Walk-in for me with the original naturalization certificate. Took under 10 minutes while they made a photocopy of it (wouldn’t accept the copy I brought to give them).

Thanks for the response! Yes I think the vast majority do it this way. I myself have done it this way when I got the citizenship. But this time the SAA office is very far from where we live and we're not in a hurry, and since my wife will have both the card and passport book we're not too worried about mailing the card.

  2. Hi all,

I know that typically after obtaining US citizenship, the recommendation is to go to SSA office with the naturalization certificate and update the status by showing them the certificate and file SS-5 form.

Alternatively, one can also mail the SS-5 form and mail original proof of citizenship, and they would mail it back later.

My wife will soon have both a US passport book and card. We only asked for the card as a secondary proof of citizenship. We are considering to mail SS-5 form along with original passport card to avoid the hassle going to SSA office which is far from where we live and very disorganized, it would save me from taking a day off from work. Has anyone here tried to do that by mail?

Hello Sorry to hear about that... I would definitely get an infopass. When I had to reschedule my interview that helped so much as once the file is in the Orlando office, they know exactly what is going on it appears. In fact the day I got an info pass someone before me had some delay and the infopass officer went behind and brought the case officer out. Did you get a notice saying you are in line for oath ceremony? I didn't get a same day letter today.

Ok I think I will give it a try and let you know if it helps, thanks for the info! We didn't get a notice for in-line for oath ceremony, the N400 status still says "Interview Was Scheduled" and I-751 still says "Case Was Transferred And A New Office Has Jurisdiction". The only paper we were given was that my wife passed the tests and that a "decision cannot be made", but she assured us multiple times that she will either close it at the same day or next week. Did your cases status change at all or not yet?

Just to close the loop on this... I had my second rescheduled interview today WITH my wife and two kids and both my I-751 and N-400 was approved on the spot. It was extremely painless. The officer was really nice and she apologized to my wife that she had to come so early with two kids but she needed her there for the I-751 approval. Anyways she didn't want to see a thing. Just asked the civics test, the reading and written stuff and then asked a few of those yes or no questions and we were done! So now wait foe the oath ceremony

Thanks for the update! My wife and I had our combo interview on Jan 24 at Orlando office with a very friendly officer as well, she approved our cases verbally and told us she would try to close both I-751 and N400 by end of the same day or the following week at the maximum.

Still by now the status hasn't changed yet, I know it's not a lot of time, but given what the officer had told us (and given that Orlando office typically gives oath notices at the same day), it seems it's taking longer than expected. I'm wondering if we should schedule InfoPass or send a service request to try to get the file to move again. I am just worried that the file was pushed back due to volume and its causing unnecessary delay.

  5. Hi all,

NVC has requested W2 forms from me. But I work abroad and I do not get issued a W2 form or any equivalent. I filed my IRS taxes for 2017 and provided all forms to NVC. But they asked me for W2. Unfortunately, IRS transcripts were not available at the time I submitted my documents in May. But I'll give it another try and see if I can obtain those. Has anyone run in to this case?

Additionally, I've got some confusing feedback from NVC on other documents. The confusion is that they marked the documents as "ACCEPTED" but they still added comments stating they were "unable" to accept them? For example:

    - They added a "comment" on the Paystubs of my AOS co-sponsor: "We are unable to accept these documents as uploaded. Please delete these documents and submit them under the correct document name". I had uploaded them under "OTHER" because there was no option for "Paytsubs", perhaps I should have selected "PROOF OF CURRENT OR SELF EMPLOYMENT". I'm not I'm not sure how to proceed as there is no "delete" link. Should I re-upload the paystubs under "PROOF OF CURRENT OR SELF EMPLOYMENT", or since they are technically "ACCEPTED", I can ignore the comment?

