  1. Ok, thank you. So, if the joint sponsor just shares the same principal address (my sister lives at my parents' address still) as I do but does not claim me/I don't claim her, then she would file the normal I-864?

edit: she files as single (independently)

From my personal experience, this is INCORRECT. I was recently checklisted for my AOS having sent in an I-864 for myself, while my father (whom I am currently live with) sent in an I-864 for himself + and I-864A for my mother (they file Jointly). When I called in to get help to complete the checklist, I was informed that since I am currently living with them, I can include them in my "Household" and both will fill out I-864As and my declared household income will reflect mine + my parents. It seems ridiculous to me that they would checklist this, but I suppose I understand it. (See I-864A definitions of household member here: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864ainstr.pdf, see relative bullet point)

I completed the checklist, and am now on about day 10 of waiting for a response. Hopefully will come soon, as my wife just returned to Argentina after a 1 month visit, and the next ticket we plan to buy will be her 1-way. When I receive a reply, I will update this thread, hopefully to confirm that this is correct information. I will also add this info to the WIKI (please remind me as much).

  2. I am currently filing a petition for an IR-1 for my foerign wife so that we can move to the US this year. We have been living in Argentina for the last 4 years (3 years as a married couple), and I am getting on a plane to start the move in exactly 2 weeks. My wife however, is still in the process of getting her Immigrant Visa approved, and was recently moved into NVC processing (our I-130 was approved on the 11th of Feb).

Looking at the forum and the various threads, the amouont of time that it takes to go from I-130 Approved to Interview Date is around 4 months (obviously depending on the availability of interviews at the Embassy in Buenos Aires). Using this calculation she will hopefully be getting invited to an interview in the beginning of June. We were hoping too fly her into the states to visit for 3 weeks to a month in April so that she can celebrate Easter with my family, and also attend my sisters baby shower.

The question for all of you forum members is the following then:

Should we expect additional enquiries at the Airport when she arrives in April (will it pop-up on their computer that she is currently in immigrant visa proceeding)? What documents should she bring to prove the short-term nature of her trip (we are thinking, invitation to sisters baby shower, signed document from employer that she is currently working and is taking a vacation)? Is there any chance that the NVC process will be quick then expected, and she will need to be back in Argentina for the interview earlier?

Appreciate any help or advice you might have to offer. Apologize to the administrators if this should be in a different sub-forum.

  3. We have been approved!

    NOA1: August 12, 2013

    Transfer Email 1: Feb 3, 2014

    Transfer Email 2: Feb 5, 2014

    Transfer Email 3: Feb 6th, 2014

    NOA2: February 12, 2014

All dates are when I received the email/text from USCIS. As we live abroad, mailed hard copies tend to get lost :)

Here's hoping to a quick NVS Processing, as I am picking up my bags and moving back to the US of A in early March - and I hope my wife & I wont have more than a month away from eachother.

Best of luck to all the rest. Feel kind of guilty we have been approved before other people who filed before us.
