  1. Shouldn't be any problems as long as the paperwork is in order and the packet is unopened.

He won't receive scrutiny like if he were coming here on a visitor visa. He's coming to immigrate here and has the proper visa for that purpose.

That's very true, I constantly remind him that we have nothing to hide and the approved visa is in our hands. It's just a matter of remaining calm and having the documents prepared (and unopened!) He got nervous as soon as he found out that the officers have the final decision of whether he can enter the USA or not. I think he fears they will deny him just because they're not in a good mood that day and for no apparent reason.

  2. Hi everyone! We received our visa and passport yesterday and my fiance is flying home this week. We're so excited but he's also nervous about going through immigration. It's his first time flying so that alone is a little nerve wracking. I told him all the documents he needs are 1) his passport with the K1 visa inside and 2) the sealed envelope. Am I missing anything??

I know port of entry wait times can widely vary between people, but I would love to hear your/your fiance's experience arriving in the USA for the first time. How long did it take you to get through immigration? Did the officers ask you any questions or just go through the packet? Did you miss any flights because of wait times?

    Thank you!

  3. I was curious about this myself... I am in a slightly different situation since we have been in administrative processing since August. After 7 months, they requested new medicals mid-march, which were completed at the end of march and received by the embassy on April 2nd. We thought that it would be a couple of weeks before we heard from the embassy requesting the passports, but, it was almost 4 weeks, and they finally sent a request yesterday for my fiancé to send his and his daughters passports. He will be sending the passports via cargo express on Wednesday... does anyone have any idea how long it could take to get the visas back? I'm not getting my hopes up, because every step has ended up taking longer than we expected... but, a round about idea would be nice :)

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear how long you've been in AP and how stressful all this waiting must be for you guys! I wish I could help you somehow. :( It's so hard to know how long it will be since it's different for everyone.

An update for us - we FINALLY received notice from Cargo Expreso yesterday that our visa was ready for pickup! Praise God!! We are so relieved and grateful. My fiance picked it up yesterday and we have our plane ticket for his flight home. :)

  4. Hi! Please help us, anyone who can give me a timeline of how long it took to receive your visa after the status changed to issued.

Our visa was issued April 16, 2014. We chose to have our package delivered to Cargo Expreso, a courier service. My fiancé went to Cargo the 23rd and 25th of April to pick it up, but it hasn't been there. The lady at the desk worried my fiancé when she said it should be here by now and that we better contact the embassy. So that's exactly what I've been doing, but I haven't heard back yet.

I know it's been less than 10 business days, but it worried me even more when I checked our passport status over the phone and it said it was on the way to the embassy. On the way to the embassy?! I'm praying that was a glitch :((

Any help or comfort that our visa will come soon?? We're trying so hard to remain hopeful and trust God's timing! Thank you for any help!

  5. Hi everyone, my fiancé and I are getting more and more anxious as each day goes by. Any reassurance is much welcomed!

Our visa was issued April 16, 2014. The El Salvador embassy confirmed this with us when I sent them an inquiry a few days ago. However, my fiancé went to Cargo Expreso yesterday to pick it up and our visa wasn't there. The lady at the desk worried my fiancé when she said it should be here by now and that we better contact the embassy. So that's exactly what I did, but haven't heard back yet.

I know it's been less than 10 days, but it worried me even more when I checked our passport status over the phone today and it said it was on the way to the embassy. On the way there?! I'm praying that's a glitch :(

    Please, any help??

  6. Hi guys congrats we have been stuck in AP for 5 weeks now. Did they ever tell you at the interview why they were putting you in AP cause they didnt tell us and we are devestated here wondering if we will get approved

Hey liz&ivan, I'm so sorry you guys are currently stuck in AP, it's a frustrating phase! :( Are you guys going through the El Salvador embassy like us or another country?

We were missing one document at the interview, but the officer said it was no big deal and we would get our visa in 2 weeks once we sent them the missing document. He never said we were put in administrative processing, he approved us and gave us instructions on how to receive our visa. But from what I've read, everyone goes into AP after the interview, even if you were approved. It's just a necessary phase for when they prepare your visa. The frustrating part is how much it varies per case and per country, so there's no real timeline of how long it can be.

