  1. Good day fellow VJers,

I have a question. My husband (and I) are currently putting together the documents for the IV package. In going through the steps both on the NVC website and that created by Salin (NV Process and updated November 14, 2014), I notice a difference.

Step 7 - Gather IV Package (VJwiki)

The IV package is all about the beneficiary.

Don't forget, it's highly recommended you write your case number on the top right of ALL documents (except the bar-coded cover sheet and the cover letter). The writing of the case number on documents is in case NVC misplaces one of them. If it has the case number written on it, it has a much better chance of being reunited with the case.

Note: it is currently normal for it to show as N/A under affidavit of support documents and civil documents on the CEAC site. It's assumed NVC will use this feature in the future, but currently doesn't display anything.

    Generally, the following is needed:

-Bar-coded cover sheet from payment portal

    -Cover letter (optional)

    • You can find a sample cover letter I wrote here [22]

-Two passport-style photographs (2" x 2") of beneficiary (on the back, write: beneficiary's full name, date of birth, and case number)

-Copy of bio-data page of beneficiary's unexpired passport

    -Photocopy of beneficiary's birth certificate

    -Photocopy of marriage certificate

    -Photocopy of police certificate(s)

    NVC website says

    Step 5: Collect Supporting Documents

After you collect your financial forms and supporting financial evidence, you and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect original or certified copies of civil documents to support your visa application.

The original civil documents must be issued by an appropriate authority.

In addition to the original civil documents, you must also provide a photocopy of each civil document.

My husband and I decided to send both the original as well as a photocopy of the documents. I am asking this question here to make sure we are on the right track, because we prefer to know that we assemble the packages correctly before we send them off, rather than to get a checklist later on.

Anyone came across this stumbling block???

    Thanks

You don't have to send originals--I wouldn't. I've read on here stories about the NVC losing documents. You have the option of sending in either the originals or the certified copies, and I think it is wiser to send in the certified copies. You have to go to the appropriate govermnmental agency and have them certify that the photocopies are accurate.

We did certified copies for the IV packet, and they were accepted.

  2. Saylin, if you allow me,for peace of mind purpose, I'd like to ask for people who has their last scan dates between October 7 and 10 to just reply here. I've looked at your new 2014 spreadsheet and there's nobody there with those dates, so I wonder that's why this week will be apparently quiet for us here at VJ (few data to check the CCs..) and so we can breathe and believe tha people at NVC are working, even if we can't "feel" it.

Thank you and people from 7 to 10 Oct scan dates please show up. :)

I'm October 8. As soon as I find out anything, I'll post it here.

  3. Hi, I talked with someone at the NVC with this same question a couple of days ago.

After the AOS fee appears as paid, you can send in the AOS (financial) documents.

Then, after they approve your DS-261 (Choice of Agent), you can pay the IV fee. After the IV fee appears as paid, you can fill out the DS-260 form and then send out the Supporting documents.

However, you can also send in the AOS documents and the Supporting documents together. According to the NVC agent, the time frame is the same, no matter if you send them together or separate. The easiest way is to send them all together.

  4. I'm in the opposite situation..I'm from the US but I've been living in Argentina five years.

It IS hard to make friends in new cultures. Like someone said above, it's just the reality of the situation... and it's hard. Culture shock appears where you least expect it. You know to brace yourself for the big differences, but it's the subtleties that can cause homesickness.

Finding other Brit expats will help, or people that have similar interests. i've heard that meetup.com is a good place to start.

  5. Hola Catalina,

    Bendiciones, Laura

  6. I am filing from Argentina. I couldn't figure out a way to send a check or money order from here, and so I first send the package to my parents, and they made wrote a check from their US account and then sent it on the Chicago. It was accepted no problem. I'm going to pay them back when I get home, having them pay was just the safest bet.

and yes, a sub-forum for people filing from abroad would be great!

  7. Hello, does anyone know how to post a money order from Argentina? With all of the restrictions on dollar exchanges, I'm not sure how to do it. I am also here in Argentina, but I have a bank account in the USA. From what I understant, I need to send a money order from my bank account in Argentina to Homeland Security for total of USD420. Western Union's limit is far below that. I do not have my checkbook with me.

I am the petitioner, a US citizen, who has lived in Buenos Aires for almost five years, my husband is Argentine. Thanks for any information about this.
