  2. Hello VJ community,

I finally received an email today about the status of my wifes i864 form! however they told me I needed to correct a question on the form about my salary and taxes :o That is no problem, but I have a question about some personal information. Since I sent my i864 the last time, my address and work status have changed. (im moving back to the united states from japan, so I have finished my job and moved to live with my wife for a few weeks before heading back to america) The email I received did not ask to change anything except the question about my salary for the most current year, so i didnt know if i should leave the other personal information alone and send it as is, or take it upon myself to update the information even though it wasnt requested?

I have already informed the NVC about my address change via phone, I was just wondering about what to do with the i864 form this time when i fill out the current work and address sections. Maybe correct it and put a note in the cover letter?

Any information would be great, thanks!! I just want to correct this thing and send it in! Im tired of waiting!! :clock:

  3. Dear VJ community,

Hello, my wife is currently filling out the DS260 while we wait for our AOS to clear (its taking a while but trying to stay positive!) and ran across a question that was a little confusing.

On the "Family Information: Spouse" section, There are two questions.

--Is your spouse immigrating to the US with you?

--Is your spouse immigrating to the US at a later date to join you?

    (Page 19 of the ds-260 exemplar : http://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/DS-260%20Exemplar.pdf )

My question is: I am currently living in Japan for work, but will head back to America in late August. I am an american citizen (my wife, Japanese) is filling out the form, and she will probably be returning to america after I do, until the visa is completed. I will be returning to the US in August, which is before my wife, not after. So I am not sure whether she should answer yes to the second question or not. Or, because Im an american citizen, and just returning home, no immigrating, are both of these questions "no?"

Any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much!!

  4. Hello everyone,

after a long wait, I just received an RFE for my wife's application. We sent in our ko-intodoke "certificate of acceptance" with a translation, but they have said that this was insufficient, and that we need to "submit marriage certificate" as well. It goes on to say, "In order for your marriage to be valid in japan, a koseki shohon is issued upon marriage according to the united states department of state."

So I'm assuming we need to send in a copy of my wifes koseki shohon this time with a translation. My question is to anyone who has had to do this; does the translation need to be certified by an embassy, or can this be done by myself?

I'm sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, I looked through the forums and found may items on koseki tohons but not really any on shohons. I dont want to make any mistakes sending this as that would require us to begin again.

Thank you for your help! anything is appreciated!

  5. Hello, I hope this question isnt a repeat or an obvious question unsure.png

I am currently living in Japan and filed my i-130 a few months ago. Im currently patiently waiting to hear back from them with some good news of acceptance, but I thought, why not be proactive and see whats the next step after the i-130. I have a general idea about what forms to fill.

    1) I-485,application to register permanent residence or adjust status

    2) I-864, Affidavit of support (Based on my financial situation i feel i will need this form as well)

In addition to the above forms, are there any other forms that are necessary? Of course there is the medical form for my spouse, interview, etc, but in terms of documentation I just want to double check.

Again, I hope this form doesn't reask any questions, however if it does please just point me in the right direction. Any information, links, etc would be greatly helpful, I really appreciate it! smile.png

**If anyone knows of some good checklists or something like that in regards to the process after the I-130, it would be a life saver! Thank you so much agian!

  6. Hello everyone, Im new to this site but I was hoping for some help with a question I have.

Just recently, I got married in Japan to my (now wife) after years of long distance, and I happy to say that we have decided to move back to America together! (hence the I-130 application ^_^) Sorry for my happy rant. Anyway, I realized through my searches online, this site, etc, that you have to be financially stable enough to support your partner, or you will need to be sponsored so they do not become a "tax burden". This form is the I-864a, or the "Contract between sponsor and household member." Based on my savings, salary, etc, I dont think i will be able to sponsor my wife. My parents came to the rescue and said that this was no problem. Mom and dads are the best huh?? dancin5hr.gif

my question though is this; when do you file the I-864a? do you send this document in with your i-130 packet, or is this at a later date? And if so, when do you hand it in? I just dont want to waste time making a silly mistake so I was hoping someone could help me out with this situation. Any comment is appreciated!

    thank you so much!
