I believe officially they discourage being "extremely casual" (i.e. shorts and flip flop) but other than that it's up to you.
Personally I will probably wear "business casual" (pants and a nice shirt and dress shoes). I would feel weird wearing a suit, since I don't normally wear suits.
But I do see some people wearing suits. Like I said, it's a matter of personal taste.
Thanks for the reply. I typically wear suits for work so I wore one today. And speaking of- I am now officially a US citizen! If someone could update me to red that would be great.
Experience at Baltimore office :got there and waited for people to gather. At first you're sitting with everyone and then they call all the applicants to submit the green card and the oath notice. Important - make sure the questionnaire is filled out or else they will send you to the back of the line. Once everyone is seated they show a couple of videos. We say the pledge and oath of allegiance. Sing the star spangled banner. Watch America the beautiful and then they call everyone by name to collect the naturalization certificate. They also had a piece in between where they had everyone stand to show which country they represented. 78 naturalized citizens from 41 countries. God bless America and God bless us all. Good luck to everyone !

What are folks typically wearing to the oath ceremony. Is it full formal like suit for men or business casual or smart casual?

Hello congratulations, thank you for sharing your experience,
Did they ask the question or ask fro proof of child support payments if any?
Thanks! In my case, neither of us were married prior to our current marriage and we don't have any kids from any other relationships so we had no prior alimony or child support to worry about. She asked the question and I said "No" and we moved on from there. I would imagine though if that was the case, it would be a good idea to have evidence or documentation of any of those. If you are thinking whether you should or should not take something as evidence - take it anyway. It's better to have it than not.

Congratulations on your interview!
Can you please tell me, how long did it take for them to reschedule your interview? Did you send out the rescheduling notice on March 14th? Or did you do this earlier than that?
Thanks
Hi - Well in my case it was an involuntary reschedule due to natural weather calamity so I didn't have to submit anything. They rescheduled me automatically. My original interview was march 14th. On march 16th, they updated the status online to say that a new interview date has been scheduled and to expect the letter in mail. I didn't get the letter until the 25th of march though so about ten days after they updated my status.
-
Hi everyone
It's been a while. A lot has happened and if someone could update my stats that would be great please! my timeline below. So originally my interview was supposed to be on Mar 14 but due to weather it was rescheduled. a timeline of events:
Baltimore field office
Feb 6th - in line for interview
Feb 7th - interview scheduled (for Mar 14th)
Mar 14th - interview rescheduled
March 25th - received updated interview letter (for apr 24th)
April 24th - interview date - Result - passed
Interview experience:
My appt was at 7.30 in the morning. The office hours were 7.30 and I got there at 7:10 and it was already open and they were letting people in. I got in went through security, got a ticket and waited for about 35-40 mins until they called my name and took me to a room in the back for the interview. I had very nice and courteous lady who made the process smooth. We started off with the civics test. These were the 6 I got asked (didn't need to go past it) and it seemed to be on a piece of paper with 10 questions on there. She wrote the answers I said in front of her and would check it if correct or not right in front:
1. Who wrote the declaration of independence
2. Name 3 of the originally colonized states
3. Name one state that borders Mexico
4. What is the political affiliation of the current President
5. What are the two major political parties in the US
6. Who is the supreme commander in chief
After I answered all the questions she gave me a piece of paper and asked me to read "Who elects members of congress" and she asked me to write the answer "The people elect congress" (i nearly panicked that I almost forgot to spell the word "People" lol)
After that, she went started going over the N400 application. even though mine was the 5 years based application she still wanted to see my tax returns so heads up to anyone just in case. I am a male applicant and I had printed out one of those selective service letters which she really loved and thanked me for, so definitely do that, it saves time. She went over all the information - background, history, employment. I handed her updated travel plans since the petition was filed and changes to my employment since then. At the end she asked the long series of mandatory questions and finally she gave me the result- approved at which point I was quite relieved. I was frustrated that my original interview was pushed out 6 weeks and i had to cancel travel plans but it's done now. And now I join and wait for the oath ceremony letter to come in. I was hoping for same day oath but I guess they didn't have enough people today.
Will update as I get my oath letter in the mail. I'm hoping soon

