  1. Thank you guys! smile.png

I got the visa and passport today; 28th Feb journey date! :D

Congrats and thanks for sharing your experience. Did they ask you original of PCC? I got only one original from passport office which I have already submitted to NVC. So I only have copies of PCC

If you have already submitted original PCC to NVC, then you dont need another one at the time of interview since they would have mailed it to Embassy already along with your other original submitted civil documents.

Just keep a photocopy of it incase they ask for verification.

  2. Class : F2A - Children of LPR below 21 (minor)

I had my biometrics appointment at VAC on 16th of Feb, 2014; 4:30pm. The centre is about 1km from the actual US Embassy in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

I reached there by 4 and saw a long queue outside. Guards there sorted people by the appointment timings. Around 4:15 I was allowed inside the gates in a line. They were checking our passports, DS260 confirmation page and VAC appointment confirmation. After entering, security checking is done. Rules are same as those in embassy regarding items allowed. Make sure you don't carry mobile phone, pen drives, cd, etc inside.
They will then stick two bar codes behind your passport and give you token number. Then people have to wait in sitting area till their number is displayed along with window number where your fingerprints and picture will be taken. They will also stamp on your Ds260 confirmation page( which will be required again on interview day). The whole thing just took about 20-25 mins for me.

I had my interview on 18th feb, 7:30am. People were already gathered around when we reached there around 7am. Soon the staff made two lines depending on interview timings. They asked us to keep our interview letter (p4) ready so they can check before letting us in. We were allowed in right on time, followed by routine security checking.
After checking we entered a long waiting hall. We were first given token numbers before we sat down. Screen displayed token numbers and the window number we have to report to. First call, I had to submit PCC and sealed medical report. They gave me back my originals which I had sent to NVC months back. I was told to sit again until further announcement. Second call, I had to give fingerprints again and sat down.
The third time was when I saw a American lady sitting across the window.

I read out the oath and the interview began. She didn't really ask much questions. Just my age name and whether am married or not. Then she asked for family photographs which I had plenty. She smiled and said I look cute in baby pics, lol; and right away she said your visa has been granted. She handed me the green card fee details and my alien number.

Waiting currently for my passport and sealed brown packet; which generally arrives within 7 days.

I hope my experience makes your visa process and embassy visit a bit simple and easy. Do let me know if you have any query regarding anything. I will try my best to respond.

Thanks VJ community for helping me from start till end. You guys rock! biggrin.png

  3. Hey, am not from Surat, but i recently got my PCC from Rajkot PSK; so basically its bound to be same because both the PSK fall under the Ahmedabad Passport Office.

The process Mr. Dipak originally posted has changed now, since there are Passport Seva Kendra which handle everything. You no longer have to visit commissioner's office cause PSK forwards your application to them. The commissioner's office then forwards it to your local police station; wherein you either have to visit them with 2 witnesses( the ones you mentioned while filling the application for pcc on http://www.passportindia.gov.in ) or a police will come to your mentioned address. They write a letter, take yours and witnesses signature, and when completed it is forwarded back to comissioner and back to PSK.

Psk then texts/e-mail you that your PCC is ready and you have to visit PSK again ( usually after 10-15days from your first visit to psk).

You have to carry your passport and an acknowledgment letter that they give you on your first visit.

They will give you 2 same original PCC Papers ( wherein there is your picture, and a note that there is no pending case bla bla and free to travel to US); also they will stamp in your passport that on this day your were issued PCC for USA.

EDIT : PCC is valid for 6 months from the day it was issued.