    - They also added a comment on my U.S passport saying that "Part of this document is cut-off in the scan. Please replace this with a scan that shows the complete document. ". The document is also "ACCEPTED", but this comment is instructing me to "replace it". There is no "delete" or "replace" links. I could "add" another "Proof of U.S Citizenship" document, but not sure if that will replace the existing one?

    - I had also uploaded my U.S Bank Statements as "PROOF OF U.S. DOMICILE" document. Again, it was "ACCEPTED" but with a comment saying: "We are unable to accept these documents as uploaded. Please delete these documents and submit them under the correct document name". Again as above, there's no replace or delete. I can "add", but I'm not sure if I should, given that they accepted other proof of U.S. domicile such as my house deed and don't want to delay processing for an optional supporting documentation such as bank statements.

The only document that was truly "REJECTED" in the sense that both the "Status" and the "Response Notes" columns were consistent is the Marriage Certificate. And it was because part of the scan was cut-off. And I'm sharing that so that prospective NVC files are aware of how picky NVC is and avoid these issues. You need to be perfect. I assumed otherwise because I thought this was only an early screening at NVC level and because the Embassy they will see these documents again. But trust me, use a real scanner to scan documents and all corners should b visible :) . Also make sure you categorize the documents correctly. They probably will not accept "OTHER" easily, the only document that was accepted as "OTHER" in my case was a Cover Letter concerning proof of U.S. domicile in my case.

Anyway, if anyone has run into similar situation as mine, I would really appreciate it if you could share with me your experience and how you rectified it.

    Thanks

  6. Hello all,

Does the status on CEAC website change after uploading and submitting the documents online?

We submitted all NVC documents (AOS, DS, civil,...etc) online using CEAC website about 7 days ago. However, the CEAC status page still shows the status below (please see below).  I'm confused as there is conflicting information. Are we required to send the same package again via mail? The status below says they are expecting me to mail them a package (step number 5). But on https://nvc.state.gov/submit it said I can upload it online in my case.

Here's the status I'm getting when checking on CEAC website:

  7. Thanks guys for the replies! We have high hopes and inshAllah it goes smoothly. My fiancee will submit my lease and she took around 70 pages of chat.

I did just that! I ant-sized the fonts and printed couple sheets per page to save as many trees as I can. It might have been hard to read on their part, but they asked for it. They really didnt need to read our personal conversations, i just wanted them to see that we do stay in contact constantly and that from whatever they can read, we always make plans for the future, etc. I wish they would accept external drives which would make everyone's lives so much more easier and more earth friendly really.

Just a heads up though.you should send your whatsapp convos to your email every couple months (i suggest once every month) cause the emailed version on goes back so far. it doesnt go back to the day you started using in unfortunately, and I discovered this in a very annoying way I dont know about viber though, hvent used it much. this is why I wish we can show them things on a computer or via the phone, cd's etcs.. its not possible to prove everything you want to by paper

Yeah I wish they allowed mobile devices, there are plenty of evidence that can be shown this way. My fiancee used an Android app that can export the conversations on the SD card in tabular format, it was really helpful!

Here is the app url https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smeiti.wstotext&hl=en

There isn't one for iOS though :/

  8. Also I was wondering if an apartment lease would be a good proof of my intent to marry? I currently live with my immediate family since its customary in our culture to remain living with the family until getting married at which point one would move to a new aparment with his/her new partner. So I have just recently rented a new apartment in preperartion for my upcoming marriage and I was wondering if we should submit this lease as evidence? I'm still not officially living there but the lease has already started since January 1st (23 days before my fiancee's interview)

  9. was there any reference to bring in a police report? or is that something one orders and it's sent on to the IV Unit ?

No actually there wasn't (in that particular email). No the police record is obtained by the applicant him/herself and then submitted to the consulate via mail and that's what we did.

They also didn't even ask her to bring in the passport in that email, but that might be too obvious and it might be just they didn't feel the need to specify it in the email.