rana300. I noticed your GC is more than 5 years old- So technically you are eligible for Naturalization interview like today. I think those who file 90 days before their due ceremony, don't get INLINE status until they are just 1 month behind their 3 or 5 year ceremony. . This may be wrong too- cause i completed my 4 years 11 months yesterday and they haven't updated my status from FP Schedule to INLINE.
. As far as i know - They will always interview us after we have completed our due term on GC. I also didn't receive any notification ( Email/Text) for FP appointment, despite i sent that E-notification form- But i did receive a text for case acceptance.
I think that's not consistent. I filed 90 days before and my 5 yr anniversary was in December. Still hasn't changed from fingerprint appt scheduled.
-
Hubby had his interview today and was "recommended for approval"!
They said we should get a letter within 2-3 weeks with the oath ceremony appointment. Woohoo!!!
Your field office did not have same day oath?
-
I just spoke to USCIS tier 2 this morning. Unfortunately he didn't have any update apart from the fact that I've done my fingerprinting and the process can take up to 12 months
very disappointing to hear. I finished fingerprinting on 10/27. No change on USCIS website either.
-
Hi folks. Please update my dates. I just received the biometric NOA. Fingerprint scheduled for 10/27. Question for you all - is there any merit in trying to do the fingerprint early? I am flying out in November and will be done with it way before but just wondering besides work or travel overlap why would one want to walk in early. Thanks.
-
Hi Everyone, so out of sheer curiosity I decided to check my case status and it says they mailed out my biometric notice! I didn't receive a text or email though. Will update after I get something
-
wow that is sooo messed up!
Good thing it wasn't your interview notice and you didn't like miss the appointment, I would've been so mad!
Glad you finally got it though.
You've got way more patience than I would've had!
Oh, it was tough being patient but unfortunately it's not my first rodeo with USCIS and USPS lol
I got a text message from phone number 505-969-6705 saying "your case NBC*..... is now updated. Check "My case status" at www.uscis.gov and when I logged in, it stated I was being sent a bio-metrics appointment notice.
Thanks, I'll know to look for something via text once I get to that point.
Sure.
I received an email notification when my application was first accepted, but that was it. I didn't receive my fingerprint appointment notification, but I found out about it before the letter arrived in the mail by using the receipt number assigned to me on form I-797 on the case status website (https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do).
Thanks, I'll keep checking on the website, although I know I have registered for notifications. I just wanted to make sure I have an alternative way of getting notifications if USPS fails me again!
-
Thanks for updating my info. for those of you who have signed up for text/email alerts, did you get a text/email about your fingerprints or was that just a letter in the mail? I'm hoping to get some kind of notification in the next 10 days or so.
-
Hi all,
Would someone please update my dates- I received my hard copy NOA in the mail yesterday. The receipt date is 9/29. Turns out the lady who delivers our mail was out sick and no one bothered delivering her route for nearly two weeks. Scary how the system works!
-
did you receive the text or email notification that they have receive your application
I did receive the text on 9/29. No further communication since then. Today is a holiday but hoping I see the boa copy in the mail this week. Was just curious if folks knew if this was normal timeline
-
I feel like it's been taking some time to receive my NOA in the mail. Is it normal to take this long to get the paper notice? I'm worried because it seems like a lot of folks have been getting their biometrics notice within 30 days of their checks being cashed so did you guys receive a text for biometrics as well? Did the status change for that online? Just curious.
-
received the text and email from USCIS about case being received today. will update with date once I receive NOA in mail. Have a good weekend everyone!
EDIT: forgot to mention, the case number begins with NBC so hopefully that's a good thing!
-
Hi folks. Congrats to all on the movement. Please add in my info to the list:
GC date- 12/25/2011
Sent- 09/27/2016 LEWISVILLE, TX
Cashd- credit card- 09/29/2016
Field office- Baltimore, MD
Haven't received a text or email yet so hopefully will get that soon and will update. The evening is still young.
Thanks and good luck to all!
-
Great News everyone. We finally received the green card in the mail on Monday. After 60 days I called Uscis and told them I haven't received it. Spoke to second level officer. He created a case and said we should receive it in 30 days and sure enough 3 and a half weeks later we received it! Good luck to all of you.
-
Why specifically between September and October 21?
When I cal USCIS and ask them about my case they say wait for 60 days if you don't get anything call us.
I emailed them and this was their response:
Thank you for your inquiry dated November 4, 2015, regarding the status of your USCIS Immigrant Fee.
We regret that we cannot provide receipt numbers by email. If you submitted payment for your Immigrant Fee after October 21, 2015, your receipt number was provided to you on the confirmation page. The Electronic Immigration System did not provide a receipt number upon payment of the USCIS Immigrant Fee between August 31, 2015 and October 21, 2015.
You should receive your green card (Permanent Resident Card) within 60 days of your entry into the United States or within 60 days after your USCIS Immigrant Fee is received (whichever occurred later). If you do not receive your green card within this time-frame, please submit a follow-up inquiry with the Customer Contact Center by clicking on the Contact Us link located at https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/contactus.
-
One month and no change ... still waiting
If you paid fee or had Poe between September and October 21 there is no way to track. Currently green card is taking between 60-90 days to be produced
-
You CANNOT track your green card if you paid your immigrant fee after August 31, 2015. They have changed the system. When you pay your immigrant visa fee on the ELIS website, it is supposed to offer you a chance to create an account in order to check status. Due to the new system there is no way to track this and the only way is to call USCIS and speak to a level 2 immigration officer.
-
Thank you. Some relatives of mine got it withing 3 weeks, but that was 2 years ago. It seems nowadays processing GC takes more time.
I got my green card in 3 weeks back in 2011. They changed their process August this year so now my wife and I are just waiting for hers to come through.

Just updated my status. I am officially a US citizen. I have been an active member of this community for the last 8 years. I started with H1 and got my Green card and eventually my wife got hers and now I'm a citizen. This ends my long but totally worth it Visajourney and I wish all of you the best of luck in this process. I've been through trying times and frustrating times sitting and waiting day by day for status updates and uscis letters. I will always appreciate the opportunity and privileges offered to me by this wonderful and great country. Take care my visajourney family and good luck with your lives!
