  1. You may find this link helpful:

    http://binil.wordpress.com/2007/09/17/the-curse-of-the-fnu/

However, since April 2013,the arrival departure record(I-94)is available online. So now you don't fill up 1-94 form at POE.Your name as in I-94 woild be same as in your visa.I did checked at the passport kendra,if annotation is possible. They refused at that time. The name on your greencard,SSN and Dl is the one as it appears on your visa since you apply I 485,with the name as it reflects on visa.Check out this link:

    http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/mobile//nonimmigrant_visas/frequently-asked-questions.html

Check out at the passport kendra which issued your passport,if it is possible to get annotation done.Or once you arrive here check at your nearest Indian consulate,if that is possible and then apply for greencard or SSN.

We never realised that this FNU error is going to create such a huge problem for us later. Omg i am preety sure that the passport was filled with the right details, first name and last name mentioned separately when i applied.Because of their error, we have to suffer so much. The only option left from here to do is get an observation made from the passport office to split my names but then it looks like they have stopped doing it now and i have to apply for new passport to correct the name. God knows how long its going to take to get a new passport and even if its done, how do i get the visa stamp on it? And i thought everything is over now that i got the visa but seems like its not over yet. :crying: . i am glad atleast my hubby will be by my side when we have to do all this running around.

Anyways, thank you so much for sharing that site. At least i can get some information from that though some info might be outdated.

  2. Hello!!!

I haven't received much response to my previous post on the same topic under General Immigration thread. Hence thought let me try here.I am hoping to receive a better response. Looks like my issue is common with some of the ppl applying from India. Hopefully, someone who has undergone similar issue and got it fixed will be kind enough to share their experiences. Planning to get things clarified at the POE however what worries me is how my name will reflect in SSN, Greencard and DL later on and how to get it corrected.

My passport has given name as Elsy Chen. Surname is Blank.

My visa has given name as FNU & surname Elsy Chen.

I read somewhere that we can get a name Bifurcation or split the name into two on my passport, at the Indian consulate in US by adding a small observation in the passport indicating the same.Has anyone managed to do it successfully OR do we have to get a new passport issued & is there a costs involved? Many thanks.

    Regards

    Elsy

  3. I can do the biometrics in Chennai I suppose? How long did the bio-metrics take?

Yes you can do it from Chennai. Make sure to choose OFC location as Chennai. It hardly took like 10-15 minutes as its only finger printing and photo. Take the following docs along:

    Your original passport

    DS260 confirmation page.

The OFC appointment letter print it from their site.

    US passport photos

    Interview letter

  4. When my wife went to get her PCC, they requested she update the passport in order to say she's married on the PCC. When they got the certified copy from the court, they told her this is not good enough and they need the original! So my wife just applied for the PCC with her original passport, which lists her as single. Will the PCC list her as single? Will this cause problems? Please help.

I was not married when i got my passport so it says single. PCC says single,so I requested them to change it to Married however they clearly told that they cant do it. PCC will be provided according to your marital status on passport. I never had any issues because of this. Got approved.

  5. Hi,

OFC is not letting me schedule in chennai. Everytime I select my Visa CR1 i get a message saying

The post has been changed due to the visa class you chose.

Please let me know if anyone has seen this?

As per your timeline, your consulate is CHENNAI however Chennai doesnt provide Immigration services. If you are residing in south india then select Mumbai. Also check your case no, if it starts with BMB, then its Mumbai.

  6. Question to those interviewing in any consulate in India, and even for those outside of India. Does anyone have a list of potential interview questions, or know where i can such a list?

And the second question is how many of you have had to show call logs with your spouse or proof of phone conversations in general. did it have your official service provider name and phone number od was it just a filtered excel sheet with call history with just your spouse? i have an excel sheet with data i exported from my service provider so i am just trying to get an idea of what i should do.

    thank you for helping.

Try to gather as much evidences as possible and prepare for your interview well. Be confident.

