is changing jobs ( and health insurance company ) this summer. For all practical purposes, it does not make sense for her to add me to her health insurance before she is under the new plan ( september 1st)

However, out of precaution, I would like to be covered for emergencies ASAP. I have read that traveller's insurance does not apply to K1 visa holder for a number of reasons.

    Could you confirm?

I have come across a couple of website such as American Visitor Insurance https://www.americanvisitorinsurance.com/visa-insurance/fiancee.asp

that seem to offer adapted plans for a reasonable price. Please let me know if you think this is the way to go.

Thank you so much for your help

    Best

    Iggy

  3. Hi everyone,

Filling out our AOS paperwork today and I have lots of questions about this I-864 form. I will be sponsoring my husband alone (no co-sponsor) and I am wondering what I should do in regards to tax transcripts. I have transcripts and full returns for the past four years, but I am unsure of what to send in. My income for 2014 is well beyond the requirement. My income for 2013 is also beyond the requirement (although my income for 2014 is nearly 3x as much) and my income for 2012 is 0 because of foreign earnd income.

Is it better for me to just send in 2014 since I have earned the most this year? Or is it better to send in all 3 years even though my earnings are signficantly less? I don't know if my application will be stronger with just my income for last year We really don't want a RFE (not that anyone ever does!) and I am unsure of what to send in.

    Thanks so much!

  4. HI everyone,

We just got married and would like to fill out our AOS paperwork asap to get the application in for my husbad's EAD card. I am about to fill out the I-864 and I am unsure if I should use my maiden or married name. There is no space on the form for me to put both my married and married name so I am assuming I need to choose one. All my evidence (tax transcripts, pay stubs, and letter from employer) are under my maiden name. I will be changing my name with the Social Security office shortly, but not until after we send in this paperwork.

Has anyone been through this? Which name did you put down?

    Thanks so much!

    Best,

    Lauren

  5. Hi everyone,

I have a very similar question. We just got married and are going to file AOS paperwork soon. I am the USC and am taking my husband\s name. I am unsure of what to do with the affidavit of support forms because there is no space for a maiden name. Do I put my married name even though all of my tax documents and supporting evidence are in my maiden name?

    Thank you!!

  6. Hello everyone,

Just wanted to thank the community for all the useful information posted on the site that makes life much easier for preparing visa applications!

Here is a few things I would like to say about visa interview in Paris:

-Things were really easy, came in and out within 3 hours, most of it waiting,

The consulate officer only requested a few documents (birth certificates/ passport pics) out of the hundred of pages I had with me ,

in other words ( and it might be specific to our case because we had a lot of documents compiled in the original application), the embassy didn't request any aditional proof of relationship of any kind ( even gave me back pictures, lol)

    Most importantly, there didn't accept the financial documents I was carrying around. According to the officer, the rules have changed and they do not process them anymore but might be useful to have them while travelling to the US;

They asked me only a couple of general questions ( I was expecting hundreds) before telling me that the interview went well and should expect the visa within a couple of weeks!!! \o/

BTW: just in case this information was not out there yet, they have photobooths for US style pictures inside the embassy (running out of time after all this time waiting, really?)

    Cheers,

    Igor and Lauren

  7. Hi everyone!

I am wondering if someone can tell me what "appointment letter" they ask for when they call you up the first time at the interview. We booked our appointment without receiving our physical P3 (our ceac status says ready) and I am getting worried that we need the physical letter now! Can anyone confirm if we do or do not need this? We have all other papers/ confirmations with us. Our interview is Thursday so I'm getting a little nervous!!

    Thank you!!

  8. Hi everyone,

We have scheduled our interview for the 28th although we have not received our packet 3 checklist yet. On the interview confirmation page it says to bring the letter from the consulate, which I am assuming is the packet 3 checklist. Can anyone tell me if the embassy collected the p3 checklist when you had your interview? We have all the required info, DS-160, payment confirmation, etc. and we probably will receive the packet before our interview (our status changed to ready on May 7) but I just want to double check if this is a mandatory document for the interview.

    Thanks :)

  9. Hello everyone

I am in the process of filling up the DS 160 online. I have bumped into an issue regarding work experience.

The online form won't let me add more than 3 previous experience .I don't think it has to do with the browser (tried Firefox and Chrome),nor with the saving option (I saved and returned to the page, refreshed the page.. to no avail).

Please tell me, has anyone experienced the same problem before (the form only takes 3 previous work experience)?

In which case, am I right in thinking I should just indicate the most recent ones?

Otherwise, any help / advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Igor

  10. Hi everyone!

We just received notice that our application is in transit from the NVC to the Embassy. I just wanted to see if anyone scheduled their interview online lately and saw the availability for May/June interview dates.

Also, does one need to wait for packet 3 in order to schedule an interview online or can we just fill out the DS-160 and schedule once we see that our status is "ready" on the NVC website (I believe that a status of ready indicates that the embassy has received our petition). We already know everything we will need to bring to the embassy and we would like to schedule the medical and interview asap! Does anyone know if there a reason why you must wait to receive Packet 3 before scheduling an interview?

Thanks so much! Wishing you all luck on your "visa journeys" :)

  11. I was able to get through this morning! I called exactly at 7 AM when they opened and was on hold for around 40 minutes. My case was also sent there on the 13th (according to USCIS) and they received it on 4/20. They haven't assigned it a number yet so I will call back in a few days. I think the secret might be calling right at 7. I tried calling them late at night but that hasn't worked for me. Good luck!
