  1. Any help would be appreciated. When my wife entered USA on her k1 visa, the packet containing her copy of birth cert and notarized translation were taken by customs. She didn't really know why, she just figured it was protocol. I still assume its normal, however we are now in the process of filing AOS I-485 and they are requiring a copy of her birth cert again and a "translation". Does this have to be an actual notarized one again? Can we just have it translated without that hassle. Also, could it be that the packet they took from her will be met with our new app? So confused. Thank you

  2. I posted a lot of questions (and received a lot of great help, advice, etc.) during this entire K-1 process and our interview is finally almost here! It's the morning of March 19 (Wednesday) in Moscow. My fiancee is currently on his way to Moscow for his medical exam (03/18) and then the interview.

I am so nervous! I can't even express how much I want it to be approved. I feel like my nerves are the worst now that the interview date is finally here, because I am so scared about something going wrong!

For those of you who completed the process, how did you deal with those last few days leading up to the interview? They're incredibly exciting, but also terrifying.. can't wait to hear a "I got approved!" from my fiancee...

    *fingers crossed*

That's huuuuge!)) Good luck! Hopefully we will be right behind you.

  3. There is no 'packet 3' really, just an email for you and a letter for your fiancee. They will use the information you provided for her address for her letter. If I remember right you don't need the NVC number either. I believe it took about a week to get my email and about two weeks for her to get the letter. If fact by the time she got the letter the appointment was set and the visa paid for already. I did everything for her and paid with a credit card to the Russian Standard Bank and you use that receipt number to set the interview appointment at the Embassy.

    Hope this helps? Good Luck!smile.png

    Thanks, VERY helpful actually. :)

that "Packet 3" name is so deceiving. I don't know what people did before this site. SO she will receive a letter in snail mail that she will need for the interview and the email I am to receive is basically telling me what I already know to do next? Basically we are thinking about paying and finishing the app soon and getting it out of the way but we didn't want to do anything out of sequence and regret it later. Also if you don't mind me asking, did your lady have any documents besides the police report translated?

On the travel.state.gov site they are asking for the Case Number and an "Invoice Number" to make a payment. I'm on the phone right now on hold waiting for the invoice number so we can pay.

  4. Thanks guys, we aren't in a rush to finish everything since we need to wait at least two more weeks for the police certificate so maybe its best we don't have the email quite yet. I'm on the phone right now with nvc to get this "invoice number" that I didn't even know we needed, :)

I see you have an interview coming up in a few days) That's pretty damn awesome! :)

How long after NVC sent the case to Moscow did you guys get this email may I ask?

Best wishes to you all as well :)

  5. =) For us, an e-mail was sent from the Embassy in Moscow and it provided a link for Zhenya (my Russian fiance) to go to in order to fill out the packet and necessary information for the interview. It took him several, several hours to fill out this information because he did not always understand everything and I was at work at the time, and unable to assist with translating. So it would be helpful if you can be available to help, depending upon your fiance's level of English.

When Zhenya finished filling out the information, and paying the fee, there was a list of dates presented as options for the interview, and he chose one. Then he called and scheduled the medical for the day before.

Did you already receive the e-mail from the embassy in Moscow? =)

    ~ Samantha :)

    Samantha,

Actually we haven't received an email at all. I don't even know how they would know her email as I do t ever remember providing it to them in any prior paperwork.

:)how long after nvc shipped to Moscow did you get the email?)

when I checked the visa status on caes.com site with the nvc case number it says "ready" and we are given a link and able to access the immigration site to where we can start the application and pay the fee). (I think I still need the "invoice number" from nvc. Will call in a few hours).

Maya will be fine filling out the app). Her English is sometimes even better than mine since she is an English teacher near Moscow. :).

  6. Just got this update and I'm thrilled but a tad confused...

"Your case is in transit to the Consular Section. Your interview date was provided to you by the National Visa Center" This is only a generic message that doesn't apply to K1s right? This only means that it was shipped? I was reading that we pay for the visa interview and then with the receipt number we then schedule ourselves, so they didn't schedule an interview without us knowing? And is there a way to track the shipment?

  7. WOWWW everything is moving so fast. nvc recieved my my case yesterday and assigned me my case number and today they already transeffered it consulate in my country. jus in 1 day. now status is IN TRANSIT on ceac website.

    K1 Visa Event Date Service Center : California Service Center Transferred? No Consulate : New Delhi, India I-129F Sent : 2013-12-23 I-129F NOA1 : 2014-01-02 I-129F RFE(s) : 2014 02 03 RFE Reply(s) : 2014 02 24 I-129F NOA2 : 2014-02-27 NVC Received : 2014-03-11NVC Left : 2014-03-12

So once you get the case number you can check to see if it's in transit?? It's giving me an error message on that site... Just wondering

  8. Don't know about Russia, but I just sent documents to Ukraine a few weeks ago via Fedex - no problems at all tracking it and it only took 3 days from my door to her door. What may seem to make USPS suck, is that the package/document is handed over to the local carrier after it crosses the border into the foreign country & then all bets are off, whereas with private carriers, it stays with the private carrier (or their contractor) the entire trip.

As of January 26 they suspended all deliveries to Russia from civilian to civilian. I called this morning and they said they loosened the customs procedure so that "only documents" could be sent. So that's a relief. And you're right about USPS, I used them before: No Bueno. It has uses for unimportant things like gifts and things like that but I wouldn't dream of sending something important or expensive that way. I have had things arrive fine, I've had things get lost and I've had things take 4 months when it should have been 2 weeks.

  9. Take all your docs whether hard-copy or electronic format to Kinko and print to a PDF file, and email it to her. She can print it on her end. Or, you can download a trial copy of Adobe Acrobat for 30-days and do it yourself. PDF documents are the best way to maintain formatting and keep a small file size.

I typed the responses and printed the files using acrobat. Its those pesky "original" signatures that have me concerned...
