  1. I am using Straight Talk Mobile. Unlimited Calling & Text + 5GB of 4GLTE data for $45 per month. Prepaid and no contract.

Straight Talk runs on T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon networks. The network you choose will depend on what phone you are using and coverage in you area. I find AT&T has the best network coverage and speeds for me. You can pick up a starter kit from Walmart for around $60 with SIM cards for all networks and SIM sizes. The kit includes one month of service.

I have found the customer service surprisingly good and it is very easy to top up using a credit card or a voucher from Walmart.

Also for an extra 15 dollars per month you get a plan with unlimited international calling. So you can call back home.

  2. Hey Congratulations and all the best from here onwards!! (is the delay for interview really that long... I thought only a couple of weeks, but haven't checked recently)

    Hello fellow Kiwi,

Last time I checked the stats on vj for our consulate it was 40 or so days from the consulate recieving the package from NVC to interview. However, due to the small amount of applications through our consulate, their maybe a few outliers that push the average up.

Where are you checking the stats for the consulate? On vj or somewhere else.

  3. Sweet!!!! There is light at the end of the tunnel and it's not an oncoming train!!! Did you and your fiancée submit a letter of intent to marry? That's what I'm reading with a lot of RFE's. Let me know when you get the interview date and all. I'm stoked for you and your fiancée. Good times are upon you. I hope your fiancée is able to come at the very latest before New Years so you can share that moment. The first of many in this lifetime!!!

    Thanks for your congrats.

Yes, we both included two letters of intent to marry. One from the petitioner and one from the beneficiary.

I don't think I'll be there for New Years as it take another month for NVC to get it, process it and send it to my consulate in Auckland, New Zealand. Then my consulate has an average of 40 days. So we are talking early or mid feb. :-(

Or have I misinterpreted the visajourney stats?

  4. Dear Josh

    thanks for everything

until now I'm not able to check my case on the USCIS website, but when I tried to check the cases next to me (before and after) I found that all of them got something either approvals or RFEs in the couple last days, my fiancee (as usual) called the TSC to inquire about our case and the answer was (it's good not to receive RFE) she asked the tier 2 we are not able to check our case she said it's technical problem (the same answer every time).

we're confused now all the people around us got something the last couple of days, is it possible that we were left behind?

    it's really confusing and frustrating

I'm a day in front of you. Haven't heard anything from tsc.

  5. Yes that is correct. but depends greatly on "how far" or how many applications you have in front of you. thousands of applications are after src1490295095 . that doesn't mean they will be getting a noa2.

if your src is RIGHT AFTER (within 100) then you should expect it soon.

right now wait times are 5.5 months. expect that or more based on your NOA1

Thanks Josh for your superb work on this. I am about 50 or so numbers away from the last approved number. Any day now....

Do you mind explaining to me, either here or in a pm, how you data mined the uscis website? Just really impressed and curious.

  6. Hi all,

Longtime lurker, first time poster on this topic.

NOA1 date 17/06/2014 here. We haven't received anything from the uscis saying our alien registration has changed. Our last update on uscis website is our noa1 date. Is this a cause for concern? How were you guys informed of an alien registration number change?

The length of time the tsc is taking is despicable. My fiancée and I are living our life in limbo land due to the delays. I am sure a lot of you can relate with this. It is good that we are seeing a few approvals coming in.

My consulate processes k1s in around 40ish days, do you think entry in March is now not realistic?

  7. Hi VJers,

I am recently engaged to my american girlfriend of 5 years! We live together here in New Zealand. We wish to set up a life together in the US following a 5-6 months of travelling in 2014.

I am asking for a recommendation on whether to get married and file for CR-1 or file for a K1. My number one priority is to minimize the time from filing to work. I am in a dilemma currently, as the CR-1 visa total average processing time is closing in on approx. 400 days from NOA1 to Interview. I plan to file and travel around Europe and Asia while it is processing with her from June to November. My ideal situation would be for the CR1 it to be at the interview stage when I return to NZ in November 2014, so I dont have to muck around with EAD,AP, and AOS when I enter into the US. I see that it takes around 120 days to process an AOS. I hate the idea of sitting on my ### and not working for that long. I would rather volunteer my time for free. However, I dont like the prospect of being apart from my SO for a long period of time. With me in NZ and her in the US.

What do you guys think I should do in my situation? Are there any large or small factors that I am not considering that you could inform me of?
