  1. Thank you very much for the response. I do wish that hiring a lawyer is not expensive :(

I did do my research and almost everything says (including the lawyer) if the father is unknown I will have to do diligent search including the putative registry and citation by publication. And and attorney ad litem will be appointed which I will have to pay for.. Total cost according to a lawyer I talked to would be around 5k USD. :(

But the family code (pasted below) clearly says publication is not required in my case. Also, in the Philippine law, since my son is illegitimate, i have the sole parental authority. I was just hoping there is someone who undergone the same process and can share insights.

Sec. 161.002. TERMINATION OF THE RIGHTS OF AN ALLEGED BIOLOGICAL FATHER. (a) Except as otherwise provided by this section, the procedural and substantive standards for termination of parental rights apply to the termination of the rights of an alleged father.
    (b) The rights of an alleged father may be terminated if:
    2) the child is over one year of age at the time the petition for termination of the parent-child relationship or for adoption is filed, he has not registered with the paternity registry under Chapter 160, and after the exercise of due diligence by the petitioner:
    (A) his identity and location are unknown; or
    (B) his identity is known but he cannot be located;
(c-1) The termination of the rights of an alleged father under Subsection (b)(2) or (3) rendered on or after January 1, 2008, does not require personal service of citation or citation by publication on the alleged father, and there is no requirement to identify or locate an alleged father who has not registered with the paternity registry under Chapter 160.
  2. Hi, my husband wants to adopt my 5 year old son. He does not have a father listed on his birth certificate and he was born in the Philippines. Is there anyone here who had the same situation? Did you have to do diligent search and "citation by publication"? Please share some insights. Thank you very much!

  3. Hi! Has anyone here filed a stepchild adoption petition? Please, if you can kindly give advise and insights on how the process is, I would greatly appreciate it. If you could also share some forms, that would be great. I am from Texas and I was hoping my husband and I can do the petition ourselves because lawyers are so expensive. Hoping for some response.. thank you!

  4. Hi everyone! I would like to ask if it's fine to travel back to my country with an expiring passport. I am a Filipino citizen, currently waiting for my Greencard (I have EAD and AP already). I will travel back to the Philippines on March 2nd. My passport will expire on April 26th. I am planning to renew my passport while in the Philippines. Will I have any problems boarding on flights? Anyone here who has the same experience? Thank you in advance to anyone who will share some insights.

  6. Hi, I just recently married a US citizen in the US (under a K1 visa). I have a toddler son (K2) and my husband is planning to adopt him and change his last name. My son does not have a father listed on his birth certificate.

Anyone here who undergone the same process? I would appreciate if you can share some insights.

    Thank you in advance.

  7. Congratulations! We had the same interview date. I keep checking my status. The Status Updated Date keeps changing everyday but it's stuck at READY (You case is open. Please check your status after 2 business days...) After the interview, they didn't tell me if I was approved or not so I am left wondering. :(

Some people's Visa were issued after 3 days. Some take longer. I guess mine is longer cause I have a K2. But I hope I'm approved.

  8. Happy Tuesday! Anyone here who recently attended their CFO seminar? Which office did you go to and what time did you go there?

Can I go to PRISM around 9am (for the 10am session) for the Guidance and Counseling seminar and just get the sticker at CFO Manila in Quirino after?

Also, is the Pre-departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) same as the Guidance and Counseling Seminar or are they different? And do I have to attend both?

Your response will be greatly appreciated.

  9. Thank you for the response. They gave me that pamphlet after the interview. It has info on what to do and who to call in case I become a victim of domestic abuse.
Your timeline says your interview was Feb 3 (same as mine) and your visa is Issued already. That's so fast. Congrats! :) Mine still says "Ready". After my interview, they only told me that we (my K2 and I) can go home. They didn't tell me anything else or asked for other papers. I hope we're approved too.

I just checked the status myself after reading your reply and it says ISSUED, you will receive the visa (passport) within 7-10 working days. Did they give you any other information?

  10. Hi to everyone! I just had my interview yesterday at the USEM. Everything went well. I was feeling good about the entire interview. It was fast and easy although the questions they asked me were not what I expected. After the interview with the American consul, they told me I can go home. But before leaving, I checked with 2go first because the pick up address they have on the appointment website is wrong. I changed from pick up to home delivery.

When I got home.. I started wondering if I was approved or not. No one really told me if I was approved. They just told me I can go home. They did not ask for any other papers or whatever... We're they supposed to tell me I passed or failed? Is there a chance that they will mail me I failed or they need more documents (even if I had everything they asked for at the interview).

I checked my status online and its still "READY". Wasn't it supposed to change to another status after the interview?

Also, is there a separate fee for the 2go delivery? They didn't make me pay anything. And when can I expect a mail from them? Will they text me a tracking number?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  11. Yeah the Instruction letter (more of a formality letter with no real instructions other than go to a website) is from the US embassy. I received mine through Air21 which is a private courier I believe 3 weeks after approval.

St. Lukes just wants a paper that shows your case number, if you don't have your instruction letter yet, you can use the letter from the NVC or a screenshot of your petition status.

Also, if you want to go to St. Lukes at 4 in the morning, it's better to NOT use the online registration. You can just fill out the registration form while waiting for the windows to open. There is a separate line/number for online and not online. When I went there, there were a lot of people with online registration and a few not online so the not online were able to finish the 1st step faster.

  12. Thank you for sharing.. Do they only accommodate 15 people per day? Is that what the "15 slots" mean? What if I go there and all slots are already taken, will they schedule me for the next day or I just have to come back some other day and try again till i get a "slot"?

  13. I think it's a bug on the website.. or depending on what browser you used maybe. I filled out my DS-160 using Google Chrome and I noticed that too. Previous work experience and education is not on the "side bar" (or whatever you call it - the left side of the website listing all the pages/sections). What I did is when I clicked the "back" button, I filled out that section then "saved".. Make sure it is there when you "Review". My "previous work experience and education" disappeared several times when I edited some other sections, so I had to fill out that part again.

  14. Yeah you can.. I think their "online registration" is just a form you fill out and print to be submitted when you go there to get your medical. I don't think it's saved online. The medical will still be "first come first serve" when you get there no matter how early you fill out the online registration.

  15. One more question please... Just want to verify... On the Instruction Letter it says: "It is important that you submit ALL of the following documentation to facilitate the processing of your application."

I don't need to mail any of these forms to the embassy prior to my interview right? I will just bring them with me right? (Except for the DS-156 where my responses will automatically be saved online and I should print copies as well)