Go to the subforum for India and click on other VJ member's Timeline that way you can get some questions specific to your embassy as well.

Hi.When i went for interview,i didnt have any phone call records with me as my service provide doesnt provide incoming call record details. However I took screenshots of last 6 months of skype calls and 6 months of emails exchanged along with post cards and other evidences. However the best part is CO didnt ask for a single piece of evidence to show apart from the wedding pictures. You can check my timeline to know what questions were asked. Also if you go to India forum you might get more information there. Goodluck.

  8. I was tuck up in similar situation as yours. This was my post, hope the replies gives you the answer to your query:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/447994-need-help-urgently/

I got my interview rescheduled though, and got my passports corrected, since managing things here with kids in school would have been tough.Find out from where to get your passports corrected once you are here.Other option could be,(though I am unaware if it is possible)you can get your passport corrected and get the visa restamped on it.It takes 10 to 14 days for reissue of passports in such cases. You can email the embassy and ask them if that is possible.Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

I think i'll go with the first option.Dont want to apply for new passport now, from here and visa restamped because i think thats going to take a really long time another separation for god knows how long and we both are not ready for that. Hopefully things will work out fine when i reach there. Meanwhile appreciate your inputs.

Anyone else has gone through similar issues please share your experiences. Thank you.

  9. Got my passport with the visa stamp however just wanted to know if there will be any problem with how my name is mentioned on the visa stamp.

What exactly is 'Given name' as it looks like it means different things.

I dont have any middle name.

My passport has my complete name ELSY CHEN (first name and surname)as a Given Name however Surname BLANK.

Visa Stamp has FNU mentioned as my Given Name and Surname as ELSY CHEN.

    1. For Domestic flights I never faced any problems. But while booking my international flight ticket now, can i still continue to book under my name as first name Elsy and surname Chen?

    2. I checked the SSN required box so does this mean that when i land in US. I will receive my SSN automatically and will my name on SSN reflect the same as on VISA stamp? If so then how do i correct it?

Has anyone on VJ gone through similar situations.Kindly provide your inputs.Thank you so much.

  10. Hi Elsy & Mark: I think my wife is going to be picking up the passport today (Monday). You can pay the $165 immigrant fee after POE. But ideally, you should pay it before POE. That way your GC will be produced immediately. Otherwise, they won't print it until you have paid the fees.

I just couldnt wait. Went to the VFS office here and collected my passport along with the sealed evelope. Finally can breathe a sigh of relief.

  11. Hello,

I have my interview at 18th June. I have following doubts

    (1) Do they ask for photocopy of AOS? We have already submitted original AOS then why photocopy

    (2) Do they ask for any documents of my wife (US Citizen)?

    (3) Which original documents they ask for? (Original Marriage certificate, Birth Certificate, photographs, PCC already submitted to NVC)

    1. My husband submitted the original AOS to NVC & didnt had the photocopy of it with me for interview but it was still ok as they didnt ask for it.

    2. No.

    3. None if you have already submitted it to NVC. I submitted only the copies of MC, BC and PCC.

  12. Paid the $165 USCIS Immigrant Fee right now. First you need to create an account at USCIS ELIS. Also, found out that when you enter the A# you need add a 0 at the front.

The A# printed on the sheet which they gave her had only 8 digits - xxx xx xxx

You need to type A0xxx xx xxx

I paid using my checking a/c. But found out one could use credit card too, to pay this fee.

Hi bkghosh. Have you got the passport already? Mine says ready for pick up as per ustraveldocs site. Do i need to wait for message from blue dart office to collect it ?

Also the immigrant fee of $165 can we pay this once we land there?

  13. Had my interview today. By Gods grace & help from VJ members, got A. P. P. R. O. V. E. D. Thanks everyone. :)

Thanks everyone for congratulating me. I feel like I am still dreaming. Only once i get the passport back with the visa stamp inside I think then I can just sit and relax. Have been checking the CEAC site constantly for progress. It showed as Administrative processing till yesterday and today it got changed to ISSUED. Visa printed. Hopefully will get my passport shortly. Cant wait to see how it looks like with my name on it. Got the best gift for my first year wedding anniversary which was a day before my interview.

