  1. Hi,

I am renewing my greencard and have a biometrics appointment next week.  The ACS office is 3 hours from here, which is no problem, except that they are calling for more snow.  I don't think they would close the ACS office because of it, but I would have to drive through the "snow belt" and that could get very nasty.  I don't want to reschedule my appointment but what would happen if the day of my appointment I really can't make it?  Thanks

  2. You are a US taxpayer, so it applies to you. If you earn investment income like interest or dividends, the earnings each year should be reported on your US taxes. It is not the whole balance, but anything you earned worldwide during the tax year. I haven"t read the specific tax treaty with Canada, but most say report the income to the country where you reside. So it is not income reported to Canada, but rather to the US. Schedule B is where you typically list that.

The FinCen or FBAR document is a reporting of foreign accounts, as in the balance in the account(s). It is not a tax form filed with the return. It is a report to the US Treasury due at the end of June each year. Google "IRS FBAR " and you will like find the IRS.gov hit near the top of the list.

Not knowing your exact details or anything about treaties with Canada, this reply may or may not be your case but is meant to give you general info to examine to see what applies to you.

Thank you very much for your answer, Nich-Nick. The amount that is on the NR4 is put on the return. I had no idea of any of the other forms that needed to be filled out. Evidently, the accountant didn't know either. :( I will read up on it further. Thanks again.

  3. Hi

I'm a Canadian citizen living in the US since 2006 (permanent resident since 2008). I have Canadian investments and when I moved, I left them there. Every year, I have received an NR4 and this year a T5008. I was doing some research today and saw on a website, that I should have filled out Schedule B on the 1040 (questions 7 & 8). Also, something about FinCEN form 114 (FBAR) and form 3520. This wasn’t a government website so I don’t know if it’s true. Is this something that should have been done all these years? Or is this only for US Citizens? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  4. Hi there,

I was just wondering if there is a Canadian site like visa journey. My friends daughter wants to move to Canada and I thought that a site like this one would be able to help her.

Also, I received my congratulations letter May 12th and still haven't received my green card. How long does it usually take to receive it?

    Thanks!

    Hi Dusy,

A similar site for immigration to Canada is http://www.roadtocanada.com/

It normally only takes a week to 10 days, however there is currently a delay in green card production: Permanent Resident Card Production Delays

    TrailMix,

Thanks for your fast answer. I knew I could count on someone here :) I will be sure to get that site to her right away.

I still have a few weeks before my 60 days is up, so hopefully, I will get my green card before then. Thanks again.

Dusy, If it has been 8 months and you still haven't received a biometrics appointment you may wish to make an Infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and find out what is going on in person. They may be able to do the biometrics at that appointment or to give you an appointment time. You can make an appointment by going to the USCIS website at http://www.uscis.gov then in the right hand column select 'Schedule an Appointment'. Then, follow the instructions provided.

8 months does seem like it is too long so you do need to find out what is happening. Good luck.

Just thought that I would let you know that, finally, I received my biometrics letter after 9 months of waiting. Can you believe that? I was going to call again at the beginning of this week, and was going to make an infopass appointment to see what was going on, but didn't have to :) No Infopass for me. woohooo. I didn't want to drive 2.5 hours and miss work to be told to wait for it. I was really hoping it hadn't been lost in the mail either. I sure didn't want to be told that I missed my appointment. So, good news. Go to my biometrics appointment and wait....again! Oh well.....

  7. Hi,

After almost 8 months after my NOA, I still have not received a biometrics appointment letter. Has this happened to anyone else out there? Supposedly, my case has been transferred from VSC to CSC even without my biometrics. I'm just curious to see if this has happened to someone else. Thanks!

Sorry, I posted in the wrong forum.

  8. Follow the leads to change address{I think punch 3}. They'll ask if you want to change your address and tell them no and why you called. Used to work a couple months ago. Don't know if it still does.

The sad thing is most the info you get from them is incorrect. If you bug the operator enough they'll refer you to a IO that "may" know" a bit more.

I called this morning and when it came to the part where they tell you to press 1 if you have your number, 2 if you don't know what the receipt number is, and 3 if you lost your number, do option 3 (you lost your number). You will get a rep. After trying everything else, that is what worked. Good Luck!

