  1. So I have my AOS interview coming up next week on the 16th. I kind of completely forgot about it. I've just been busy with actually living here and also we're moving to a new apartment soon that it didn't really seem like something I paid much attention to :P

So other than the things they request for in the interview letter (which is basically a copy of the stuff we already sent in). Is there anything extra I should bring? I plan to bring some papers showing some utilities in my name, the lease of our new place with my signature on it and an employment letter from my employer.

I've no idea what to expect from this interview. But honestly I'm not worried about anything, actually kind of excited to go around and see things in Boston after our interview date as well. Kind of using this as an excuse to explore Boston :P

  2. Got a mall with an USPS tracking number, says I should get my EAD tomorrow! :D

So, as for the AOS which I completely forgot existed. I sent what they asked for in their RFE a while ago. I decided to check on that case and it says they received the additional documents and

"We will mail you a decision or notify you if we need something from you. You should receive a decision or case update by June 21, 2015,"

Is that in any way accurate? That would mean I'd have an answer within 4 months of filing for AOS. I'm thinking that's just a standard date they put on there from when they recevived my RFE documents. I won't get my hopes up and actually expect them to get back to me by then, but if they do that would be incredible.

Also, congratulations Angel! You deserve it after that long wait! :)

  3. Finally got my EAD approval. I decided to check the website today (On a Sunday no less) and it said approved. My wife yelled at me to stop screaming at her and tell her what's going on.

So quick question again for those who got their EAD. How long did you wait for the card? Can I go in for an interview without the card? Could I even pottentially start working without it?

Thanks in advance! You guys are great

  4. Quick question regarding the filing for AOS and form I-693. It says the following:

    1. Ks: If you were admitted to the United States as a fiance(e) (K-1), child of a fiance(e) (K-2), Spouse of a U.S. citizen (K-3), or child of K-3 (K-4), and received a medical examination prior to admission, then you do not require another medical examination as long as your application for adjustment of status (Form I-485) is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. You will, however, be required to submit a vaccination supplement with our adjustment of status application. The vaccination supplement must be completed by a designated civil surgeon.

Is the vaccination supplement they require included in the medical package that I got in the mail that I'm mailing along with my AOS package? Or am I going to have to see a local civil surgeon in the U,S?

  5. I know in MA I am able to get a MassID. I quickly googled NJ for you and got this.

You need "6 points" to qualify for it, the PDF shows what you can bringand how many "points" it's worth. Quickly looking over it I saw that your foreign passport + the I-94 and your NOA2 are both 4 points each. It'll cost you 25 dollars but at least you'll have a valid photo ID to use from now on :D

  6. Hang in there ! Try to do something during the day. I picked up a book and start studying, days went fast. Well we applied for the AOS in june got my EAD on September..and still waiting for green card :/ But other than that life is going great :D

Yeah. It's not like I'm miserable, it's just somewhat boring. I started the deck of cards push-up challenge out of boredom daily alongside my other work out routine. It kills some time.

I've also been studying/getting familiar with the text books for my driver's license theory exam.

The one thing that is having a toll on me is the weather. Being from The Netherlands we're used to cold and rain and snow and we get the hotness sometimes too. But here in Massachusetts...well, they get it as well.

All of them in an hour, lol. My body is so confused, one minute it's warm and the other it's snowing.

  7. So you're here now, welcome! How is it going so far? :D

Thanks! It's great, still a weird feeling though. I still get that sense of "we have to do this and that before I leave again!" then realize I'm not leaving this time.

Got my SSN which was really easy, the lady had no idea what she was doing so I was kind of telling her what to do, that was funny in a weird way :P

Getting married Dec 8th and then on to do the AOS. I really hope that something happens and I get my work permit sooner than the estimates show. As happy as I am being here, sitting at home alone till 5 PM every day is driving me crazy :(

  8. I've landed in the U.S this past Saturday. Everything went well, the flights were good even though it seemed like forever that I was stuck in the planes.
The first officer was very easy going. Took my paperwork and stamped my visa and I was on my way.
I was randomly selected by a customs officer and he asked to go through my stuff. When I told him I was on a K1 Visa after he asked me why I was there, he brought me to the front and went through my luggage quickly. Otherwise I would've waited in line to go through customs, it was very nice of him to do that.