Here is the process posted by another indian member and it matches with mine too! smile.png

Hope I didnt confuse you tongue.png and was helpful! biggrin.png

Procedure for applying PCC - (My personal experience)

    • Log into site http://www.passportindia.gov.in
    • Register through the Passport Seva Portal. (Click on "Register" link under the Online Application Filling section on the Home Page).
    • Login to the Passport Seva Portal with the User ID created as above
    • Click "Apply for Police Clearance Certificate" link.
    • Fill in the required details in the form and submit.
    • Choose Alternative 1
    • After filling in all the details, VALIDATE & SAVE it on your DESKTOP (its easier to upload later on)
    • Go to Alternative 1 again & select "Click here to upload the form" & upload the file you have saved on your desktop
    • Then go to Applicant Home page. Select "View Saved/Submitted Applications"
    • Select the saved application & take a printout of Application Receipt

Now with this printout you just have to walk into your nearest Passport office or Passport Seva Kendra during 9am to 11am ONLY. Take the token number & just follow the instructions. I was amazed to see the smooth process without any confusion at the Passport Seva Kendra. My nearest point was Hubli, Karnataka.

Documents you need to carry is just a photocopy of your passport with your signature & your original Passport. The fee is Rs. 500 & has to be paid at the passport office only. Just walk in with this preparation, rest they will take care of. I had taken a copy of my NOA2 letter, but they didn't even bother to see that. I hope it helps.

  4. No, there are no joint sponsors. You are household members who are adding your income to the sponsor (petitioner) so that he will have enough income.

A joint sponsor would be someone who uses only their own income (plus any of their household members'), not pooled with the petitioner's.

Ohhh!! Its clear now. Looks like i filled the i864 wrong, since i ticked 'Joint Sponser' under the principle sponsor's name, instead of the option "I am the principle petitioner".

    Thanks for the explanation :)

So what you guys suggest, should i wait for RFE since i already submitted the form ( they got it today) or should I just submit a new corrected form with a letter of explanation right away ?

  5. Hey everyone,

My dad is the Petitioner for my 'F2A' file. We will soon be submitting the civil documents; which includes- My photographs, My Birth Certificate and a Photocopy of my Passport. ( PCC will be submitted at the time of interview so not included here)

My question is do we need to submit any other document? Like do the petitioner needs to submit his documents also ?

Thanks in advance. Much appreciated as always :)

  6. Well you filled out the I-864 wrong. You will almost never check "no" on Part 3 #1 (formerly item 8) on the I-864. That can only happen in cases when there are two joint sponsors (which is extremely rare). There are NO joint sponsors in your case; in your case, the only sponsor is the petitioner. The petitioner must sponsor all the immigrants.

Well my petitioner doesn't meet the income requirement. So wouldnt it be a case of joint sponsor where 2 other household member will add their income to it ?

Appreciate your effort; but am really confused now unsure.png

  7. Awesome guide! Finally i feel like i am in the right place :)

I am confused by which method to get PCC. My visa file(F2A) will soon be completed at NVC and passed to Bombay Centre; and i would be required to show PCC there. So can I choose anyone method(PSK or Commissioner's Office) mentioned in the main post? Or is there a specific method for my case? Do both the ways end up at the same document required for Immigration to US ?

Thanks a lot in advance, and keep up the great work! Much appreciated!! :D

  8. Heres what i-864a instructions say about Part 2 of the form :

    • If the sponsor you are promising to make your income available to is not sponsoring the intending immigrant ( this should be true only in cases with two joint sponsors, with "no" checked on item 8 of the sponsor's form i-864), then do not list the intending immigrant on line "a" of item 13 on this form. Instead, list on lines "a" through "f" any spouse and any children that appear on lines 9a through 9e of the sponsor's Form i-864. •

So we have checked No and its applicable for our case, and hence we dont have to list the names of inteding immigrant on i-864a.

So the blank about indicate number confuses me whether to write 1 (cause its only me) or 0 ( cause we didnt list anyone)

  9. Hey everyone,

I am having a problem filling a line in i-864a form. My dad is the main sponsor; and my brother-in-law and mom being the household members as joint sponsors.

In Part 2 'Sponsor's promise' we have to mention the names of immigrants, but i read in instructions that if its a case of joint sponsor then you dont have to mention anything in the list. But the confusion i have is, above that list, theres a blank (indicate number); thats the number who are immigrating. So do i have to mention 1 (because its just me as applicant) or do we have to mention 0 since we arent going to fill the names below.

Thanks a lot in advance, much appreciated smile.png
