If you mean a renounce of  your Ukr. citizenship by that, then it's not how it works.  It's long and exhausting process  in Ukraine and  turning in your passport doesn't make the process complete.  I know just one person. ONE, who went through the entire process and he says if he knew how bad it would be, he wouldn't even tried. 

  

USA doesn't care, as long as you leave and enter the country as US citizen. 

 

As of now Ukraine doesn't recognize a dual citizenship, but there is no "punishment" for having more than one either.

 

Now, Parliament is working on recognizing multiple citizenship since apparently a half of the country (at least)  possesses more than one anyway. 

I keep mine. And use it when enter/exit Ukraine . Was actually quite  beneficial during Covid lockdown when "foreigners" weren't allowed in.

I think that's pretty much the info I was looking for. I don't have a particular desire to renounce it or anything. I just wasn't sure if I had to notify anyone that I got a US one.

Similar how to one has to update family records once get married overseas. Just felt like the kind of thing I had to report somewhere so not get some weird fine for not doing it haha.

And that thought occurred mainly after all these years of being vetted left and right during immigration and the overall phrasing that Ukraine doesn't have dual citizenship.

So great to know I don't HAVE to renounce anything. I would very much love to keep mine 😃  Just wanted to not have any trouble later on.

Hello everybody!

As lines finally started moving I finally got my citizenship interview and finally passed it! Got certificate, applied for passport, overall smooth sailing.

BUT! What do I do now with my Ukrainian passport now that I'm waiting for US passport? I assume I need to update records in some way ? send it back? No idea what to do and can't seem to find any information on consulate site (it isn't made in a best way).

So I was hoping anyone who went through similar step can advise me either what to do, or at least where to address my question.

So if my fiance sent to the USCIS letter with Russian words Kharkov and Olegovna, will they inform me that i made a mistake?

Later, here in Ukraine, when i will put personal data in DS-160 form like Olegivna and Kharkiv, will they inform me that i made a mistake? How Can I change it? In this case, how to be?

And could you advice some web-site with an done example of DS-160?

It will be considered as typo.

In case if your petition will go through - you're lucky and just tell the CO at embassy before your interview that you made an apparent typo on your original form.

If they will see it as incorrect information - they will send you RFE and ask to send correct documents. Which is OK and not a big deal, but it takes time, so you gonna wait for approval longer because they will need to check all documents once again.

There's also such a thing as E-Request when you call to USCIS and fix typos in your petition, but I've no idea how to do it =)

Still being concerning about one thing: I put information in G-235A province Kharkov, but not Kharkiv, and Patronymic Olegovna, not Olegivna. Birth Certificate in Russian, local passport in Ukrainian/Russian.. So is it OK? And which is correct - OleHovna or OleGovna?

And how the Birth Certificate translation looks like? Any stamps?

No, it's not OK. Since your visa will be issued in Ukraine at the end - all names and places need translation from Ukrainian language.

Yeah, all birth sertificates obtained at USSR are in Russian, but translation in English still needs to be done from Ukrainian.

If you gonna translate your documents anyway, wait thise few days untill it is done and take all names from there.

So it doesn't matter if you want it or not, it has to be Kharkiv, Olegivna (but there's no line for this in G325a, it's not a second name) =)

Most translations for birth certificate look like:

page 1 - scan or copy of page

page 2 - just lines with text in same order they go in sertificate

(Like: "Citizen: [name] ; Born on : [date]": etc .... It just has to contain all information and has to be readable)

Translation is signed by person that did it.

page 3 (or just other side of page 2) - has some note from a lawyer, like (in Ukrainian or both languages):

"I, [name], [date] certify that signature of translator [name] is real and was done in my presence.

The identity, competence and qualifications of translator was verified and approved.

Was registred as [number]

Notary [name] + [signature] + [pesronal stamp of this person]"

All pages will be sewn together, have paper seal and several stamps on borders of seal saying how many pages it contains, date and who sealed it + signature.