  9. Hi all,

Well, I just called VCS because I still haven't received a biometrics appointment letter after 7 months (almost 8) of waiting. I received my NOA at the beginning of August 08. I finally got through to them and the girl transfered me to a higher up person. After all that, I was told that my case had just been transferred to the California Service Center. Why?? I don't get it. I am just hoping the transfer is a good thing. It usually is a good thing. She also told me that it could take 12 months to be approved. Is that an additional 12 months?? Like the first 12 months isn't long enough. So what now? I guess I just wait, right?? :(

VSC has an average approval time of about 320 days (almost a year) - CSC currently is averaging around 134. Am surprised you didn't get a NOA for being transferred - unless it just recently happened. Are you tracking your case on the USCIS site?

I can't track it. It's not even in the USCIS system. Even when I called, it wasn't there. I had to talk with a rep so I had to use the #3 option which is "if you have lost your receipt number", just so I could talk with someone. The higher up did say it was just transferred, but why after almost 8 months, you know?? I will just have to wait.

  11. Since you received your NOA1 you could call the 800 number and see if the file number on that notice will help them find your case. Unfortunately, until the biometrics letter comes, there is no computer access. I suspect that the help line will probably try that number as if you didn't know how to use the internet, so expect them to tell you it is not on the system. They need to have an internal method for tracking this number that is not accessible to us. So be sure to tell them that this case file number is the one from the NOA1. Actually read to them the exact title on the form and don't call it an NOA1.

Perhaps your biometrics letter was misplaced or just not sent.

Well, I tried calling the 800 number. My receipt number is not in their system. Do you think I could get a representative?? NO!! It's only automated. Has anyone actually spoken with someone there?? There is no number to choose to speak with someone. This is very frustrating. All I need to know is how long it usually takes to get the darn thing.

  12. Hello,

I was just wondering when exactly I should be expecting the letter for my biometrics appointment. I have checked some of the timelines and they seem to have received it not too long after receiving their NOA. Should I be concerned, or just wait it out?? And how long should I wait?? Thanks! ps as you can see by my timeline, I received my NOA on August 11.

  13. Hello,

I don't know if this is the right forum to put this in, but here goes. I'm not sure what's up with my SSN. I have applied for store credit cards and put my information on a credit application for car financing. We can get the car without my name on there but we got a call yesterday saying that my SSN is not found. I was denied a store card and the reason was also something to the effect that my SSN was not found or that there is no record of it. Why is that? I did notice that it says "valid for work only" I have sent my I-751 and have received my extention letter. Will I ever be able to get some kind of credit here?? or will my SSN change once I'm approved for removal of conditions. This really irks me because my credit was perfect in Canada and I can get nothing here. Ok, enough venting. Anyone that has an answer for me, please feel free... Thanks!

  14. I sent mine priority (or whatever you call the 2-3 day delivery thing) with delivery confirmation

I didnt include a photocopy of my ssn card, i dont think it's necessary (if they want my ssn they have it on the form and on the tax transcripts)

Goodluck and make sure you check out the new filing instructions! :star:

Thanks jeeleebee :) New filing instructions? Big differences??

Yeah, only Vermont and California process I-751's now, but last time I checked, USCIS put an article on that, but did not update the instructions, but either Texas or Nebraska forward these that causes more delay.

With the I-751, spent the 15 bucks for overnight, still took close to 14 months, but said the heck with it for the N-400, didn't feel like driving over to the post office, weighed it and plastered on stamps, no rush, but my wife had her interview 3 months and 17 days later. Do they intentionally delay applications sent overnight? Beats the hell out of me, but you gotta have those green cards to work and drive, no really big rush for USC.

Hey, thanks Nick!! I'm filing with the Vermont Service Center so I should be good. I just want to mail this package off this morning so I'm glad to know that was the only difference. :) I'm thinking I will just do it priority with delivery confirmation. After that, it's in their hands, so the waiting game begins. Have a nice day to all!!

  16. Hello,

I'm ready to send off my I-751 and was wondering if you guys just sent it regular mail or priority. I know you need a delivery receipt so I will do that. Also, I noticed on some of the other posts that a photocopy of your SSN card was sent. Is that necessary, or is it just another piece of evidence? That is something I don't have in my package. Thanks!!