June interview thread has been locked i believe so had to use this thread just incase if someone is wondering why i am here. :)

PS. somebody requested to share the interview experience, so check my timeline.its been updated. Goodluck to everyone.

  14. Hi
I received only one original copy of the Police Certificate which I have already sent it to NVC. I have called NVC last night to double check if I can just take the photocopy of Police certificate to the interview but the operator said that the case is closed from their end and shes not able to confirm if they have the original copy or not. And then she said that i will need to bring in original at the Interview?. I am so confused now.
Can anyone tell me if with just the photocopy of the Police certificate were you successful in attending the interview?
Or do i really need to get another original copy of Police certificate for interview?
Getting another orginal copy would be a such a hassle. Its difficult being a foreigner here and trying to communicate with them. And of course i'll have to bribe them again. Make more than one trip there. If i had known before i would not have submitted my original Police certificate to NVC. :bonk:

    Update:

Rang embassy regarding the above question and they said that if i have submitted originals at the NVC then i can take the photocopy of the original PCC for the interview. To be on safer side, went back and applied for another original NVC which i'll be getting on monday.

  15. Hello Everyone,

I am from Bangalore and I have my visa interview in Mumbai, and I have a question.

When they take your passport to stamp do they ask for the address to mail your passport back, or is there a place where you can collect it from?

Mailing back passport through India post would be kind of difficult to track I so i was wondering if there was a place to pick the passport from.

Is the address taken from the DS260?

    Regards

    Cds

I am from Bangalore too.Instructions given by bkghosh is correct.
When you are trying to fix the appointment for your fingerprinting and photos through http://www.ustraveld...m/in/index.html you need to provide your passport pick up location, I have given the add as :
Prestige Atrium 2nd Floor Unit No. 304
    No 1 Central Street
    Bangalore, 560001
Just to be on the safer side. I dont receive mails on time at my current place.
  16. hey guys, I see this on the traveldocs site:

Note: Applicants without both the medical report AND police clearance certificate will not be allowed entry into U.S. Embassy New Delhi or U.S. Consulate Mumbai. If you do not have your Indian police clearance certificate in time, you need to reschedule your appointment for a later date. If there is a problem with your medical report, the Panel Physician will give you separate instructions.

what if you submitted your PCC to the NVC? do they really check for the indian PCC before letting you into the embassy?

Looks like you have also sent the original copy of your PCC to NVC. Did you get two original copies? If so then you are ok.Otherwise, you might have to do some running around.

  17. On the US Consulate website it says:

Please direct all visa inquiries to: support-india@ustraveldocs.com

I am not sure how prompt they are in responding to emails, though. If you call here are the phone numbers:

Within India, please call 91-120-4844644 or 91-40-4625-8222

Here is another # I see listed there: Tel: (+91-22) 2672-4000

From the United States, please call 1-703-520-2239

    Call Center hours:

    Monday through Friday – 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    Sunday – 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Yes the address which you have given is the correct email add.

I sent an email yesterday and got a response today. They are prompt in responding to your mail but they are useless. I asked them if i'll be allowed to attend the interview with a photocopy of the Police clearence certificate as the original was provided to NVC already and they respond with :

Without the Indian police clearance certificate, you will not be allowed entry into U.S. Embassy New Delhi or U.S. Consulate Mumbai on your interview date. If you do not have your police clearance certificate in time, you will need to reschedule your appointment for a later date.
Further, we would request you kindly carry all the relevant documents for your Consulate Appointment.
We hope this answers your queries.
    Have a pleasant day!
-Do they hire only dumb people or what? :ranting:
I'll try calling them tomorrow if i dont get a satisfying answer then i'll have to get another original copy of the Police certificate. Dont want to take a chance.
