  1. My wifes younger brother passed away in China over two years ago, leaving a 1 yo child who is now 3. The boy is currently being raised by his birth mother (brothers widow) and grandmother (wifes mother) in China. Since the boy's mom wants to stay in China and remarry, and due to the one child rule (she's not an only child) making finding a new Chinese spouse difficult if not impossible, she is willing to let the boy come be raised by his aunt (my wife) in the US. Complexity is added to the mix due to the grandmother wanting to be with her grandson whereever he lives or goes. The grandmother (a widow herself) can be sponsored here no problem and whether or not she wants to stay is yet to be seen but the question arises, how to bring the young boy whom we are willing to clothe, feed, raise and educate? I'm past the age for an international adoption approval but support my wife in this endeavor. Is adoption in China the best or only option for my wife to bring her nephew to the US or are there other options?

  2. Ya, it is that straightforward -

get into a deferred / secondary inspection office of the CBP,

    ask for the shift supervisor,

and get it sorted, culminating in a NEW I-94.

no queues, no lines, no waiting..

    don't use a phone..

    just go !

We located a deferred inspection site and found the office but only managed to talk to them on the phone, since it appears the office has moved. My friends SO entered the US with a K-1 on NOV 5 2012. The I-94 shows the expiration date as FEB 2 2012.

FEB 2nd is the correct expiration date but it should be 2013 instead of 2012, wouldn't you think?

It's now DEC 19th but they could not find her in their computer according to the I-94 number. They asked us to call back on Friday this week. And a closer look at the I-94 also reveals the inspector at the entry port misspelled her first name.

They never realized the date mistake until they applied for a SS#. They were told by that office that her visa had expired.

Is there a possibility her misspelled first name could be a problem?

  4. Part 6 B, N-400 asks for employee name if spouse works.

The question makes the assumption spouse was/is employed.

What about contract labor, people who get 1099 income - they are not employes and who they are contracted with are not the same as an employers.

Anyone know what Part 6 B means in that regard?

  5. Sometimes the divorce decree contains the date of marriage or a duration...any chance its there and you've missed it?

I have the same problem. The duration or marry date is not on the divorce decree.

The divorce decree shows the date of divorce so I entered the end date on the N-400 but can't remember the actual marry date.

Worse yet, can't remember the county where the marriage license was applied for.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do - is it necessary to include the divorce decree with the filing of N-400 for spouse?

  6. Just curious. If you go to interview in Guangzhou, will you book one-way or round trip of flight regardless of price? Is one-way better because we donot know what's going on with the interview and thus are not sure when to return? Thanks.

Why would you be going to interview?

  7. Everything now seems so close, yet just that little bit too far away!

My Fiancee and I have now filed for our K-1, we put the package together in the first week of January off the back of a fantastic New Years in Las Vegas, and now we know what we plan to do over the coming years of my entry into the United States (Should and When they permit it).

So sat back in New Mexico, being over looked by a baby scorpion sat in the doorway we put our heads together and formed our plan. It's perfect, and straight forward; Get married in front of a Judge; File for my change in status; get driving; get bank accounts set up; start work; back to school (Since the US won't accept my UK degree); Then have the big family wedding/blessing!

However! I have hit a brick wall, I have a week now until I go back to work in the UK, sat here without the love of my life, with not alot to do. I had recently started a second degree with the Open University, but the path I chose involves Exams and another 3 modules once I finish the current one - but since I need to go back to school in the US do I continue with my OU course - It will take me another 18 Months to finish maybe longer!

Silly thing really, but that's my dilemma, I've usually been so strong with things, but being apart tears me apart as I live in a city with no Family and very few trust worthy friends.

We practically leave SKYPE on 24/7 when we are apart, but I'm just wishing this process would move faster - How do you guys do it? To say "keep busy" is easy when you don't know what people are going through - but you guys do know - well at least your foreign partners do.

So a question to the beneficiaries out there... How do you cope?

The time spent away from one another now will seem like nothing later, and, it's good training for the times you may have to be away from one another in the future.

  8. This is getting ridiculous. I don't know what else to do. I've called them, wrote them, contacted my congressman, Nothing. What else can I do. People got their NOA2 before me, whom filed after me. Why is mine taking so long? And my fiance is getting impatient now... I mean who do these people think they are? God? They decide who comes and who don't... I'm just getting very frustrated.!

    What else can I do?

    Please don't get too frustrated.

We have a friend who applied for a visa about the same time as you but no word yet either.

Both he and his fiance are anxious but learning to be patient as well.

Hang in there and you will get through the process.

  9. Going to visit my Grandmother-in-Law in China who is 9zero soon. Question?

What would be a good, meaningful gift (besides a red envelope stuffed full of USD's, although that might not be a bad idea) from America?

    Any suggestions?

  10. It wasn't the I-134 that scared me. It was the I-864 that did, it could be an extremely dangerous document for some. After carefully considering the I-864 and it's potential harm I took a long, long serious look at what I was doing because this was one time it had to be right. Fortunately, going on four years, it was the right move. The I-864 has never come to mind.

  11. Hello,

A good friend is going through the K1 process. He asked me a question I can not answer. Maybe someone on this board can. He can not find his divorce decree(s)from long ago b/c they have been misplaced during moving. Worse, he can't find them at the county deed recorders office where they were filed. What would be the solution to this issue, anyone know?

  12. We get a few stares at the shopping malls here in Texas but I think that's mostly because my wife looks so much younger than me, not b/c of different nationalities. Our huge smiles let them all know we are two of the happiest people on planet earth - so I'm sure that fends off anyone saying much of anything. All, and I do mean all of my friends embraced her like family when she came here, and my son loves her a hell of a lot more than his real mother. If someone has objected to our marriage we sure as heck don't know about it, this includes all our neighbors. Possibly the only objections over nationalities came from my wifes family in China, in the beginning. When we were first getting to know one another via email, phone, etc, etc, my wife didn't bother telling her family her new boyfriend was an American. Then one day when she knew she'd reached the point of no return she had to let the family in on the deal. That's when she took her mother a photo of me. According to my wife, then SO, her moms reaction was a bit indignant especially when she found out her daughter had plans on marrying. Upon seeing the photo she grunted, saying, "Ohhhh, why do you want to marry a foreigner?" I was a little worried upon hearing this but was told to forget it so I did. Now, her whole family including all aunts, uncles, grandmother's and living grandfather's adore me and I hear her mother constantly reminding her to take good, good care of me. That's partly, maybe mostly, b/c I take such good care of my wife - she's very, very happy with her life here in America and we're both extremely grateful there is such a country like this that allows people the kind of freedoms most of us have - no wonder so many have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

My question is how many of you have experienced some form of racism as a result of your interracial or mixed nationality marriage? Personally, when a member of my family found out I intended to marry a Vietnamese woman she asked me "How can you do that after what they did to us". I was shocked to say the least. My response was that

1.) I was relatively certain she had nothing to do with the war since she wasn't even born yet. and

2.) That it was us that probably owed amends since we bombed them to the stone age and then bailed out leaving one hell of a mess behind that continues to kill today. Sounds sort of familiar doesn't it? Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

P.S. I still haven't asked if a white German would be acceptable.

  13. Congratulations .............