He poked fun at me packing my PS3 in my luggage, noting that I have my priorities straight. We had a laugh at that and he said I was good to go. I went through the doors and it was finally over. The last time she had to come pick me up from the airport and the last time for a long time that I have to go back to that airport.

We started this in the summer of 2008, and now, 6 years later. There's no more thousands of miles between us.
Thank you everyone on this website, without VJ, this wouldn't have been as easy as it was. I will be for ever grateful.

  9. My husband needs to order his VOG but I'm unclear on when we should do it.

My NOA2 just got mailed to me yesterday. I figure it's going to be 6 weeks before I get a case number.

Should we wait until the file is shipped to NVC, received at NVC, case number is assigned or some other point? It expires after a few months doesn't it?

You get a case numbers days after you get your NOA2. And it will be shipped to the consulate soon after. From the moment you get your NOA2 to the interview date is roughly 5 to 6 weeks. Mine was about exactly 2 months from the day we got our NOA2 to my interview date.

He can request his VoG now and have it ready, I had mine months prior to my interview date.

  10. You can e-mail or call them and explain the situation about some documents. Usually they'll ask you to bring those with you on the interview day.

As for your documents, for the I-134 you need to bring the form and as much evidence to show that they can financially support you. I brought to my interview a letter from the sponsor's employer stating their position and salary and that they are hired in good standing. This needs to be on company paper (as in the company logo on the paper) and has to be signed by your sponsor's employer. I also brought the W-2 and Paystubs along with a few months worth of bank statements showing deposits/withdrawals and current balance.

You also need to bring a new letter of intent from your spouse. It should be the same as the one she/he sent with the I-129F but this one will have a much closer date to the interview date. Along with recent chat logs/phone call logs/emails etc.
This depends on each consulate but during my interview they didn't ask to look at any of that. They didn't even ask for a new letter of intent that I brought. But each case is different and it depends on the person conducting the interview as well.

Germany is not a high fraud country so if you have the basics along with some chatlogs of the past couple of months/weeks. You should be fine. Just make sure to get a signed letter from your sponsor's employer, that's one thing that they always make sure is in order.

  11. I hope I have everything in order.

    • Appointment letter, payment for it, and original letter from consulate
    • Passport photo
    • Original files (I-129F package)
    • Birth cert (copy from register)
    • Passport (incl old with stamps)

    Am I missing something?

A new letter of intent to marry you from your future spouse and the affidavit of support with supporting documents?

  12. So another quick question, before I go and spend 60 euros when I don't really have to.

For the social security number, the instructions say that I need 2 pieces of ID. But everyone says that they only needed their passport and an I-94 (not sure about the number?) that you get online since recently.

So should I get an ID kaart as well or will my passport + that paper be enough to apply for a SSN?

  13. I was approved yesterday at my interview, happiness :D

Couple of questions for those that were also approved. How long did the CAEC website stay in the additional processing stage?
And how long did it take before you got your passport back? I see that AlissaCarly got his/her on a Saturday after he/she was approved Tuesday so after 4 days. Is this about the same for everyone else?

  14. Congrats! I hope I didnt forget anything. On my way to the medical now. Going with the train to Amsterdam Zuid and then tram 5. No clue where the tram are but ill find them haha.

Also for the interview, do I need my original birth certificate? Someone posted a review stating they needed theirs. I just have the english copy from my birth city...

If it's an original document then they will accept it. I wasn't born here, I was born in Israel/Palestinian territory under less than ideal conditions. So I don't have an original birth certificate and it's impossible for me to get one.

What I gave them was a registration of birth information that my parents established in a court room in Den Haag. They accepted that so I'm sure they'll accept your actual birth certificate.

As long as it isn't an actual "copy" copy. As in like put in a copy machine and copied on a different paper. If you got yours through requesting it from your city's gemeente loket or through DigiD then you'll be fine :D

  15. I know I don't post here much, but i've been following everyone's progress. I'm happy to report I was APPROVED this morning in Montreal. So happy!! :)

Thanks everyone for the help and for keeping me sane.

    Congratulations!

I also had my Visa approved this afternoon in Amsterdam :D

I wrote my review for the embassy in the review section, I'll paste it here for the fellow Dutchie along with some other notes.

