  1. You as the immigrant are ineligible for Medicaid for five years. Your wife however, as a US citizen is fine - the coverage is going to her and not you. At any time you may chose to buy your own health insurance privately, obtain health insurance via your workplace (which isn't an option for you), or obtain health insurance via the federal or state exchange (ACA/Obamacare) - your immigrant status does not prevent you from doing that. You may also do any of these same things for your wife. As to whether you should choose to add her to a new plan, is all up to you and your financial situation. Is the plan you find giving you better coverage for your family, for instance? How expensive is it for you etc?

I was just trying to get a health insurance through the marketplace in healthcare.gov. The bronze category plans are around 400 - 500$ but their coverage is limited and the silver ones are from 500 - 800$ which has a better coverage than the bronze. But I am still new here and insurance plans are not easy for me to understand all the conditions and options. Since I have a new born baby I would like to make sure that she is 100% covered with doctor visits and vaccines. The MEDICAID is covering all this 100%. I am not really worried about getting a health insurance for me.

Is there a risk in keeping the MEDICAID for my wife and baby? I remember when my wife applied for the MEDICAID I was still in my country so she didn't mention me as I was not planning on getting a MEDICAID. And she also rejected the option of receiving food stamps as we have some savings we can rely on till I find a job.

I am still a contractor at my job and hoping to convert into a permanent employee and if this happens I will be covered by the employer with a convenient plan which has a good coverage and a minimal amount deducted from my pay stub. At that time I am planning to cancel my wife's and baby's MEDICAID. But will this risk my immigration status? That my family are using MEDICAID during the period I have a job and able to get my own coverage?

    Thanks for your reply.

  2. I am a green card holder, my wife is a U.S. citizen. I have moved to the U.S in October 2015. I have an AOS as a joint sponsor.

When My wife and I moved to the U.S. she was pregnant and I didn't have job at that time. So she checked her illegibility for MEDICAID and she was approved for it. Since she didn't have income at that time neither she had for 2015 year. We had our baby in January and automatically our baby was enrolled in the same MEDICAID plan.

I recently found a job. But they don't offer health insurance.

When I called an insurance broker and explained my situation to her she said I don't have to buy a health insurance for my wife and child since they are already on MEDICAID and I only have to apply for myself.

    My questions:

    1) Since I have a job now, I have to find a family plan for my wife and child and I. And cancel MEDICAID? Or do I have the option to keep the MEDICAID for my wife and child and just purchase a plan for myself.

    2) What impacts are there if I keep the MEDICAID for my wife and child while I can purchase a private health plan.

    3) Will my joint AOS be affected with this?

    4) Does this impact my immigration status and applying for citizenship in three years.

I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum.

    Thanks

  3. Hi,

I am a US citizen and sponsoring my husband on an IR-1 visa who just entered the US. We have a joint sponsor with me. I am pregnant right now and I have applied for a Medicaid since my husband is still looking for a job. I have not requested food stamps or other kinds of support.

    My questions here:

    1) Is medicaid going to affect my husband's immigration and GC process!?

    2) And what if I apply for food stamp will this have an impact on my husband's immigration process.

Please this is urgent and I really need an advise here.

  4. Hi,

I have IR-1 immigration visa and I entered the US on 10/16/2015. I have paid the ELIS fees of 165$ since June/2015. When I check my receipt number which I get from ELIS site and use it to check the status in USCIS it shows me this message:

    Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:

My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

And in ELIS website the status date is June 9, 2015. And the bubble is in Optimized. And I guess it's been in optimized bubble for a while even before the POE.

I just want to know if all this is normal?!?

    Thanks

  5. If your medical exams expire before your visa does, you might wanna leave before that date

I had my medical on 28/April, my interview was on 6/May. The expiration of my visa is 28/October so it seems they already gave me the visa with the expiration of the medical test. Although when I asked the doctor at the time of my medical, about the expiration of the medical test, he said there is no expiration date for the medical.

But it seems US. embassy automatically calculates it and make it the expiry date of the visa!! Am I correct?

By the way thanks all for you great answers. It really helped me plan.

    Thanks

  6. Hi,

Planning my POE in the mid of October.

    1. What is the advisable lay over time between connection flights in the US. (Between POE airport and final destination airport)? 3:45 hrs is fine?

    2. When I had my interview in may, I answered the guy who interviewed me that I will enter the US. in the mid of July. But I couldn't do it since I am still waiting for University certificates to be issued. Will this cause any issues when I enter? my visa is still valid. I am worried that my answers are logged in to a system where they can review them at the time of entry.

    3. Is it fine if I just stay for 2 weeks in the US. and go back to my country to continue the processing and the evaluation of these University certificates? Then come back to the US. two months later?

    Thanks,

  7. Thanks all. What about the EAD card will I need one to start working? I am planning to start applying for jobs in the US from now before travelling. In case I get an offer can I start working immediately upon my arrival without waiting for anything?

  8. Hi,

My immigrant visa is approved and planning to travel to the US soon. I was in the US before and I have a SSN and it says on it valid for work only, When I filled the DS-260 I mentioned that I don't need a SSN. Is this right? Can I use my SSN to work and continue my life in the US? I noticed that my petitioner SSN does not mention anything on it!!

    Thanks

  9. Hi,

I has my interview on May/6 in UAE. And I checked the CEAC website and it shows "ISSUED". I will go to pick up the sealed document and my passport on Tuesday May/12.

Now I am would like to plan my trip to the US along with my spouse the (petitioner)

I already have a SSN number as I studied and worked in the US before.

    I have the following questions:

    1) Is there any difference in point of entries airports regarding processing time to issue a green card? My final destination is Columbus Ohio.

    2) I would like to travel mid of July. What is the average waiting time to get my Green Card?

    3) Will I also receive a travel document along with my Green Card? And do I have to apply for it if I intend to go outside the US?

    4) I am planning to stay in the US for one month after first entry then I have to go back to UAE to finalize some stuff behind. Like getting my spouse University certificates and certifying them. And finish some work related issues. As I cannot do these things before moving to the US. What if one month is not enough to receive my Green Card can I leave the US and come back again in couple of months?

    5) I will put the address to receive my Green Card to be my uncle's home address is it fine if he receives it and mails to me?

    Thanks

  10. As far as I know, there is no recommendation for triple regimen of MMR and DT ...... Kindly consult your doctor about it.....

Here is a from centre of disease and control(cdc) that might be useful to you

I went thru the attachment pdf you attached. And as you said there is one dose for TD. But I have asked one guy I met on the day of my interview and was also informed to take multiple doses for mmr and td. So what happens if I don't take the doses? Where will they check if I took them or not? Do I have to take the new vaccine record with me when I enter the US. Will they ask me about it?