Were you two missing any documents like us and did they keep your fiancé's passport?

  7. Hi guys, I posted this in the Mexico/Latin America sub-forum since my fiance and I are in El Salvador, but I think anyone in any country can help us with this. So I'm sorry for double posting!

Our status changed from AP to ISSUED on April 16, 2014. We are so overjoyed since we were stuck in AP for almost 6 weeks! Our status now says. "Your visa is in final processing. If you have not received it in more than 10 working days, please see the webpage for contact information of the embassy or consulate where you submitted your application."

But is that the FINAL update that people receive before their visa is delivered to them?? Shouldn't we be getting a tracking number from the embassy? I read somewhere that there's another issued status that says "your visa has been printed". Should we be waiting for that update before we even expect an email confirmation from the embassy?

We're just very confused on what we're waiting for and when our visa is truly going to arrive. Thanks so much for any help!!

  8. Hi guys, just wanted to connect with anyone else who's currently or recently been in AP in El Salvador.

My fiancé and I have been in AP for almost 3 weeks now. We were approved on March 12, 2014 but we were missing the document that proves he's single. Interviewer said it was no big deal & we'd have our visa in no more than 2 weeks once they received that document. (My fiancé sent it the very next day & embassy confirmed that they received it.)

Email exchanges with the consular section have been no help of course. Anyone in El Salvador in the same boat as us? We're very anxious & praying we don't have to wait for months like some couples.

  10. My fiancé and I are currently in AP with the San Salvador embassy :( It's encouraging to hear that you guys were eventually issued the visa! I know your post was over a month ago & you might not see this, but if you do, can you please answer a few questions for me?

    - Did you email the consular section of the embassy during AP or just wait it out?

    - Did they email you when the visa was issued? Or did you find out from CEAC?

    Thank you for any help!

  11. Thank you both for the information! My fiancé and I would truly still be in the dark with all of this without your help.

I emailed a consulate officer at the US embassy in El Salvador yesterday, asking for the next packet to be emailed to us. They responded within a day and said they needed our DS-160 confirmation page emailed to them first. I did that and they responded again within 2 hours, giving us our information to set up an interview.

And my fiancé just told me this afternoon that he FINALLY received documents in the mail from the embassy, what we've been waiting for the last 5 weeks.

I paid for our visa interview last night via pay pal, on ustraveldocs.com. $240. Had a moment of panic when I couldn't find the "MRV receipt number" to confirm I paid for it, which is how you set an interview. I called a few numbers for help and the gal on the phone said it's my "transaction ID" on pay pal, and I just have to wait 1 business day for it to work. Whew. I'm praying it works tonight when I get home.

Thank you once again for the help!

  12. Thank you for the links, Jay-Kay. I appreciate the response!

I've read all of those links before except for the last one, where you register to pay the visa fee and schedule an interview. Forgive me for still not understanding, but it's OUR responsibility to schedule an interview??

I tried to register as a new user but it said "Your request cannot be processed at this time. The site administrator has been alerted." Hmmm :(

  13. Hi everyone, I've been following this site since the beginning and it's been SUPER helpful for me and my fiance. He lives in El Salvador and we're so ready to have him home. We're currently stuck and don't know what to do! Please, please, please help us if you can. I'll try to keep this short.

    1. We received our NOA2 on December 20, 2013.

    2. We completed form DS-160 on January 10, 2014, as the approval letter asked us to do.

    3. And now we're lost!

It's been 5 weeks since our NOA2 and we haven't heard anything. I've read on here that Packet 3 (what we're currently waiting for) can take forever to be sent or NEVER arrives. So I emailed a consulate in El Salvador today asking it to be sent to our email. I'm praying I get a response!

What's the next step?? Do we MAIL the confirmation page of the DS-160 to the US embassy in El Salvador? How do we keep moving forward to the medical exam and interview process?

    Thank you in advance!

    Shelby
