  1. Hey everyone!

    Thank you for your notes!

I have just received my green card and SSC. The green card took 2 months and the SSC I applied in July 25 and after 1 week and 1/2 I received it.

Now I need to see how to change my name, bc it came with my maiden name. Any thoughts?

    Thank you very much.

    Best

  2. Hi,

I don't know if this is the right place to post my question, but see if anyone can answer my questions.

I went through the CR-1 process and I have been in US for 7 weeks. However, I haven't received my green card yet.

How long does it take to receive the green card? What should I do?

Will I receive an authorization to work, or just the green card allows me to work?

    Thank you very much!

  3. Hey everyone,

I changed my name when I got married, however my passport was still with my maiden name, and, consequently, my visa came with my maiden name as well. So I believe that my green card will come with my maiden name, am I right?

I am trying to get a driver's license with my married name, but I called to DMV and they said that I would need to change with the immigration because they don't accept a foreign wedding certification with official translation.

Another thing, the SSN card will also come with my maiden name and the SSA attendant said that I need to change with the immigration first.

What should I do to change the name with the immigration? Will it create any issue with other docs?

And when my passport expire I will have to issue another one, but this one will have my married name. Should I wait to change my passport to then change my name with the immigration?

    Any suggestions???

    Thank you very much!

  4. Thank you for your responses. Actually I applied for SSN during my immigration process.

I went through the SSA website and I got the information below. So I guess I just need to wait?

If You Requested an SSN When You Applied for Your Visa

If you requested an SSN card as part of your visa application, U.S. Department of State (DoS), Form DS 230, “Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration” or the electronic Form DS 260, “Immigrant Visa Electronic Application”, DoS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will share with us the information needed to issue you an SSN card. Therefore, you do not need to fill out a special application or go to a Social Security office to get an SSN.

We will assign you an SSN and issue you a Social Security card after you arrive in the United States. If you already have an SSN, we will issue you a replacement SSN card. We will mail your SSN card to the U.S. mailing address where the Department of Homeland Security will send your Permanent Resident Card. You should receive your Social Security card within 3 weeks after you arrive.

    IMPORTANT:
Call us if you do not receive your Social Security card after 3 weeks or if you change your mailing address after arrival in the United States. If you call us, please have this letter with you. It will help us answer your questions.

  5. Hello,

I just got to US and I have a question regarding the Social Security Card. I received from the Consulate a paper along with my CR1 Visa and it says: "Once in the United States you must contact the Social Security Agency to get information on your Social Security Card with work authorization.

What number should I call? What documents do I have to show?

    Thank you

  6. I want to say thank you for everyone who helped me with your responses, specially to you djrub, dwheels76, SofiaIsabella and NRL.

I just got the interview date for May 23rd. So the process was actually completed on April 10th like you guys said.

Dwheels, I will complete the forms you asked! It is really important to share all the information we can, so that everyone can have a better understanding of the steps of the process.

    Thank you all!!!

  7. Hey everyone,

I have already sent all the documents to NVC and have already paid all the taxes. I just got this email from NVC saying:

"The National Visa Center has received all documentation necessary to complete pre-processing of your case. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner and attorney (if applicable) will be notified."

Do you have any idea how long it will take to complete our process at the NVC?

How long will it take to get the interview scheduled?

    Thank you very much!

  8. Hello everyone!

I know that many people ask about the steps about CR-1 process, specially after getting the I-130 approved. I have seen many great guides posted here, thank you a lot! However, some of those guides are not completely updated and I'm kind of lost.

    Questions:

    1) Can anyone use the DS-260 instead of the DS-230?

    2) And about the DS-261 instead of DS-3032? Is there any restriction for certain countries?

    3) Is there any guide of the next steps for CR-1 that are updated?

    Thank you!

  9. Thank you for the responses!

Another point is: Here, in my country, you don't need to change all your documents right after your wedding. However, when a document expires or when you need to make a new document, you HAVE to use your "married name".

For this reason, I thought that since the Green Card is a new document that was created after my wedding, I would have my "married name" on it, based on my marriage certificate.

Besides that, I will have to send to NVC photocopies of my passport biographic data page. In the meantime, I could get a new passport and this passport number will NOT match the old passport number. Would it be a problem?

Moreover, we have been filling all the forms with the "married name" based on the marriage certificate. How will it work if I have forms with a different name from the passport?

Of course, it would be better to have everything all set in order to simplify in the future, however, I don't want to jeopardize our immigration process.

  10. I am the beneficiary and when we got married I included my husband's last name in the end of my name. We filled the I-130 based on my marriage certificate, which has my new name (with my husband's last name). Do I have to change my passport name? How will it work in the future when I will have to sign other forms and get into the US? I wonder if I need to get a new passport before the interview.

    Thank you so much!

  11. Thank you Diamond Member!

We called to USCIS another day and the attendent said that she couldn't visit, but I have read somewhere and it said yes, so I got confused.

Our process has been taking so long, we got the NOA1 in April 19th and we are still waiting for the NOA2, it's been almost 8 months. Do you have any recommendation to speed up our process, since you case went pretty fast?

This is why we are planning to visit, because of this long wait!