  10. Hello All,

The US embassy in Ankara emailed me (on behalf of my fiancée) asking her to bring these documents for K1 interview:

    · Medical report (please visit http://turkey.usembassy.gov/medical_requirements.html for medical requirements)

    · 2 Photos (please visit http://turkey.usembassy.gov/photo_requirements2.html for photo requirements)

    · Birth Certificate (original/translation/copy)

    · Proof of relationship between you and your fiancée (photos, phone records, emails, letters, etc…)

But we had already mailed 2 passport photos and proof of relationship as per earlier instructions. We're wondering whether this is a standard reminder email or whether it means they are not convinced of the proof we already mailed which includes screenshots of weekly samples of Skype calls, Viber, WhatsApp and other messaging applications from her mobile phone in addition to photos from our engagement ceremony and my Google voice number call logs (for international calls). My I-129F packet also included similar logs in addition to boarding passes, passport stamps photocopies, airline tickets, more engagement ceremony photos and a diamond ring receipt.
We're now considering printing out the entire WhatsApp/Viber chat logs and have my fiancee bring them to the interview? They are about 300 pages when exported to tables with small font size, do you recommend doing this? Has anyone from Turkey received similar email for their K1 interview?
    Thanks!
  11. Hi all,

My fiancee will have her interview in Ankara in about 3 weeks. We've already mailed her documents and they were received but we have a few questions:

    1. Should we email the embassy and make sure that the papers we sent are complete and not missing anything? Or will they email us on their own if there's something missing?
    2. We hard originally submitted our letters of intent to marry with I-129F packet, that was 4 months ago (by the interview time it'll have been 5 months), should my fiancee bring with her new letter of intents to the interview?
    3. My fiancee does not speak Turkish but speaks some English, and I was wondering if we can ask for Arabic translator? I'm not sure if they would be able to do this for us but it'll be great help, I'm worried that a misunderstanding might jeopardize the interview. Should we try to request that ahead of time via email?

Thanks in advanced for your help!

  12. Hello all,

My brother (adult and unmarried) has a pending i-130 petition filed by our mother (who is a LPR) and is currently attempting to apply for a visa in the UK. If denied, his only option is to return to Syria where a brutal civil war is currently taking place. He is currently allowed to temporarily stay in the UK because he has recently finished his Master's degree where he obtained it from a university in UK and he has a chance to practice and file for different visa

Given that his priority date is approaching in 2 years, do you think we have a chance of getting humanitarian parole approval that would allow him to wait for his i-130 petition in the US? He is also the last member of our immediate family who does not have residency in the US. A lawyer suggested to us to apply for humanitarian parole and we are very interested to see if this will work, but if he is denied, will this hurt his pending i-130 application? And also for what it's worth, he has tried before apply for a visitor visa and was denied but that was about two years ago.

    Thanks!

  13. Hi all,

My fiancee and her family will travel from Syria to Turkey to have her medical exam and visa interview. We're trying to make the trip to Ankara as short as possible since they're planning to travel to Istanbul and wait for the visa there with their relatives who live in Turkey. The interview will be on a Thursday morning. Is it good idea to schedule the medical examination on Monday of the same week? Or would that be too late?

    Thanks in advance!

  14. Hello all,

My fiancee has an upcoming K1 interview in January in Ankara US Embassy. I have prepared my I-134 with all requirements but since I've only started working this year, I don't have recent tax transcripts to show as a proof. I have prepared a co-sponsor i-134 (my uncle) just to be safe.

Now that Ankara US Embassy asks for documents to be mailed 15 days before the interview, I was wondering if I should submit only my I-134 form and if they are not satisfied with pay stubs and letter of employment as proof then my fiancee can hand over the additional i-134 in the day of the interview. Is that a good idea? Will this cause delays? Would it be faster to send both i-134 initially?

  15. Hello all,

I'm considering asking my uncle to file a joint sponsor for my fiancee visa. I already meet all the requirements for a sponsor but I don't have 2013 tax returns to prove it and so I want to be cautious in case the CO insists on income tax returns.

