  1. Hi all, is anyone here familiar with Tampa, FL? If so, we're looking for the area where filipinos live. I've heard that Brandon has lots of filipinos. My wife is looking for work and something familiar from her home country. She needs some local filipino contacts, but we don't know where to look. We're not looking for filipino grocery stores or restaurants. Just someplace so she won't feel cut off from the Philippines. Thank you very much.

  2. The embassy should have given you an instruction sheet after the interview. If they didn't, simply google CFO. Cebu and Manila are your two choices. There are slots open only on specific dates. Make sure you answer the preliminary questions accurately or you'll not be able to register. Most importantly, bring everything they ask from you on the website. Missing documents could delay the seminar by weeks and could cost extra 1000s Php. for traveling and lodging.

Again, google CFO, commission of filipinos overseas, and make sure its the real website. Sorry to hear of your delays, but most appointments will be two to three weeks out due to no slots available.

  3. Hi all. My wife made it into the US on the 19th. When I submitted the IV, I opted to apply for a SSN. They said it would be mailed to the address they have on file within 3 weeks after she entered the US. I want to know how do I find out which address they have on file. Do I call the SSA or NVC? Thank you.

  4. Hi all, our interview in on 10/06/15. We got an email yesterday saying the documents we need to bring. Lo and behold, they just now informed us we need to bring a Certificate of no marriage. I am very confused. We have been married almost 2 years. I required a cenomar before I got married. I really don't understand. How can they expect me to get a cenomar 3 days before interview?

  5. Hello, my wife is leaving Malaysia to Philippines for good today. Her work permit expires today. She talked to an agent sometime ago. The agent told her all she needs is her plane ticket to leave if she's isn't planning on coming back.

Today, at the airport to Kuala Lumpur, an immigration officer says she might need clearance paperwork to leave. She has a multiple entry visa visit pass. I looked up online and it doesn't say much about leaving, only requirements for entry and work permit applications.

In the past she had to get clearance to leave because she was returning with a round trip ticket, but this time she has a one way ticket.

Does anyone have any insight with regards to the above? She is on a tight time-frame. Thank you so much for the help.

  6. Line 22 of a 1040 form is the Total Income line, or line 15 of a 1040A.

The tax info listed in Part 6 #13 is separate from current annual income(Part 6 #5). The current annual income does not have to match the income from the last tax return. That is your past year's income. Just take all the incomes and combine them. Use that amount and provide all the documents to prove the current income amount, such as letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs plus a pension benefits letter to prove the incomes. It also can help to provide bank statements to show how much income is deposited each month, especially when any of the income is non-taxable.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. We have already sent all the documents, copies, etc. NVC comes back saying 13.a.1 is incorrect. I get that. We entered the total income, including her Social Security. So line 15 on the 1040A is the income that doesn't include her untaxed social security. So her actual income is over twice of the amount that is listed on line 15.

According to the instructions, "...the line for gross (total) income on IRS forms 1040 and 1040A will be considered for determining income." So to me that means when determining if we meet the poverty guidelines, NVC won't take her income from social security into account because it isn't on that line. Am I missing something? Why would the NVC not use social security as income? Anyone know?

  7. Okay, so I did some careful reading along with my aunt (joint sponsor) plus a lot of digging. Surprisingly, the official I-864 instructions say nothing at all about item 13. I think the amount they use is on line 21 of the 1040A. My aunt's total income is 31,000+, but without Social security it falls below the Federal poverty line. I think I can use my income for 2015 and include paystubs and a letter from my employer. I didn't start this job until October 2014 so last year's income for me isn't enough. Can someone shed some light regarding these issues? Thank you.

  8. Wow, thank you. Why is not Social Security income not included? My sponsor's income, pension and social security is more than enough, but without social security it will fall below the poverty guidelines.

Do they use that item 13.a.1 to determine if we meet Federal poverty line x 1.25?

On 1040A, what line do I use then?

  9. Hi all, I have some confusion from this form. On the I-864, under part 6, it reads, "My total income(adjusted gross income on the IRS Form 1040EZ) as reported on my Federal tax returns for the most recent 3 years was:"

We filed 1040A for 2014. Why would they use the AGI for 1040EZ and not the 1040 and 1040A? What line or figure do I use? It says total income if is isn't the 1040EZ. Please help. RFE was sent saying my 13.a.1 was incorrect.

  10. Hello, my wife's interview date is next after the NVC processes the IV and AOS. We don't know it, yet. But that is not what this is about. We got married in the Philippines awhile back. We need to get her name changed to my last name. She is still in the Philippines and I have no idea how to help her with the name change. Are there people here who can help with advice on a name change? Thank you very much.

  11. My wife tells a friend of hers who married an American filed for the visa after we did and she is already in California! My wife tells me it is because they used an agent who omitted (lied) much information on the forms like previous countries of residence, work and education experience which made is simple for them.

I am having great difficulties with these forms. The truth is I really don't feel like being 100% honest anymore. The more I am honest the more difficult the NVC makes it for us. For instance, my wife was illegal for a time in Malaysia. She did not get legal until working there for a few years.

Okay, back to the IV application. It is asking for all previous work experience for the past 10 years. We don't have that. We're lucky if she remembers all the information from her last employer. She has never wrote anything down or kept records. She has secondary education so that will be easy to list, but the previous addresses and work experience from the last 10 years the application is asking for isn't possible to list.

The IV application is also asking in the spouse information if her spouse is immigrating to the USA with her. I am the spouse already in America. The IV application is confusing and leads one to omit stuff.

    Thank you for your time.

  12. Hello, I spoke with a rep at NVC and she told me that the tax year 2013 was a must. I don't have that so I decided on a joint sponsor. The joint sponsor will fill out a separate i-864 with all the required income statements. However, my question is, as the petitioner, how do I fill out part 6 sponsor's income and employment of the i-864? Am I supposed to include copies and documentation of my income even though the joint sponsor is taking that responsibility? Thank you.
