I live in TN, and I had some trouble when trying to get my DL in Memphis last year. I was able to get a CFD with my EAD card but as soon as I got my conditional green card I was able to get the DL, and it won’t expire when the conditional GC expires.

I’ve noticed that people at the DMV at Shelby Dr knew more about these rules than the ones working at Summer Ave. I would go to another DMV, or try to talk to a supervisor.

When I went to SS office they did not ask for my birth certificate. But I needed it to AOS. You don’t need a certified translator, just ask a friend who is fluent in Portuguese and English to make a statement and sign. I did this and did not have any problems.

I hope someone can answer this. I already have my conditional green card and I will be traveling to Brazil next week to see my family there. My GC was approved by CSC, without interview, so I still have the I94. Should I bring the I94 with my passport? Has anyone experienced this same situation while traveling outside US?

And anyone there knows anything about getting dual with Brazil and US? I know what the law says I wanted actual stories.

There’s no problem with dual Brazilian/US citizenship. My husband was a Brazilian citizen then became also US citizen.

I think this approval notice means that they have mailed you your green card. I got mine on 11/29 and received the green card today 12/01. With the green card there’s a paper that say: “Your application has been approved”, so I think this is what they are calling approval notice.

I’ve just received my resident card in the mail today. It feels good not to have to deal with USCIS for some time now.

In my case I got 3 different emails.

First: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident. Second: Card production ordered. Then I got the welcome notice in the mail.

The third email was the Approval notice sent. I’m guessing this means that they have mailed the green card, and so this is the email that tells you that the green card have been sent.

Yes Waiting in Vancouver it finally arrived! I was afraid it would take a lot more time to have this approval, as my maiden name is very common, but fortunately it was not so long.

Just had another touch today… I will be watching that mail box…

Another update for the CSC list.... My AOS have been approved on 11/22/06. This was a wonderful Thanksgiving surprise!

I almost could not believe when I checked my email and saw 6 emails from USCIS.

APPROVED!!!

I was not expecting to find any news... I’ve checked the USCIS website yesterday night and there was nothing new on my AOS case. Today when I opened my mail box I was not even thinking that I could have any email from them… but SURPRISE the approval notice was there from a late email yesterday (the welcome notice email), and a new one today (card production ordered) … it seems that someone is working during the holiday! What a great Thanksgiving surprise!!

Didn’t you get a copy of the vaccination status from the doctor in Brazil? They are supposed to give us a copy of it, and then you take this copy to the civil surgeon in your area. For the chicken pox I told the doctor in Brazil that I had the disease when I was younger and he accepted my word for that, I was not asked to take the test here.

This is a probably a silly question... But what proof of residence do you need to get a driving licence? I have a NOA for my AOS but as this doesn't include a date for "how long I can stay" it's not valid to get a licence in Georgia. What do I need to prove I'm allowed to stay here and therefore hold a driving licence before I get the green card itself?

I had to wait for my EAD to get a driver’s license here in Tennessee. If you have a DL from your country of origin you are allowed to use it in most of the states I think.

I'm sorry to hear that! You send one check for both AOS and EAD? You should have sent separate checks!! It seems to me that this is the problem.