Something like this. It may not be exactly like this, but something like it (depends on agency where translation was done and their blanks).

Just needs to be readable, have all info, signature and verification from notary, stamps.

She may order this sertificate through some agency online and ask them to send it. Just will cost some money. Or ask some friends there to do it. (here's some info for youw fiancee http://embrus.org.ua/ru/consulate_certificates)

Could be cheaper and less stress then traveling there and staying in a hole while doing it.

it takes around month in Russia to make police certificate. Ukrainian can be done just in few days (one day if pay for expedited).

As for names - just tell her to print a scan from her curent foreign passport and just insist to use those names in all translations. That's all =) no need to send it anywhere, just do this and it will be alright )

(Here's a passport page example. There's a plastic page in that passport. Your fiancee has the same one. Those names SHOULD be correct because they were translated by governement ).

Trust me =) I have a weird last name and name too, where in different landuages (russian and ukrainian) I have some letters changing (from E to O and from I to Y) =)

But agan, bor names like her daughter's (where there are two official options) - the only right chiose is to use the one from passport cuz that will be the document she will show everywhere.

Unfortunately, names ARE big deal, but as Loving_girl already said, your fiancee and her daughter should already have foreign passports.

So you should use those names. Even if there was a mistake when they were translated. Name on documents and in pasport just have to match so there will be no problems on PoE etc.

She can always change her name however she wants during AoS, but for now it's important to use the name from her foreign passport.

It didn't matter earlier, but around 5 years ago there was a law that ALL documents have to be done and translater from Ukrainian landuage only.

So for the rest name just use Ukrainian equivalents

Харкiв - Kharkiv

Олександр - Oleksandr

(and you may need Київ - Kyiv)

You don't need patronyms tho, because there's no analog for that in USA and no one will ever use them.

Btw, don't forget to put N/A(just empty) and NONE(like for second name or prior spouse) to all empty fields in G325A. So there will be no questions if she forgot to put some information and no questions in embassy when they will check if all paper were filled. Will take 5 minutes now, but saves her some time and nerves later =)

Both of you will get a mail. Don't be stressed and just wait for first one that will come to PETITIONER, saying that your case is at NVC.

In it you will also find case number and line that you may already finish form DS-160. That's pretty much all you need right now.

When it says "READY", your fiance can call to medical center and appoint her medical exam without waiting for her mail (just send hed scan of your mail so she can show it if she will need it and so she will have case number).

Interview can be registred online as soon as you get your medical done. You don't need to have date of interview or wait for documents to be in embassy for medical, you need only case number. So finish with all papers and shedule it later.

Don't bother to call anywhere =) they will tell you to wait anyway. Just wait for the first mail =)

Meanwhile you can collect more proofs, police certificate and send her affidavit of support.

As for pasport photos - they need to be same as the ones you used for petition. 5x5cm (she can just tell "I need photos for US visa" and people who will print photos will do it right, they know what to do). Same one she will need at interview at embassy so i suggest to do around 6 or them (3 for medical and 3 for embassy).

The parental advice/approval letter is a Philippine CFO policy, not a US embassy requirement. So it is not necessary with any dealings at the embassy.

I needed that letter for my wife as she was 22 at the time of our petition (july 09).

The letter was simple, 3-4 sentences if I remember correctly. Both parents sign and simply say in the letter that they have advised and approve her engagement/marriage to you (by name). She had it notarized by an attorney, but I am unsure if a notary was really necessary.

Others mention a form is available which would simplify the process. We did not have the form and just had the typed letter. CFO accepted the letter with no problems.

It is not needed for the K1 application but she will need it for the CFO interview once she gets the visa.

She can get one at City Hall where she could also get a marriage license. They will have a blank form.