Some background: My uncle had sponsored my dad on 2007 when we filed for family-based immigrant visa. I accompanied my dad along with mom, a brother and a sister. Since then, my brother and I have already been naturalized.

I'm not sure how he should these answers:

    1. Q8: The following persons are dependent on me (whole/partially): Should my uncle list the dependents he added when he filed for his taxes in 2012? Should he also list my dad, mom and sister since they still have not been naturalized?
    2. Q9: I have previously submitted affidavits of the following persons: Should my uncle list my dad AND his family who accompanied him? Or should it be entry for the entire petition?
    3. Q10: I have submitted visa petitions to USCIS on behalf of the following persons: Should my uncle list my dad AND his family who accompanied him? Or should it be entry for the entire petition?

Basically the question is the same, I'm not sure if my uncle should list just the primary beneficiary of his 2007's affidavit or also his family.

    Thanks

  16. 100% - Don't hold your count your chickens on that one. USEM will want 125%.

Yes I've actually miscalculated my gross income for this year, I would be over 125% so hopefully that is not an issue. My biggest concern is now when is the best time to reschedule my fiancee interview for? I don't want to schedule too early before I have a chance to file my taxes but also I want to avoid unnecessary delays.

Also, I've been reading FAM and it sounds like COs are asked to be more suspicious of petitioner interest to marry the beneficiary if the interview date is far from the petition expiration. My petition already expired Oct 31 because we had to transfer it from Amman to Ankara which took long time to finish and I don't want to raise red flags by scheduling too late.

  17. Thanks guys. Ok sounds like I have three options:

    1. Postpone interview until sometime around mid May and order tax transcripts

    2. Postpone one month to Feb 20 and use w2 and schedules as evidence

    3. Do not postpone and use only pay stubs and letter as evidence

Of course I would love not to postpone but I have read here multiple times that I-134 is treated as I-864 and they always expect tax returns I otherwise we have big chance of getting RFE. Is that true? Can someone with similar experience in Ankara comment on that?

My second preferred option is 2 which seems reasonably safe, I just have one question: If I print out the final PDF report from TurboTax, would that have everything they will be looking for?

    Two more questions:

    1. Should I get tax transcripts from last two years? Even though I had different job in 2011 and in 2012 my only income was from 401k emergency withdrawal

    2. Is it a good idea to email the consulate and ask them whether they can accept pay stubs and a letter as evidence for I-134?

Thanks again for all the help!

  18. I guess you dont know this but each year the amount of money they expect you to make for the poverty guideline goes up each year. Every year they change that amount and you file I-134 now but when you do your AOS you will need the 125% for the I-864 affidavit of support.

Hmm I didn't think about that. My actual income is actually well over %125, but it is just that in tax year 2013 I worked as an intern in the summer for a modest pay and then switched to a full-time job which is my current salary, this is why my 2013 tax transcript will only show a number around %125 poverty line but in reality my income is well above that.

    hi there

if you can not get 2013 tax return you can just submit paystubs since that month when you started working

paystubs are also the evidences and employers letter too, pay stubs are just fine

Yeah I intend to do that, but when I search on this forum, many people are reporting that the consulate are asking for more evidence, actually some are even saying that 1040 form is not enough and that it has to be complete tax transcript (which is also what the online attorney told me)

  19. FYI: per the US Embassy in Manila, the I134 only need to meet the 100% POVERTY GUIDELINES and not the 125% as it has been posted in sime if the forums here on VJ.

Thanks kryzkyle, yes I realize that but it seems like some consulates treat i-134 exactly as i-864 which is why I'm concerned. I134 form instructions make it seem very easy and this is why we originally scheduled for Jan 23 interview. But from reading online, many are getting refused because of not enough evidence of financial support.

BTW, has anyone had issues with their i-134 form at US Embassy in Ankara? This is where my fiancee will having her interview and I'm not sure how stringent they are in checking I134 evidence.
