  1. Its actually $19,387 for a household size of 2. For a K-1 visa case most embassies require 125%, not 100%, of poverty guidelines.

For a household size of 4, your friend will need to make $29,437.

Thanks guys! Still no actual bites yet. Those who want to help or either looking for a job, or going through fincanial issues not based on them not having a good enough job. Those who believe in prayer, please pray. This waiting is like the hardest thing to do.

  2. No using household members with an I-134 for a K-1. There is no combining of incomes with the I-134. That is only for an I-864. You need a co-sponsor that meets the requirement on their own for their household size plus the foreign fiance(e).

So you're saying that if my friend who wants to help gets a job, she'll have to make enough to be above the 125% poverty line for her family of three, and for my fiance. So how much money (a year) would that be exactly?

  3. hi

did your friend file taxes? it's not only having a job, but also paying taxes

I'm guessing she will file for taxes based on what she earned last year. Also have you heard anything about the fiance needing to live with the co-sponsor? Someone I know who has helped people with other immigration issues mentioned that, but I don't know if she just heard wrong. Any idea?

  4. Hey- I've been asking around about how much I need to make to be approved to sponsor my fiance before he applies for a job. All the answers I get are to study instructions and to look at a poverty chart thing which really only confuses me more.

    Some informtion about me:

    - I am the only one who works in my household. My grandfather has investments (he won't be a co-sponsor), but would those factor into my household income?

    - I make almost 9 dollars an hour at my work, and I work anywhere from 14 hours a week to 35.

    - There are 4 people total in my household

    - I haven't worked a full calander year yet, so I don't have a good idea of yearly income.

Please don't post the whole poverty line chart unless you can explain it to me please. I'm really wanting to figure out if I can actually sponsor mu fiance by myself. I am not having success finding a sponsor at the moment, so I'd love some clearer answers.I'm looking to file the paperwork in January. Thanks!

  5. Study the instructions on the I-864. To get the visa you will need the I-134 which is slightly different but the idea is the same. I-864 has better directions. The poverty line guideline quoted is from 2009, so be careful.

You can also have a co-sponsor if you do not qualify. That can be a friend or family.

yes, I know I can have a co-sponsor but I live with a grandparent who has investments, and I'm the only one actually working in my household of 4 people total. My fiance won't live with me before we're married (we're against living together until we're married). Is the government going to just consider my income, or also factor in my grandparent's?

Looking for a co-sponsor now. This is hard stuff. I may know more though once I get my W2's back from work so I can see what a year's wages looks like for me. :(

  6. Hello! My first advice to you is file as soon as you can. My fiance and I filed our I-129f in late august. We thought we would have everything would be done in 10 months....but he has just gotten approved today. Visa time varies, so it could take 6 months or over a year. It's best to be prepared, because the US never does anything on the time you'd like it to be.

Also, send your evidence of a relationship (photos, chat logs, etc etc) along with affidavits from yourself, your fiance, and 1-2 other people of proof of relationship. Also put in affidavits from yourself and your fiance of your intent to marry within 90 days of him entering under the k1 visa. I find this best to send with the i129f so that they don't have to request more evidence (which adds more time).

    MAKE 3 copies of EVERYTHING!!!

They actually lost my fiance's paperwork when he went for his interview this morning, but luckily he had a copy of his original to hand in. It's best to be organized and keep a binder of everything.

As for the support, you need to make above the poverty line.

Port of entry is the place he will go through customs.

I Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any questions

I live with my grandfather who has stocks, social security and some assets, but doesn't currently work- do they consider him as a part of my "household", or just consider my income?. If they consider his income as well that would change everything. If they don't, I work anywhere from 16-35 hours a week. I earn under 9 dollars an hour right now (I get a raise every 3 months though). Any more insight on this?

  7. Well you have no timeline info so your fiancé could be interviewing in Manila, Juarez, or Paris which have different protocol. Or you may not even doing the K1 process or have a fiancé. . My answer was for a person interviewing For a K1 in London.

Make a timeline and profile to get a good answer.

Sorry. I haven't filed yet, so I don't have a timeline (doesn't make snsene to have one yet). My fiance is from Australia, and I'm from the US. He would likely have his interview either in Sydney, or Melbourne. Just relalized this this is a regional discussion. Sorry.

  8. If your interview is in London, yes they will. But check it is also enough for the I-864 which has stricter requirements.

I'm in America, so I don't know how they handle things.

  9. Hey- I was wondering the same thing for the US. I have decent emergency savings but I work part time, and so my decent pay (I'm a cashier). My fiance has savings, much more than me. Do they consider HIS finances too?

  10. Hey all. I'm a newbie here. Engaged to an Aussie, and I'd love to hear the expeinces others have had with the VISA process in OZ, so I can be prepared. We plan on marrying in May 2015, and I'll be applying hopefully in January 2014. In your experince was that enough time?

Also have a few smaller questions. I currently have a part time job and was wondering how much I need to make to be accepted as his affliant of support (or whatever the term is). Do I need to make a certain amount per year? Per hour?

Also I am wondernig what my fiance has to write down as his "point of entry", as he is going to be with me in Ohio, but will likely enter the US in LA or San franscisco.

I'll leave more of my questions until I get a reply.

  11. I've also wondered about timing for a wedding. So some brief intro on me. I'm engaged to a Australian man (I'm a girl- I don't know why my profile thing won't display my gender), and we want to get married in May 2015. We're waiting that long because my fiance wants to finish his bachelor's degree. I plan on filing the peition to the US government in Janurary 2014. I've heard processing takes anywhere from 4-6 months, and then they send the information to Australia, so they can look at it- which can take another 4-6 months, then my fiance will do his medical exam and interview. I know once approved offically he has 6 months to get to America, and then just 3 months to marry me. I'm having a really hard time planning when we don't have a date set. sad.png Any advice or help?
