  1. Hi

    I have 2 questions:

    1. I did a bachelors degree in history and politics. I am looking into something that we have in the UK university system called a "conversion course". These are qualifications that are unrelated to your bachelors degree but give you a masters level qualification in a completely unrelated academic area. I am looking to begin a conversion course in IT.

As far as I know, nothing like this exists in the USA, however I'm wondering if I would be elgible to work in the USA if someone offered me a position under a H1B visa, if I had this kind of qualification. Would a 'conversion' course (that is classed as a 'Msc') give me eligibility to work in the USA on a H1B visa in an IT role, despite having a non-IT related bachelors?

    2. If I did this course and then applied for an internship in the USA, could I do the internship with that company and it count towards a 1 year stint within the company that is necessary for an L1 intra-company transfer?

In simple terms, is it possible to do this conversion course, do a 12 month internship with a US company, and then 'internally transfer' to a US office position seeing as I would have gained the 1 year minimum experience with the company that is necessary for the L1?

Would the company instead might want to give me a H1B? If so (relating to question 1) is that even possible?

I'd really appreciate some detailed and clear answers/advice guys. Thanks.

  2. I am reading on wikipedia about the differences between OPT and come across this:

    "

    • Relation to program of study: The employment under OPT is restricted to employment that is related to the program of study. On the other hand, employment under H-1B need not be related to any particular program of study"

I thought that, to get a H1B visa, you need to prove that you are degree educated and your specific 4 year degree education has to be directly related towards your job position? True or not true? Because wikipedia is claiming that this is not true.

  3. Hi, just joined this forum. This is my first post.

Can someone explain to me in plain English how I could get a h1B visa the way that is being explained in the last few posts.

What is a 'bodyshop'? How do companies get the USCIS to agree to a H1B visa if the applicant does not have a degree in computing?

Like Harsh77 just wrote, it seems as though if I did some classes during my degree that involved computing, it 'counts' towards being eligible for a H1B visa in an area (computing) that was not the main point of study for my degree. How do I get this to happen.

A few of you mentioned 'relevant work experience' but as far as I know, without the degree in the actual subject that you're applying for a job for, you need 10 or more years of experience in the relevant field. As far as I know, you can't "give them cuple weeks training and put them out for the job".

Please can someone explain all of this to me in detail?
