  1. Applied at the Canadian/US border. While it didnt take that long, the guy was definitely giving me a hard time though I am sure that is there job. I was hoping someone can point me in the direction of any threads or sites that can help with "what next" etc.

Curious about obtaining drivers license, changing bank accounts, applying for EB1 etc. Basically anything that helps with next steps!

    Thanks all!

  2. My company wants me to move to the States and is applying for me to receive an L1 visa, they haven't filed anything yet. I am in a relationship with an American and he is coming to Canada with me next week to meet family. We have had to apply for him to have a visitors permit for Canada since he had some marijuana related charges 15 years ago and is inadmissable without an approved visitors permit.

My question is, if he is denied and we have to drive back to the American border what information is tracked?

I ask because I dont want this to affect any decisions on my Visa down the road. I.e we see you travelled with someone with a criminal record etc. We have no plans to get married but I dont want any issues with them thinking I am moving here solely for this person when my visa will be a work visa.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  3. Hi all,

I have been in contact with a few US employers interested in my background but I am not sure I qualify for a Visa because I keep seeing everywhere that you need a job offer and they can sponsor me but I only see TN and H1 visas which I don't believe I fit.

I am a Senior Talent Acquisition advisor in my current role. I have a 3 year college diploma and 8 years working experience. I work specifically in high level IT roles and consulting.

Employers have expressed it is tough to find good people in this area but I still cant find anything that qualifies business minded candidates to get there?

    help/advice? Thanks everyone!!

  4. My fiance is an American citizen, I am Canadian and planning to live with him in the US.

As we prepare to fill out the paperwork we noted that convictions he had from 14 years ago are listed on the Fiance Visa petition form (where it says have you been convicted of any of the following.

He had no priors and nothing after that. I am terrified now that he will be ineligible from sponsoring me. Anyone know what this means??

    Help! Thank you!

  5. I am new so hello everyone! I am trying to find some specific answers and the board has been great but there are a few questions I hope someone can help with.

I am a Canadian citizen engaged to an American citizen. We would like to be able to live together as soon as possible so we are exploring our options. We potentially have two and I am looking for any insight.

My current company based in the US ( I work for their Canadian office) has offered to sponsor my Visa to the US (pending me meeting Visa qualifications) so I would be coming under an L1 if I qualify.

Being engaged we can also file for the K1. We were hoping to not have to marry until our actual wedding in 2015 but know a court wedding might be needed.

I have heard that if I come in on an L1 and they know I have a US fiance they can deny me entry (on the grounds they think I am going solely to marry). I fully intend to stay with my current organization.

    So my questions are:

    1) What is the better way to go K1 or L1?

    2) Can I still work on a K1 Visa for my company ( I would be working remote but as a Canadian employee until I am authorized to work in the US if possible)

    3) Which one is faster?

    4) If I come under a K1 how long until I am authorized to work?

    Thank you!!!!
