  1. I'm a US citizen and am in the process of sponsoring my parents to immigrate to the US. We have filed the electronic visa application form (DS-260) and am in the process of collecting/filing civil documents. My questions are:

    1) Do I need to send original civil documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc) or can I just sent photo copies of them? Or do I need to send both?

    2) Do I need to send original certificate of accurate translation document or a photo copy for each translated document?

    3) Can I send both my father's and mother's documents together in one envelope or do I need to send them separately?

If anyone has experience with these, I'd appreciate any input.

    Thanks all!

  2. Hi all, I'm a US citizen and I'm petitioning my parents to immigrate to US. I'm at a stage where I have to pay the immigration visa application fee. When I had to pay the Affidavit of Support Fee, I only had to pay one fee for both parents and I thought I only had to pay one fee for immigration visa application for both parents. I paid for my father first but my mother's fee is still showing as not paid even though it's been more than 2 weeks. Does anyone know if we're supposed to pay one fee for both parents or two fees separately? Thanks!

  3. Hi all, I'm a US citizen and I'm petitioning my parents' immigration to the US. I'm trying to fill out the DS-260 form for them and one of the questions the forms asks is "Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with US law?

Both my parents are over 65 and they don't have a record of their vaccinations. But they're sure they received all the required vaccinations. Can a letter from their physician attesting they have received all the required vaccinations sufficient as documentation? I'm curious how others have dealt with this question.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  4. Hi all, my wife and I are scheduled to have a green card interview next week. I was just wondering what would be a proper attire for this occasion. For those of you who have already gone through this process, I'd appreciate any feedback. I am thinking of wearing business casual (no suit or tie) but then heard from another source that we should wear as if we are going for a job interview. Would wearing a suite and tie be overdressing? How about for a woman? Thanks!

  5. Hi, my wife and I are scheduled for a GC interview in a few weeks and we're wondering if they allow you to bring photos on our ipad or iphones. We only have a few paper pictures of us and most of the pictures we took are on our smartphones. Do we need to print these out or do they allow us to just show these on our phones or ipad? I'm not sure if different centers have different standards but we'll be doing the interview in the Philadelphia center.

Also, although I'm a US citizen now I'm myself an immigrant so I don't have a birth certificate in the US. Is a family register document showing my family relations from my home country sufficient as a birth certificate document?

    Thanks for all the helps.

  6. Hello all,

I'm a US citizen trying to sponsor my spouse to get a green card. We're both in the US now and my wife entered the US as a student under F-1 visa. Now that we're married, I'm trying to sponsor her. I was about to send I-130 to establish our bona fide marriage status. But then I found out that you can send I-130 and I-485 (adjustment of status) together under certain circumstances. Does anyone know when you would be eligible to do so? I tried to read instructions from the USCIS website but they don't seem to specify.

Thank you for any help and guidance anyone can provide.

  7. Thanks Mark. I'm a naturalized citizen (just recently obtained a citizenship) so I'm not sure how I can apply for an international birth certificate at a local office. Do you know the specific steps in applying for an international birth certificate that would show both my parents' names?

Also, does anyone know if these kind of questions can be asked directly to USCIS? I couldn't tell if they allow such questions to be asked by email or phone. Thanks everyone!

  8. I'm planning to sponsor my parents to bring them to the US and for the mother, they require a birth certificate that contains my name as well as hers. Unfortunately, they only have a birth certificate that contains my name and my father's name on it since he was the one who reported. I also have a family relationship document that proves my mother is indeed my biological mother. Would these two documents suffice the requirement even if the birth certificate specifically doesn't contain her name?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

  9. I'm a US citizen and am trying to sponsor my parents to move to the US.

When I looked at the 1-130 form, they require a birth certificate that has both my parents names and my name on it and marriage certificate of my parents.

These will be in Korean and obviously I'll have to have them translated. My question is: can I be the person who translates these documents as I'm fully bilingual or do I need to ask a third party to translate these documents? And if I need to ask a third party, can it be any commercial translation service?

If anyone knows, I'd really appreciate your response!

    Thanks for reading.
