    Permanent residents with expiring or lost green cards must file an I-90 application for replacement. According to the USCIS, the current processing time for I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, is approximately 6 months.  However, it has been reported that some I-90 applications  are pending well beyond the 6 months.  The USCIS Field Operations Office attributes the delay to the fact that the National Benefits Center is understaffed and unable to handle the volume of I-90 applications. In an effort to resolve this issue, the USCIS has been forwarding applications to various local offices.

    In the meantime, individuals with a pending I-90 application who are in need of evidence of their permanent resident status should obtain a temporary I-551 stamp in their passport.  The stamp is obtained at a local USCIS office by scheduling an InfoPass appointment and may be valid for up to one year.

    To apply for an I-551 stamp, the following documentation is needed:

    §  Valid passport;

    §  InfoPass appointment notice (if applicable);

    §  Form I-90 receipt notice;

    §  Proof of residence within the jurisdiction of the USCIS office;

    §  Copy of expired/lost green card (if available);

    §  Documents evidencing the need for the I-551 stamp, if request is based on an emergency walk-in (i.e. flight itinerary, doctor’s letter or death certificate, along with evidence of the relationship to an ill or deceased relative; company letter if emergency travel is work-related, etc.);

    §  Copy of date-stamped ASC appointment notice evidencing biometrics capture (if applicable).

    The USCIS will typically issue the I-551 stamp with a validity period of 6 to 12 months. However, if the applicant’s passport expires prior to that time, the stamp will likely reflect the expiration date of the passport. Additionally, if biometrics have not yet been captured for the pending I-90, the office might further limit the validity period of the stamp to a period of 30 to 60 days.

    Evidence of permanent resident status is essential for work, travel, or to obtain a state issued driver’s license. Therefore, if you have an I-90 application pending, you should obtain an I-551 stamp to avoid issues related to the above mentioned matters.

    Hi, saw this post. I have my schedule for the infopass next week & I didn't know that we have to apply for I-90 for my expiring GC. actually no idea of that. Also when I scheduled my infopass the only requirement stated in their site was Valid ID, copy of the appointment letter & needed documents for my pending application.

  2. I used this sequence when im calling USCIS 1-800-375-5283

    1. Press 1 for english

    2. Press 2 immediately

    3. After hearing a recorded message press 2 again

    4. After hearing another recording press 2 again until you hear a recording that says "Please wait for an agent"

    Once you speak with a live agent give your case number then state your reason on why you call..

    Taray tarayan ang lola mo maam kasi kailangan....ayaw ako bigyan pero yung iba nga mga illegal nag drive...

    Thanx sis, just called but the SAVE verification inquiry is only for the agency,, d daw pwd ung applicant mismo magtanong kasi case sensitive daw un,, can't do anything so wait na lng ulit talaga

  3. I applied for a DL here in Myrtle Beach but sad to say they wont honor my Philippine Drivers License and they wanted me to get a learners permit and hold it for 6 months before I can get a license. I vented out and was very frustrated and even spoke with the supervisor. Told her, the whole experience in migrating to the US was already frustrating and here comes I went thru the wire and follow all immigration laws just to be denied in getting a license so I can drive and work? But well as we all know they just dont care.

    Well I told the supervisor, there are drivers on the road who arent possess a drivers license but they are also illegal and yet they were not apprehended so you are pushing me to a wall now that I cant move instead to fight. So I will take my chances and also drive. See you on the road. Bye.

    Di ba ang taray ko...walk out and beauty ni mama...hahahaahaha kakaloka ko sila rito

    ang gara sis,,, taray!! haha :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

  4. May I know what happen to your DL? When i applied for my DL here in SC they dont honor my PH drivers license and I have to get a learners permit and hold it for 6 months.

    So I didnt apply for one and has been looking for a way now to get a license.

    Nako 8 oclock at Tang colored flavor yan te talaga...kakaloka..

    tsismis nga tayo tawagan kita sa phone...

    mmangisay, went to the DMV to apply for a Dl, but since they can't verify in their computer for my SAVE Verification the lady told me to wait for 3 days,, then i've been calling them, the call center told me today its still on 2nd stage verification process & may take up to 20 days or more to be in their system, so i have to wait again.

    are you planning on applying for a DL or u already hav one?

  5. Hello Everyone.

    My Greencard arrived today in the mail. I and my wife are extremely happy. This journey has been emotional and expensive but at the end of the day, this is what we promised ourselves to do for love.

    I wish everyone here success in their process and remember......love is truly the answer.

    Congratulations to you both. We're also waiting for my GC, currents status says USCIS already mailed it to me today. Hopefully will have it this week. Cheers to us!! :jest::dance::thumbs::dancing:

  6. Do you guys think instead of printing pictures showing them from an iphone or iPad is a bad idea?????

    I remember for biometrics they don't allow you to bring your purse, phone etc inside so I'm wondering about that.

    I was going to use the iPhone App free prints, you can print 80 pictures for free every month just paying for shipping, I had already over 120 selected and when I went to order them today I realized they won't be on time for next week :( since its 7 BUSINESS day.....

    Has anyone done it or eveybody brings them in paper???

    No electronics is allowed inside the USCIS office,,, so tchnically u cant bring your iphone or ipad. It would be better to take printed picture because some IO take pictures from you. Mine the IO almost took all pictures from my photo album. You can go to Walmart, CVS, target or Walgreen to print your pictures will only take you an hour to print it.

  7. Congrats!!! :dancing: :joy: :)

    I'm sure you will get the card very soon since it already changed to being produced.

    What kind of questions did she asked you two????

    Interviewer just asked question bout us,, like how & when we've met,, travels together,, my travel to US, His vacation to Phil, If I was pregnant or plans of having baby. She took all copies of my documents & almost took all pictures from my photo album :content::content::content:

  8. I am very upset with the whole immigration and laws in the US. DMV SC in particular... I have my Philippine Driver license, SC ID card, USCIS work permit... BS I can't get. Drivers license because I would to get. Learners permit and hold it for 180 days before a DL is issued.

    OMG how would I work and drive my car without someone with me every time I'm driving in the highway. It's just so frustrating that I have co worker whose been here illegally and yet she can drive...

    Sis I just went to DMV also & I thimk u can have a temporary permit & the lady told me after they verify my papers, pass the written test & have the temporary permit if I want I can immediately take the drivers test whenever I want (also depends on the slot available for the test)... no need to wait for 180 days for them to issue a DL... they can issue it once I passed both Written & driving test

  9. I don't know if this helps, but the New York DMV refuses to give me a driving licence or even a New York State non-drive identity card without me first obtaining a Social Security Number :/

    So I just applied for one today and I'm waiting for it to come through the mail before going to the DMV again. I would suggest you go after you get a Social Security card since that number is what usually connects all government services together and helps identifying you as an individual :/

    Already have SSN sis,,, got it a week after I arrived here & change my name to my husband's name a week after we got married

  10. Hey guys,,, anyone who had the same experience as mine,,,, after I reecived my combo card,,, my hubby & I went to DMV, I applied for ID card since i still dn't know how to drive,,, the lady told me to wait for a letter for DHS verification since my combo card is new & still not on their system,, its almost 3 weeks now but no letter yet,,, this frustrates me,,, all this waiting,,. & i called DMV hotline today, the agent again told me to wait for a week or two or call USCIS. I called USCIS but its that automated machine again,,, huhuhu this really frustrating :cry::huh2:
