Will I need to get my dog and two cats a pet passport when relocating to the USA from the uk?
-
You all are great. Thanks for the replies and links. We have decided to fly them on our own instead of going with a pet service. Will have a pet boarder collect them from the airport for us and board them for 3-5 days while we find a home to rent.
I will go ahead and get them rabies vaccination to be in the safe side. It's a little up in the air which stet we are moving to at the moment despite us moving in June. (Mainly depending on if DH gets a job before we flight out from the uk to the US.

Hi,
Please don't thrown rotten food at me.
I know there is LOTS of info on this forum about moving pets from the UK to the USA but, I'm overwhelmed by it all and I hope it's ok I post.
Firstly, we want to save on costs by importing our pets on our own. We are moving to the US the first week of June. Location isn't 100% as we are HOPING my DH bags a job before we go (he already has been approved to live/work in the US) however, if he doesn't it is likely we will end up in Texas.
We have two cats under the age of 8 and a 14 month old dog. I am aware that they need to be up to date with injections, micro-chipped (?) and have a fit to fly certificate.
However, can someone clarify WHEN these things need to be done before we fly our on June 1? Also, is there a link that shows which vaccinations are needed by state ie, rabbies etc? My vets have no information on moving pets to the USA.
I cannot seem to find a clear answer on the pet carrier sizes either.
Thanks in advance!

Husband has his interview this week at London embassy. Fingers crossed all goes well!

Thank you everyone.
Thank you everyone. We are finding your responses to be true as he searches for work in the USA.

Apologies. Only found this one after I had posted the other. I didn't spot this thread the first time I searched.

Thank you so much for these replies! Very very helpful.
Can you also call the DOS to enquire about a case number? Most people are receiving their case number a few days to 2 weeks from their approval date in London but we have been waiting 5 weeks for our case number!
Did you ring DOS ?

You're probably logging in as a non immigrant visa applicant so check to make sure it says immigrant visa instead. If not then someone else may have another solution for you as I'm new to this as well, good luck.
Yes! That was exactly what was happening. Thanks!!!

Four months ago I paid for my interview online, don't think its changed in that short time. There is no extra charge for a visa if you get approved. And yes they do let you know that you are approved there and then. The interview is probably the easiest part of the whole process, it's more like a chat than an interview.
Thank you for the reply. What was the fee for the interview? Sorry if I am being daft. I don't understand how much and for what we are paying fo r on the day of the interview.

Hi Sharon,
We are near the end of our process so feel free to ask questions if needed. Also, we are moving to Austin, Texas! :-) I'm American and my husband is English. We've been married nearly 10 years and have two children and live here in the UK currently.
I found lost at sea's information incredibly helpful. It is extremely detailed. We started on Oct 22 of last year and my husband's interview is this week so, it's a pretty quick process through London DCF considering.
Best of luck to you!

I am doing this now. In the drop down menu for Visa Class...do you remember what you chose? There isn't an option for IR1. I'm confused about this. Also it is asking for a DS 160 number but, my husband completed a DS 250. he has a confirmation number? Is that what they want? Or, are they wanting the LND number?
Can you tell me if you paid for the visa on the day (I think it is $230?) What methods can you use for payment?
-
So, I'm logging into the website given on my interview letter to register with a courier and it is asking for "Visa Class" with a drop down menu. We are getting IR-1 visa but that isn't an option in the drop down menu? Anyone know which one I am to choose? There are several otherwise I would list them here...
Also, it asks for a ds160 number. But, my husband did the ds260!

My husband's visa interview at the London Embassy is next week and I'm a bit confused on payment for the visa.
Can someone confirm, that has recently been for an interview, do you pay in person on the day? How much? and what method can you use? ie., British debit cards, american credit card, cash ? Is it $230?
Also, I know they do not issue the actual visa in your passport and we have to set up a courier. Will my husband at least find out if he is approved for a visa the day of his interview?

Hi NYERINLONDON,
I am in a similar boat to you, filing DCF in London. Can I just ask, on your I-864, as the main sponsor/petitioner, did you give details of your job in the UK, or fill it in as "unemployed" as you won't have a job to go to in the US? I understand the process for showing intent to re-establish domicile, just a bit unclear on what info they want on my form...interested to hear what other people are doing! Thanks!
It is my understanding that you complete that section if you had any american income during those tax years. I wasn't working in the US or the UK (living in the UK) and ticked Unemployed and wrote $0.00 for all the sums.

