  1. I am not sure which guide you are speaking of, but if you search on USCIS for the M-476, you need to go to the back of it where it starts the M-477. That is the instructions for filing the N-400. There are a lot of "and" and "or" that you have to look out for. I hope this helps.

There are a lot more things listed in the M-477 than what you intend to send. You have to include what is asked for in your individual case. I think there are two pages of instructions. In our situation, we only used what applied and it was all on page one.

We send in the last three tax transcripts you can get free from IRS. The phone works 24/7.

    Good luck.

  2. Welcome to VJ.

Timing is different for everyone. Normally, you get your Biometrics (Picture and Fingerprints) within a month of submission of the N-400. Then another 3 to 6 months for the interview. The oath may be the same day or 2 to 6 months later depending on where you are. You can look at other peoples Timelines and get a better idea.

I our case we will have to travel to New Orleans for the interview and then have the oath ceremony in Jackson, MS later.

I don't know about St. Louis. I don't know if anyone knows the approval percentage other than USCIS. If you submit what is requested and take all your original and additional information to the interview and you have not been fraudulent, then everything should be all right.

    Good luck in your journey.

  3. I had the same thing happen with the same dates. I called USCIS and the girl said I would have to wait 15 days and then call back and they would mail me the RFE letter again. I asked her to connect me to an Immigration Officer. She said she would, but I would get the same answer.

I got connected to a nice man and he told me that the N400 was new to the tracking system at USCIS. He said the letter online was for the Biometrics. He said that was what was automatically generated and they were aware of the problem. He doesn't know when they will fix it.

It really scares you when you get the Biometrics letter, register on USCIS, and then see the RFE letter they said they mailed you and you never received it. It states they need additional information which is in the letter they mailed you and if you do not comply, your case will be closed. It also states your cases is suspended until you send in the requested information.

I hope I can believe the IO and it is only their attempt to say you have to comply with the Biometrics appointment.

  4. Welcome to VJ. First, go to My Assistant above and fill in your Timeline.

You did not say why you are in Spain. Is it military? Government orders?

Are you maintaining a residence in the US? Will you be able to document your shared live in the US?

Maybe someone has a similar experience who will provide more information.

When you go to apply for Citizenship, six months outside the US will count against you.

    Good luck.

  5. Thanks again. My wife could not leave the money in Russia for her two children. They are here in the US. Yes, she may go on a shopping spree, but not before she gets home. She does have a checking and saving account and will not have any problem depositing the money. Time is passing until she returns to me. I don't think she met anyone else, but...... You'll take care and have a great day.

  6. I want to thank everyone for the information. I talked to my wife earlier and she decided to bring $10,000 cash and an American Express check. She will claim it on the customs form. She said this is what her sister did about four years ago and did not have any problems. I regret I did not find out about the sale until the last minute. She sold it Monday afternoon.

The apartment had been vacant for about 5 months with no prospects of renting it or selling it. She was there for 3 1/2 weeks before she sold it. I think her bing there had something to do with it.

Now to pray that there will not be any problems. I out tomorrow night around 11:30 PM when her plane is scheduled to arrive.

Thanks again and have a great evening.

  7. I talked to her earlier and she was going to get an American Express Traveler's Check and declare it on the custom's form. I checked PayPal, but they did not list Rubles. Thanks for the suggestion. I hope she will not have any problems. I was just scared that there may be some kind of "penalty" for either leaving Russia or entering the US.

I will keep my fingers crossed that there will not be any problems. I can't wait until she returns. She will be back Wednesday night around midnight and she will have been gone 33 days. It seems like an eternity without her.

Chris_Жанна, send my your address and you can be assured the check will be in the mail.

  8. We had an interview 9/15. It must have been random because the lady said she did not know why were were required to have an interview. I gave her some updated information and she said she had plenty. She could not approve us. She said it would have to go to the powers that be. I believe she was a trainee. We got an e-mail on 9/30 saying the 10 year GC was ordered. My wife got hers last week. Her daughter has not received hers yet. We are going to call USCIS tomorrow.

  9. I have been checking the mail every day this past week. I have not received a letter from USCIS about the approval. Should I be concerned about this or just wait for the 30 days to pass? The e-mails said the card was ordered on 9/30. I hate this suspense. It is very frustrating that we were not approved at our interview at the Field Office in New Orleans. The lady said our case would have to be forwarded up the chain for approval. I think she was a trainee. When we had our interview for the 2 year GC, the man told us we were approved pending the appropriate shot records which we returned to their office in a few hours and the cards were ordered the next day.

I thought we should have received an official letter from USCIS saying she was approved.

    :angry::crying::clock:

  10. At last, we have received some news.:dance::dance: We had our interview in New Orleans on 9/15 and have hear nothing until this afternoon. I got an e-mail and then checked the USCIS website. They both said the Card Ordered on 9/30/09. I presume we will receive a letter about being approved.

I was about to call the Representative's Office and ask them to check on what was going on. I thought 16 days was a long time from the interview to not have heard anything.

Thanks to everyone who helped in this process. My wife doesn't know yet, because she has gone to Russia for a month. I will call her tomorrow and let her know the news. I did call my step-daughter and let her know she should be receiving her card soon. She is attending the University in Portland, OR.

I won't rest easy until both 10 year Green Cards are in hand. Next, is staring on the Citizenship, N-400 application which we can file in January 2010.

  11. I am wondering if the problem may be that she did not have a Visa to enter Russia. When I go to Russia, I have to have an invitation letter and a Visa put in my passport before I can leave.

If she had used her Russian Passport and taken her Marriage Certification, then she would more than likely not have had any problems.