The appointment was at 1:30 PM. But that's not when your actual interview is. You get there and in front of the building there's a tent for shelter. You stand under it and wait till a person comes out around 1:30 and starts calling names.

Here is why my experience was awesome and the 4 other people who were also there for their K1 interview was (probably) horrible.

First: RTFM (Read the freaking manual). Or in this case your interview instructions. 2 of the 4 other people there had their cellphones with them. If you have ANY electronics with you they will not let you in until they process everyone else without electronics first. Including non immigration appointments. Immigration appointments are called on first, unless you have an electronic device. Then anyone regardless of what kind of appointment goes before you. The instructions and website of the consulate general/embassy both state not to bring electronic devices, so this is completely avoidable if you've read your interview letter.

The other 2 had no electronic device so they were let in along with me almost instantly. But they both had not read the instructions properly. One of the two hadn't booked their medical prior to the interview thinking it said to take it AFTER. And didn't have the I-134 form filled out and all the financial prove she had were her own bank accounts/job information etc.

The other person could not speak proper English nor Dutch and brought a translator, but not a certified one.

I feel really, really bad for these folks because they came in really excited and they were sitting there looking defeated once they realized they were more than likely not getting approved right then and there. It made me feel even worse when I was approved, since you're sitting in a room where you get called to a window. They/you can hear everyone's interview being held.

Long story short: I was in there for 30 minutes total, 15 of those were the interview, 15 of those were waiting and getting my stuff checked by security.

Have all your documents, follow the instructions and you'll be in and out before you know it. Approved and all.

P.S When I walked out of the embassy the people with electronic devices were still outside waiting to be let in. They also had a line of roughly 15 people before them who were being let in 1 by 1. So yeah, I suggest that you get a locker in Amsterdam Central station and put your phone there or bring someone with you to stand outside with your belongings. I went with the 2nd option.

The electronic device rule is universal for all U.S embassies and general consulates. So regardless in which country you have your interview, do NOT bring your electronic device unless you want to wait for a long time.

  16. Yes. Kind of annoying. Btw I forgot to ask what do I have to bring again? Passport photos, vacc book and money right? Of course passport but cannot leave the house without it lol.

Good luck this week also! Let me know how it went :-)

Yes, that's all you need. I brought the letter that had the instructions and interview date in it as well. Just keep in mind that the passport photos have to be U.S size. Which is 2 inches by 2 inches or 51MM by 51MM. So regular passport photos you get made at most Dutch photo shops won't be accepted. You need 4 in total, 2 for the medical and 2 for the interview.

  17. I just realized, it will be up to 4 months before you are able to work. This sucks. I have a job interview in an hour (via Skype) and probably have to tell them I won't be able to work for another 4 months or (this includes all the waiting time and processing times).

Yeah, one thing that really bothers me about the U.S is their timelines for paperwork and official business. We're used here in the Netherlands to be told 1 to 2 weeks and usually get it exactly in that time frame.

In the U.S you get told 1 week to 6 months on various things and most of the time it's on the later end of the estimation. It's something we'll have to get used to, I guess. :(

  18. Which one are you missing? Most of them you can get at your own doctor. CZ covers all shots up to 100% (DTP).

What does the medical mean anyway? Just some blood work, xray and check on your vaccs?

I think I'm missing the DTP. I'll look into it if I can get it from my own doctor before I fly over, that would be nice.

And since you're going to the same doctor I assume you'll go through it the same way I did.

You'll have to fill out some forms, one of which you bring to the xray place. Then the doctor calls you in, takes your blood and you have to answer a bunch of medical questions. Most are pretty basic (have you had cancer? chickenpox? an STD?). Then you take off your shirt, he will measure your blood pressure and listen to your heart and lungs.

You pay the lady (145 euros + any vaccinations) and you're sent off to the xray place. Which is about a 10-15 minute almost straight walk. I barely spent any time there, I walked in and I was the only one there. You go in, take your shirt off and stand infront of the xray machine for 5 seconds and you're done. You pay the 50 euros fee and you can go back home.

You can only pay in cash, I just brought 300 euros and deposited the left over money back when I was done just to make sure I'd have enough for everything.
