  1. Hi everyone,

I am applying for citizenship independently from my spouse (five years in US) and we filed for divorce in December and we are still waiting for it to go through (a six month wait in California). Since we are not divorced yet I assume I put that I am still married on the application and by the time I am called to the interview I can show the examiner the documentation of the finalized divorce? (This would be better since my ex says she received no written evidence that we applied for it and the day she submitted the application).

    Thanks for your help!

  2. Hi everyone,

I am about to apply for citizenship and currently filling out the application. In the past 5 years, I have spent two periods of 4 months where I was visiting my country of origin in Europe and visiting my parents. I assume it is not necessary to list my time in these places as addresses I lived at since I was visiting and still kept my mailing address and residency in the US during this time?

    Thank you!

  3. Hi everyone,

I am finalizing my application for US citizenship and am also considering applying for Medicaid support in Colorado as I am eligible. I saw that the Trump Administration brought in some new rules in February about applying for citizenship and seeking support from the government. I'm wondering if my applying for Medicaid will in any way effect my citizenship application? If it does, I don't want to apply for Medicaid at this time.

    Thank you!

  4. Hi everyone, I lost my wallet a couple of weeks ago and my 10 year PR card was in it. I went on the government website to apply for a replacement but they are asking for the information about my lose card, which I do not have since I lost it and did not make a photocopy of the card. I there a government number I can call to get the information about my lose card so I can apply online for a new one?

    Many thanks,

  5. Hi everyone,

My wallet was lost a couple of weeks ago and unfortunately my US PR card was in it. I have a 10 yr residency card and am one year away from applying for citizenship. I don't want to overstay my time outside the US to delay the process (more than 6 months of the year) but my mother has a heart condition and I would like to return to my country of origin to be with her for between 6 months to a year. As I recently lost my PR card I will need to get it reinstated so I'm wondering how I go about these two things? Can someone tell me how to apply to leave the country for this period of time without effecting my status and if I will need my PR to do this? (I have a state drivers license and my Irish passport).

Thanks for any help with this!

  6. Hi everyone, I filled my application for removal of conditions in July 2017. When I put my receipt number in on the government website to check the status of my application, it says my application was received in the local office in March 2018. Does anyone have an idea when this application will be processed? I received a letter in May 2018 saying my application was received and that I did not need to repeat the bio-metrics exam. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

  7. Hi there,

I have a few questions about my application.

Firstly, I am currently waiting for my change of status decision to come through and I applied for this in July 2017. I've heard I can go ahead and apply for naturalization and it will force them to make a decision on my first application?

    2. What evidence do I need to prove that I've lived in the same district for the past 3 months before applying? I assume a couple of house bills with my name on it and some bank statements showing I used ATMs in the area should be okay?

    3. I was aboard and apart from my wife for about 5 months of the last year and 5 months of the previous year, we stayed in touch mainly on skype. I can provide skype records, is this going to be an issue with the application?

    4. If I'd like to leave the country for a few months after completing the biometrics exam, I assume this will be fine to do?

Thank you so much for your help!

  8. Hi there,

I now have my conditions of residency removed and am a full US resident. I am expecting to want to spend a lot of the next few years in Asia so am wondering on the minimum requirements to maintain my US residency? I fully intend to continue to have the US my permanent home but expect to spend a lot of the next few years abroad working on a book. I see its possible to apply for a 2 yr reentry visa and I'm wonder how this would effect my residency and if it would be likely that I would get approved for a second one 6 months later after I'd return?

    Thanks for you help.

  9. Hi everyone, I got married one year ago to someone from the US and have the marriage green card. I am wondering when exactly I need to remove the conditions on this and the quickest way to citizenship? In a couple of months, I want to go and travel Asia for 6-9 months and so I need to know how long I can be absent from the US and still proceed with the removal of conditions and apply for citizenship.

    Thank you!

    Derek

  10. Hi Derek :)

Please see the red marks I made for some of my comments and suggestions :)

Thank you so much for your helpful comments sweet01!

A couple of questions about this:

    1. If we get signed affidavits, can they just be signed by the person and not in front of a judge etc? Are there any sample ones on the website or online that we could use?

    2. We live in California, would you know of somewhere we could organise a dental plan today to call?

Thank you so much for your help!

  11. Hi everyone, we have our interview coming up this Monday and I'm a little concerned that we don't have enough information to bring with us so wanted to run it by you guys to see what you think. (We read the other post on this forum about what to bring)

    A few questions about it:

    1. We live at my wife's Mums house so we don't have any of the bills in our name etc. We have a joint bank account (just recently set up) and a joint gym membership. I also have some post that was addressed to me at the house and hope this will be enough.

    2. Should we get signed affidavits of our friends and her family? I'd prefer not to have to go to the hassle of doing this but we can if necessary.

    3. Should my wife put me on her will a few days before the interview? Is there any advantage to this?

    4. Is it okay to say the truth at the interview, that we got married at the courthouse soon after the engagement as my visitor visas was running out?

Thanks for any help with these issues,

    Derek

  12. Thanks Aaron. So just to be clear, I would run into no legal issues later if I overstayed about a month? I am concerned that there would be a record that I broke the law and at a future time I would need to tick a box at the border such as "Did you ever overstay etc?". If you are clear there are no issues with this and once I get a green card the overstay would not be on my record for border patrole to see etc then I will go ahead and overstay since I don't want to get this vaccination and it would also give me more time to prepare the paperwork. Thanks, Derek