As I recall, persons ages 18 to 21 must have written "parental consent" to marry in the Philippines; those ages 22 to 24 must have received "parental advice". It seems like you're dealing with this. It's a simple letter signed by parents so I'd say do it anyway. Will not hurt even if you will not need it =)

There is no packet 3 in Ukraine. You do not need to wait for anything from the embassy. They will send you a letter saying they got your case, but you do not need this letter.

Follow the instructions exactly and you should not have any problems with them. They're very easy to deal with as long as everything's filled out that they want.

The police record is valid for 1 year. Ignore people that say it expires in 30 days. My fiancee also heard people say that. It doesn't matter when it expires for any other purposes, the embassy accepts it for 1 full year.

You can pay now if you wish, the payment is also valid for 1 year. It might be best to pay now as the Hryvnya is currently very unstable and you might pay more if you wait.

Don't worry, Kiev embassy will not be closed cause any events on East border or Crimea. First of all becuse it serves as a refugee and help point for those Americans who are currently in Ukraine

It was working all the time (except 2-3 days) during events on Maydan when everything was WAY bad, cars were burning around US and Canada embassies ). Gladly, we already got our NOA2 (with hard copy) on April 17. No news after that, but I guess it's ok.

If I understand it right, we just need to wait a package that will come to my home in Ukraine with instructions what to do. It will take few weeks to send it to embassy and around a week before they will send me this package 3, right? Well, it's ok.

Anyway, since as we got our NOA2 just in 2 weeks we haven't really had mych time to goo deep into all this post NOA2 paper work while waiting :/ So I need so me help, please.

1. His part

My fiance is coming to visit me in Ukraine for my birtday and can bring me all papers that I require for next steps instead of sending them. And if we're not missing anything he needs to bring:

- I-134 signed

- Statement(s) from the employer with position, all dates, salary marked there

- Document from bank with total amount deposited for the past year and curent balance

- Certified copy from court house of his divorce decree (it was made years ago, but was a photo copy or something... we didn't know if the copy he had will work, so had to call to court house named on that paper and request for new one)

- Copy of NOA2 (do I need one?)

- cover letter as it was in our petition

- letter of intent, but with fresh date

- the exact copy of package he sent at the very begining? Just I-129f or WHOLE thing with biography forms for both of us, work, letters

Do I miss something? Anything else HE needs to prepare?

2. My part

I already have a copy of all translated documents like

- divorce decree

- my birth certificate

- passport (because there are stamps with dates about being divorced, too)

All possible proofs are alredy made (chats, sms, skype, stamps, tickets and travel info ...)

But as long as I still don't have any mail from embassy, I'm not sure if I can prepare anything else.

- Can I make my police record?

Or should I wait for package? Some people say that police record paper expires in 30 days ... and I have no idea how long it takes to make it here. So just want to coordinate it a little if it's possible...

- Can/should I pay for visa?

As long as I already had B1-B2 visa,I have an old account on tha site where you need to make registration to be able to make an appointment for interview. And to be able to do that, one of the steps is inserting code from paid receipt in bank.

Should I do it now while I wait or I have to get package first?

Just want to do as much as I can while waiting and solve the rest in few days after getting package. medical takes here one day, will get results in a same day. The embassy shedule is pretty empty lately, closest available date is just 24 hours away already for a week (yeah, I was checking every day )) it moves, but stays in a same range), so it seems possible to do it fast =)

Unfortunately, it may not be a good idea for her.

You see, it would be easier for he to get B1/B2 visa if she didn't have anyone in US.

In a lights of latest events here in Ukraine lots of new travel visas may be taken as an attempt to find a refugee (at least that's what happened for lots of people who applied during Febryary-March when riots were still on).

If you already started K1 process - I suggest to meet somewhere else, or YOU come to visit her. Same money, but you don't need any visa to enter Ukraine for 90 days. If she'll get denial right now - she'll get a record about that in her case and it can cause you some delays and questions in K1 visa.

The less things like this you have in your K1 case - the faster it goes.