I think you should be honest with her. Have this chat with your fiance. Nobody knows your heart and head more than yourself. I'm sure she has noticed the changes in your relationship as well. You may can come to an agreement that things just aren't working out and go your separate ways or, may agree that some things can be worked on and take a chance is working on those things. After all, you said you both have come such a long way. Some things really are worth fighting for. People grow throughout their lives. Which means sometimes people change, too. It is whether or not you as a couple can grow and change together and make it work.
Call me old fashioned but, I live by - "Honesty is the best policy".
Best of luck to you both

I feel awful for complaining about my wait time when so many of you have been waiting for what seems like forever. Just waiting for our last hurdle - the interview now. Completed Submission of the notification of applicant readiness form on 13 Dec. Still no interview date set (DCF - London) Anyone else filing through London? Curious as to what the average wait time is to get an interview date...
Sending lots of speedy application vibes to you all.

Once he receives his greencard - or EAD - he will be able to seek employment anywhere. In short, the answer is yes, he may apply for work with the US government. Going a little further, there are certain positions with our governemnt that require a certain level of clearance that may not be available for non-citizens.
Good luck!
thanks Gegel! Once his visa is issued and we move to the USA will he be able to work straight away?
when can we apply for his green card or EAD?

I'm a USA citizen and my husband of 8 years is British. We have filed for the spouse visa here in London and awaiting his interview. He currently works for the UK government as a civil servant in financial I.T. Does anyone if he would be able to work for the US government under his visa?
-
My DH had his medical on the 9th Dec and we completed the Submission of The Notification of Applicant Readiness online. Do we just sit back now and wait for a letter via mail to tell us when the interview in London is?
Can anyone advice the 'about' time it is taking from the day London Embassy are getting the medical until the interview is?

thanks so much!

Packet 3 Form update from September 1st 2013 - DS-260:
http://london.usembassy.gov/ds2001.html
Applicants returning their DS forms after September 1st should now complete and return the DS-260, rather than the DS-230 and DS-2001.
It's unclear what those who have already complete their DS forms (Packet 3 return) but are interviewing after September 1st should do.Probably wise to complete a DS-260 as well as the forms already mailed.Read follow up comment: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/443127-dcf-london-i-130-for-ir1cr1-spouse-guide/?p=6480459Hey Lost at sea. Can you clarify...? I am confused if I am to complete the DS-230? On my checklist from the Embassy for everything I need to bring to the visa interview it states to complete the DS-260 Electronic Application . Nowhere on the form states to complete a DS-230?
Also, am I right in thinking that after the Medical, we will be contacted for our interview date? We have a medical date for Dec 9. I wasn't sure if we were to call and make the visa interview appointment or not?
-
I am confused.
We got our Immigrant/Fiance Visa Interview Checklist last Friday and the NOA2 a few days prior. It states to complete the DS-260 which is the Immigrant Visa Electronic Application Form. My husband is in the process of doing this (be prepared! This form is a big one!)
But, I am also reading on lost_at_sea 's experience http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/443127-dcf-london-i-130-for-ir1cr1-spouse-guide/ where she talks about the DS-230? And, that has to be filled in and mailed via post?
So both need completing?

well, if they are unavailable, GP can take a titer and check if the vaccines are present in the blood. For Frankfurt consulate, they say, if the records are unavailable, there are only 3 required vaccination for someone between 18 and 64: MMR, Tdap and Varicella.
thanks scienceworks. we feel that our GP's office just isn't being very helpful. They are always a bit useless.
he's lived here his whole life. it just seems bit silly that 'only his mother' would have the records.
-
My husband's GP office say they do not have records of his vaccinations because being born in 1971, the parents of children kept them?Is anyone else running into this problem?
How on earth are we to locate these? Surely they are on file somewhere?!
Securing a rental house before we arrive
in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
Posted
Hi,
We are moving from the UK to Charlotte, NC. DH is applying for jobs now and has head hunters in the case. We are to fly to NC after our house sale exchange on the 6th of June.
Ideally, we want to secure a place to rent before we arrive to save us living in a hotel. (We have pets too) has anyone secured a rental property without proof of a job? there is a ch age DH won't secure something before we leave in 3 weeks. Some companies do skype interviews but others want to meet him face to face.
We are willing to pay double deposits or even 6 months in advance .....anyone know if this will suffice? We are going through American Homes 4 rent.... They seem to have this standard application process with no where to explain your situation when I spoke to them on the phone they didn't seem to know about expat families and different routes depending on situations.
So stressful! :-/
