I wouldn't send my original naturalization certificate 😳
Unfortunately it is required by law to send the original document. They then send it back to you, hopefully in one piece...

Ok so what about the document they mentioned at the ceremony that will be mailed (Suppose to be the judges approval for name change). Do I have to wait for this first to get anything else done besides voting? Thanks.

So I got naturalized recently and also had my name changed, which is shown on my certificate. However, they did not give anyone the additional document (she said there was a document which the judge signs off on to say he approves your name change) this is due to Covid, the judge was streaming on a live video from another city during the ceremony. They said it will be mailed to us. I do have the certificate with me though.
1. Do I have to wait for that document to arrive before doing anything?
2. In what order do I update all my stuff due to the name change?
3. Can I go register to vote with just the Naturalization / Citizenship Certificate?
Thanks!

Ok thanks, I think I will apply first since I had the 10 yr gc and hope for the best.

UPDATE : Well to be very honest, due to some finance troubles I did not file yet! However, I am able to file the N400 right now but I was wondering is it STILL ok for me to file it considering my 10 yr GC expired in December 2014? Thanks!

Oh thats great to hear! I hope it goes the same way for me too Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will go ahead and do the N400 asap. I will come back to this thread and let you folks know how it goes with this type of situation - maybe it will help someone later on

Hello everyone,
My 10 year green card / permanent resident card just expired and I was wanting to file the N400. I am reading very mixed opinions on this type of situation as some people say it is ok to file with the expired 10 year card and some say to renew it first and then file N400.
So can I file my N400 with my recently expired 10 year GC or do I HAVE to renew the GC first? Would surely be nice to save some $$.
Also, I read this in NYTIMES ...

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I would like to file for my citizenship before my gc expires at the end of 2014 and was wondering if someone knowledgable could help me with my question based on the information below.
About 9 years ago I was given a 10 year unconditional gc based on marriage but due to circumstances we seperated and later divorced about 2 years 3 months later. I have been unemployed for the past 2 years and did not do my taxes as well.
My question is, can I do my past taxes right now or get on some sort of payment plan with the IRS and use that as proof of payment or payments being made? Will that be an issue?
Also since we divorced 2 years 3 months later, will that be an issue too?
Thanks!
Regret name change after naturalization - what do I do now?
in Passports, etc. - What to do now that you are a US citizen

I changed my first and middle name and I do have my naturalization certificate with the new name but have not done anything else yet.
Unfortunately, I wish to go back to my old name so what do I have to do now?
Has anyone else had this happen?
Thanks!
